A Great Day in the Hunter Valley wine Region
Duane_R, Feb 2023
A great way to spend a day outside of Sydney, tasting wines, cheese tasting, chocolate sampling and viewing a unique wildlife preserve. We had a good lunch at the Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort golf course and saw a lot of roos on the course. Tour guide was told us al a lot about the Hunter Valley Wine region and wines in general.

Very enjoyable. Sam is very knowledgeable about the area and the wines. Great lunch at the Smelly Cheese Store, along with great tastings. Really enjoyed the Walkabout Wildlife Park petting the koala bear.
Wonderful tour but can be improved

Sam was really nice and wanted us to have a fantastic trip. We started at the Walkabout Wildlife Park to pet the most amigable Kangaroos and Koala!!!! We fell in love with them and wanted to have a little more time with the animals which were adorable!!! Then from there we made a stop at a chocolate factory which we could really avoid but that is when Sam gets in contact with the vineyards he chose for the specific group at the moment after asking us what is it that we personally like, plus its a bathroom stop as well. After that stop we went to our first Vineyard which was Peterson but it was not what we expected. The guy at the winery just gave us the name of the wine but didn’t do anything additional To explain either the process or the personality of each wine. The stop at Smelly Cheese was absolutely worth it! We didn’t know the Hunter Valley had such great cheeses and the explanation of them was wonderful as well. Then we had a really good lunch right there where they also had a Japanese restaurant in a beautiful place. After that, we really liked our stop at the Ernest Hill vineyard where Jackie gave us one of the best wine tasting experiences and the wine is quite good! We ended up buying 4 bottles of wine. The tour ended driving through a wonderful highway full of vegetation. Sam was wonderful but there is room for improvement.

Best Day Ever!

Do this tour! I mean... the day starts out with petting and taking selfies with koalas and kangaroos—can’t go wrong. We had the best time. The day was packed with lots of activities but that’s how we like to travel. Even so it still felt relaxing. Sam was an awesome guide: he kept us on track but was really easygoing and super informative! The wineries were picturesque. Definitely recommend!
A Fantastic Day

Overall a fantastic way to spend a day! The Wildlife Park was fun and petting a koala and kangaroo definitely a highlight. Sam kept the day moving and fun. The Hunter Valley is beautiful and the wineries so lovely and each unique. Again Sam is a great tour guide and made the day all around fantastic!
Sam is a gem!

Had a great time with a great group and a great guide in Sam. We had some setbacks mostly due to traffic and he rolled with the punches and created a lovely experience for us. My small tip: don't sit in the back if you get carsick easily. Otherwise a wonderful day with a wonderful guide!

Hi Will, thanks for taking the time to review. It was great to have you both along. Sorry mate, didn't realise you were getting car sick. For anyone who does we carry car sick tablets onboard which we are happy to share. For next time!
Spring in the Hunter Valley
Dot_M, Oct 2019
We enjoyed our day very much. The wildlife reserve allowed us to see native australian animals in a fairly natural habitat and the wine tastings were both enjoyable and informative. Sam did a great job both informing the group about the history of wine making in the valley and is clearly a supporter of the Wildlife Reserve. The group was a diverse one and two of the couples had very little understanding of english and relied on interpretation. I think all enjoyed it but it was difficult to know and Sam had to work hard to get a response to his input.
Hunter Valley wine and wildlife

Our trip with Sam was excellent. He made the day go smoothly and gave plenty of time at all the stops. We never felt rushed and enjoyed the wine and scenery. Getting up close to some wildlife was interesting and really enjoyed the chocolate and cheese stops. He knew his wines and got the feel for what the group liked. His sense of humour was infectious. An excellent day all round. Thanks Sam.
Fun Tour with a Fantastic Guide!

This tour was awesome! Our guide Sam was great - very friendly and knowledgeable. He even customized the winery visits to the group's preferences. The wildlife park was a wonderful way to start - up close views of all the Aussie creatures you want to see! And it's just enough time to see the animals there before heading to the wineries. All of the wineries we visited were lovely - very welcoming staff and enjoyed the tastings! We had lunch at the cheese shop, which was delicious! The brewery was a nice stop as well. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sydney!

This was a really great tour. Our guide and driver , Sam, was informative and funny. He tailors the vineyard visits around the personal tastes of the guests on the tour so each tour is probably slightly different. It is a long day but on the way back Sam tried to drop everyone as close to where they were staying as possible. Sam provides cold water, sunscreen, flyspray and hand wipes if you dont have your own. The wildlife park visit was charming and a good stop on the way to the vineyards. The koala was lovely. It was nice going on a small group tour as we all chatted together and it felt like more of the personal touch at the vineyards. My favourite was Blueberry Hill which started with a sparkling rose.
