What a great day! Mt. St. Helen might be the star of the show but our guide Tess was definitely the producer and director. She was personable, professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and well organized which made this trip an absolute delight. Her homemade breakfast and lunch made it seem like we were on an outing with an old friend. Starting with a hike to learn about old growth forests, seeing the devastation caused by the eruption, and being able to see how nature has adapted afterward, the trip has a natural sequence to it. Ending with a stop at Mt. St. Helens and Bigfoot Interpretive Center, and hearing Joe’s detailed explanations about the eruption and it’s effects was a perfect way to wrap up a great tour. I highly recommend both this trip and Tess!

The trip to Mount St. Helens was incredible. The stops at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge and the Lewis and Clark State Park were great side stops. The guide provided a lot of interesting information along the way.

Terrific Trip with History and Geology

It was spectacular to see Mount St. Helens and surrounding areas. Until you visit it’s hard to imagine the scale of destruction caused by the May 1980 eruption. The tour, hiking and background history and geology were great. Marty was an excellent guide and the ample food and drinks we ate all day were delicious (especially the cookie)!

Don't miss this great Nature trip!

Just Wow. I was expecting to see barren, black rock but Mt. St. Helen's is a testament to Nature's recovery. Our tour guide, Nate, was awesome! He is a naturalist and went over the whole scenario of what happened leading up to the eruption, which people were expecting but not the actual force, and what happened afterwards. Mt. St. Helens is huge, we were 7 miles away in the observatory and it looked so much closer. In addition to Mt. St Helens the trip also included a trip to a nature preserve and a small hike through an old growth forest. There we saw trees 300-500 years old, it was amazing. Then we had a picnic at Coldwater Lake. Nate was knowledgeable about historic facts as well as the trees and wildflowers - it made a big difference! It was a full day and totally worth it.

Excellent intro to the Pacific Northwest and Mt. St. Helens

Mal was the best of guides, and the trip turned out to be so much more than I had expected. Completely surprised by the breakfast stop in the nature preserve with French press coffee and fresh baked treats. The hike in the old growth forest was an excellent taste of the true Pacific Northwest and an excellent comparIson to the new growth forest surrounding Mt. St. Helens. And once at the Johnston overlook, it was somber, fascinating, majestic, and informative. When lunch was set up, we had tablecloths, cloth napkins, silverware, and pottery plates upon which to enjoy a fresh festival of flavors—Southwestern bean and corn salad, quinoa with edamame, grilled chicken, and savory tofu. It was a long day but a fascinating and most satisfying one. So glad I took this tour!

Excellent tour. We were picked up from our hotel in downtown Seattle, which was very convenient for us. Our guide, Nate, took really good care of us and was very knowledgeable. He led us on a couple of hikes, the best being the one starting from the Johnson Observatory, where we got spectacular views of Mt. St. Helens. We really enjoyed the time we spent with him. I highly recommend this tour.
