    Customers will be dropped off at Pier 33. Driver will direct customers to the Alcatraz Cruises departure point. This ends the bus transport portion of the tour. Customers will need to make their own way back after they finish the Alcatraz tour.

What To Expect

This tour is likely to sell out! The Alcatraz daily ticket allotment regularly fills up weeks in advance, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Alcatraz admission:
Board the ferry to Alcatraz at Pier 33 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Enjoy the scenic ride across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island, and disembark to start your independent tour of this island prison. Put on your provided headset to listen to the award-winning audio tour, “Doing Time,” and learn about notorious criminals like Al Capone who were incarcerated here. Hear about escape attempts from 'The Rock,' and listen to commentary from former inmates and staff.

Muir Woods and Sausalito:
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge and travel north to Muir Woods National Monument for your exploration of the giant coastal redwood trees. This old-growth forest is home to some of the planet’s oldest and tallest trees, which you can admire in all their glory as you walk along shady paths.

Then head to Sausalito, a picturesque small town just north of the Golden Gate Bridge that sits between the Marin Headlands and San Francisco Bay. You have leisure time here to walk along the waterfront, maybe purchase a snack (own expense) or perhaps shop in the galleries and boutiques.

NOTE: Due to schedule limitations with Muir Woods, there is a chance that this tour will be held on two separate days. You will be informed prior if your Muir Woods visit will be held on a different day from your Alcatraz visit.

  • Alcatraz reservations are first come first serve, all reservations are finalized (5) days prior to your departure date. No refunds or changes allowed after this date.
  • All Alcatraz tickets are given on a will call basis. Upon arriving Alcatraz landing Pier 33, guests will get their tickets from the Guest Services counter (upon customer identification is shown)
  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Stroller accessible
  • You must provide first and last names, along with ages of all passengers to confirm your reservation. If for any reason you do not provide this information within the window of time provided, your Alcatraz tour will be forfeited.
  • Service animals allowed
  • The Alcatraz portion usually takes 2.5 hours to complete, with its audio tour consisting of approximately 45 minutes. You are advised to inquire on your arrival to the island as to what time the next guided tour will begin. There is no restriction on the amount of time you spend on the Island. The ferry boat service departs Alcatraz every 30-60 minutes and you can disembark at your own leisure.

We went to Muir Woods which was stunningly beautiful and majestic. Then stopped off in Sausalito, which is quant, and has amazing views, and delicious food. We could have stayed longer. Then to Alcatraz pier. The driver was informative with just enough wit, charm, information and quiet time to enjoy the views. Even our 3 teenagers enjoyed the day.

Was a good trip that didn't take up all day. Muir Woods was a nice easy hike, even the harder trail. Need to allow more time if you want to do a decent hike. Alcatraz was interesting and a must see, even if a return visit isn't required.

The driver Kenneth made this trip. He was great company and a magnificent tour guide. I could have listened to him all day long. Sausalito was beautiful. Alcatraz was very interesting. Found the time at Muir Woods to be too long and the time in Sausalito too short however great day had.

Great experience. Bus driver was knowledgeable and shared information along our way to destination. Only issue was driver had to be reminded to take Alcatraz passengers all the way to Pier33 and not be dropped off earlier.

Trip to Alcatraz

We enjoyed the Alcatraz tour. Due to health issues and the incline, we were transported up to the actual cell block by a tram. Once there, we did the audio tour. Staff were helpful. The view of San Francisco from Alcatraz was amazing. Would highly recommend

Alcatraz and Muir Woods

Great trip. The woods are stunning. Could do with another 30 mins or so in Sausalito but this is due to the timings of Alcatraz. If you’re not going Alcatraz you’re free to return on the ferry when you want. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

The trip went smoothly and was well done. It was just too rushed. Also we ended up with a 45 min wait to go to Alcatraz which we really could have used in Sausalito.

Muir Park was wonderful. Sausalito 'day trip' was actually only 1 hour. Gave us only time to eat lunch and then back to the bus. The bus driver was excellent

This was a great trip! Our driver was knowledgeable and shared a lot of facts about the area. We stopped and got great views of the bridge. We had about an 1 1/2 hours at Muir Woods which was enough time to hike. An hour in Sausalito was enough time to grab lunch. Go to Venice deli and you can have a great sandwich right on the water. We got back a little after 1 and then were able to pick up our tickets for Alcatraz at 2pm. It was a jam packed day that I’d recommend to anyone!

We loved all three phases of the day trip, so it is hard to say what is better. Muir Woods was a spectacular location, I wish we allotted more time there for a longer hike. Alcatraz was great as expected, and Sausalito also very enjoyable.

We must respect the agreed times in each place so we can visit each destination as planned. At Alcatraz, we usually arrive early because if there are many people in the line, it can take a long time to board the ferries, and tickets cannot be exchanged. If you don't get to board the ferry, you lose your place. We wish our guests could spend more time in Muir Woods but this national park has a limit of 90 minutes so that as many people as possible can enjoy the impressive Coastal Redwood trees.
