Silvia was an amazing tour guide who had an excellent knowledge. She spoke clearly, engaged with all members of the tour and ensured we all learnt about the catacombs, crypt and the aqueduct. We loved exploring the catacombs and listening to the guide It was extraordinary to see. The audio tour of the bone crypts was informative and at times gruesome. We loved it.

Kiera's humor added to the enjoyment of the information she delivers and keeps up all through this lengthy tour. Only one problem was that we were left off at a far distant location from the start so took me a long walk to find a taxi.

Easy way to see things that aren't easy to get to

In my opinion this is the easiest way to see the catacombs and the aqueducts, which are not close to the subway stops. The van was a new luxury Mercedes with AC and leather. Our guide, Sylvia, was very good. No complaints about anything.

We were very excited about this tour. Hilaria our tour guide was brilliant! She was so knowledgable. The meeting place was easy to find. A very short walk got us to the bone museum.... a printed guide allowed us to take advantage of the best bits of the museum and then to the bone chapel. Very eerie but quite beautiful and intreguing! We loved it. A very short walk to a fabulous air conditioned bus which took us to the catacombs. What an amazing place....no bones here, but the underground tunnels are amazing and we visited all three levels, the guide here was great too. Back on the bus, and we went to see the Roman Aquaduct....this was a nice addition we did not know we would be visiting. Its history was fascinating and again, Hialria was very knowledgable, the views were amazing. We really enjoyed this tour. Three adults and a 14 year old, and we all learned so much. It is defintely worth the money you pay and a little different to other tours.

I expected more bones

So I will start by saying that I got more out of the experience than I expected. The Capuchin Crypt is surprisingly easy to visit and I could have gone to that and gotten the bones I was expecting to see. It was... Wow. The catacombs had all of the bones removed from them to respect the dead. That's where I expected to see all the bones. But it was still a neat experience. The final part was what really got me. We visited a park with an old aqueduct and not only were the photos magnificent, but we were allowed to climb on it! How's that for feeling a part of history?

Horrifyingly Beautiful

I had no idea what to expect but what a great, unusual, tour. The Capuchin Crypt was horrifyingly beautiful. The catacomb of san Sebastiano was many holes in many walls but gave such insight into ancient methods of burial and beliefs. The Pagan burial tombs towards the end of the tour resembled a scene from Raiders of the Lost Arch compared to the simpler burial plots of the Christians. We concluded with a tour of the aqueducts, who knew you could learn to love an aqueduct. Our guide Andy’s enthusiasm for them was infectious. Also thanks Andy for the tips on where to eat and which gelaterie to visit 10/10.

Save yourself the frustration and avoid this tour

Unfortunately there is no option to give this experience zero stars. This tour was scheduled for the last day of our 2-day, once-in-a-lifetime trip to Rome. Upon arrival at the meeting place we were informed the tour was cancelled due to a marathon race happening in the area that morning. The Walks tour company did not know of this race in advance? Or they did, and they just let us go ahead and book anyway? If they could have at least let us know the day before, or even earlier that morning by phone or email, we could probably have adjusted our tight Rome schedule. Unfortunately this wasted more than a half a day of our extremely short vacation. Of course the tour guide offered to reschedule, but that was not an option due to subsequent tour bookings we didn’t want to forfeit. We have requested a refund, but so far, just silence from the Walks tour agency. This incompetence gives both Walks and Viator a bad name, and we will not be using either of them for future bookings.

This tour is really something unique. The descriptions and pictures do not do it justice. It is really indescribable. The tour itself was super informative and captivating. Our tour guide Chiara (hopefully spelled correctly) was delightful and so knowledgeable. Would 100% recommend her. 10/10 experience. Way more than anticipated, definitely a must.
