What To Expect

Muir Woods National Monument is a must-see destination on any visit to the San Francisco Bay Area. Just a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, the protected nature reserve is home to one of the world’s last remaining coastal redwood forests. 

Choose from a morning or afternoon departure. Stop at a vista point for a fantastic perspective of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz, and wind through the rolling emerald hills of the Marin Headlands to arrive at Muir Woods. Stroll along forest paths surrounded by the giant redwood trees, some of which stretch as high as 250 feet (76 meters) and date back nearly 800 years. 

After Muir Woods, take a short drive to the artistic bayside village of Sausalito. Capture wonderful photos of the San Francisco skyline during a stroll along the waterfront, pop into one of the many art galleries and grab a cappuccino or ice cream at a local café (own expense).

Your tour concludes with drop off at either of the two departure points or choose the option of taking the Sausalito ferry back to San Francisco (Pier 41).

Departing the heart of Union square, the coach makes its way to the Golden Gate Bridge. On your way to the Golden Gate Bridge, travelers will see: Union Square: Theatres, shopping, hotels

Van Ness Avenue (Pass By)

Famous for being used as a firebreak, by the US Army during the 1906 earthquake and fire.

Traveller Tips

Parking at Muir Woods is so limited (and requires a timed permit) that the tour bus is the best way to go.
Parking at Muir is poor so this one combined with the ferry return is a nice half day ending up at Fisherman’s Wharf.
Just be prepared that the road to get there is really curvy, so if you get carsick, be sure to take motion sickness tablets before going.

Great driver, beautiful day! Muir Woods was incredible! Wish we had more time in Sausalito for sure. Everything was on time. I actually happened to run into our driver the next day, and he recognized me and gave me a great recommendation for breakfast/brunch that morning! Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic tour. We booked this relatively last minute on a whim and it ended up being the highlight of our time in San Francisco. Tony our guide/driver was funny, informative and handled some of the tricky roads very well. Everything was very punctual, Tony was waiting at the pick up location at the stated time and we left every stop at the time we were given. Muir woods and Sausalito were both breathtaking wonderful places, and to top it off we got an unexpected stop at a viewing point for the Golden Gate Bridge which we were so pleased with as we had planning on doing that later on in the day. Thanks for a fantastic time!

The Muir Woods was great! The boat ride back to the Fishermans Wharf was great as I was able to get a close-up view of Alcatraz. There was a guy that worked on the bus from PA that was great.

This was an excellent day trip if you’re coming from out of town and don’t have your own transportation and I would absolutely recommend it. The tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. I just wish that we had a bit more time at each location, but this was a good introductory trip so that I know where to explore next time I’m in town!

One of the coolest and most dramatic ways to visit the redwood forest. I really enjoyed the adventure and the ease of the whole thing. Or bus driver was funny and nice, Sausalito was awesome, the ferry right was really nice as well. Felt like 3 trips in one. Def recommend

it was a lovely half day , worth the money , I did find the guide a little hard to understand , but answered any questions and was really nice , the trees where amazing ! i found the town of Sausalito a little dull to my tastes, the ferry trip back was nice good view of the bridge and " The Rock " worth the money !

Enjoyable day. The process went very smooth, my only complaint would be that we did not have enough time to explore at the park. My recommendation would be to book the ferry, that way you can spend a lot more time in Sausalito.

Wonderful Muir Woods Redwoods

Tour was great, with additional stops included. The highlight was the Muir Woods, were we had almost 2hrs for hiking. Then at Sausalito the Tour Guide recommended us a nice mexican restaurant for lunch (Copita) which was great. The only thing that I’d recommend to improve was to clean the Bus interior

Day Trip to Muir Woods and Sausalito (CA)

It was a beautiful day for a hike at Muir Woods. We really appreciated how easy and convenient the entire process was, including not having to worry about driving to Muir Woods and dealing with advanced parking reservations. As for Sausalito, we took advantage of the recommendations that the guide/bus driver provided (Joe), which were great - fish tacos and ice cream! We would definitely recommend this tour to our family and friends. Thank you!

Going past bridge 2 was eye opening! I really enjoyed the different redwoods and Douglas firs. The streams of water were soothing, and I will definitely recommend this trip by bus or ferry to a friend.
