What To Expect

Select a morning or afternoon tour on booking. Travel independently to the meeting and starting point in central Rome.

Put on your provided helmet and cycle to the west entrance of the Villa Borghese. Home to leafy avenues, grand buildings, and Roman ruins, as well as a lake and zoological garden, the Villa Borghese was originally a vineyard and the private garden of Cardinal Scipione Borghese, before becoming a public park in 1903.

From the entrance, set out on your bike tour around the park’s attractions and beauty spots. Admire the famous Fountain of the Sea Horses and trace the pine-fringed pathways to the Borghese Gallery, home to one of Europe’s largest art collections. Learn how Cardinal Scipione Borghese used his immense wealth to assemble much of this exceptional collection, including paintings and sculptures by such artists as Caravaggio, Bernini, Titian, Rubens, and Raphael. If you wish, purchase tickets in advance when you book so you can visit the gallery after your bike tour.

Cruise around other landmarks, and stop for a complimentary coffee. Visit Pincian Hill to absorb the sweeping views over Rome, circle the boating lake and pass the Bio Park, the zoological garden first opened in 1908, and home to 222 different species. Purchase tickets when you book if you want to visit the zoo after your cycle tour.

Not a ‘must do’

Having done other bike tours in Rome this wasn’t the best but worth doing if you’ve really covered everything else. The bike venue didn’t have a bathroom so there were no facilities until the coffee break at the end of the tour which involved a 30 minute queue in a cafe in the park. Be warned. The bikes were very basic, you have to back pedal to use the back break which is a bit awkward. There is quite a lot of uphill which some members struggled with more than others, a reasonable level of fitness is required. We visited on a Sunday when the park was very crowded so on the downhill you never get out of first gear.

Backpedal bikes can be quite difficult for the inexperienced, therefore if you had notified us of your difficulties in using them, we would have gladly provided an alternative bike to better suit you, as we have a vast amount of different types. We agree that a bike tour requires a reasonable level of fitness since it is in fact a bike tour but the uphill part could have easily been done on foot if the group was really struggling. We realize there might have been a line at the coffee bar where you took a break but we are sure the time spent resting and the espresso which was on the house has made up for it completely. Thanks once more for your feedback and hope to see you soon in Rome.

I called the tour operator about 10 minutes before the scheduled departure and told him that we might be late because we were having a problem getting a taxi. The operator rudely told me that he would not wait beyond 10:00 (the scheduled departure time). We have taken 3 Viator tour on this trip and without exception they have all started 10 to 25 minutes after the scheduled departure time. How do you think that I will comment about this tour? I reserved and paid for this tour for 4 people. I feel that Viator should refund what I paid for this tour and counsel the tor operator on customer service. I do expect a reply to this comment.

Dear Customer your review is inappropriate. A Tour that departs late is not something to be proud of. A scheduled departure time is to be respected to maintain true professional standards, just like the departure time of a Train or Flight. Once missed the service is lost, which is normal. If this is too difficult to comprehend we understand your frustration. But it is beyond our control if you did not organize yourselves to arrive on time. There were another 10 customers, all who arrived on time, you were the only one who was not able to reach us. We tried in every way to assist you in arriving on time. Our staff is professional and, unlike your review, is proven by our numerous positive feedbacks. We work with passion, and that is why we are sorry to see reviews, such as these ones, that damage our image and slander our work when such claims are totally unfounded.

My wife and I ended up getting a private tour with Stefano and Anna. They were so knowledgeable about roman history. The tour of Villa Borghese was awesome because its a part of Rome that I imagine most visitors do not see. Riding through the park and streets of Rome was truly a unique experience. Highly recommend
