What To Expect

Meet your small-group tour in central Sydney then get comfortable on your air-conditioned coach for the two-hour scenic drive to the Hunter Valley. Your guide points out the sights and explains their history as you travel through Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and over the Hawkesbury River.

When you arrive in the valley, your guide takes you to some of the favorite small producers in the region. Go wine tasting at celebrated wineries such as Iron Gate Estate, Tempus Two Wines and McGuigan Wines.

During your visit, you’ll taste as many as 20 different wines, including the Hunter Valley’s famous semillon and shiraz varieties. If you’d like to bring some home, you can purchase bottles from the wineries.

In addition to the wine, food has become a star of the Hunter Valley. Your tour includes a stop at an artisan cheese shop to sample a variety of delicious cheeses. For lunch, a delicious cafe lunch is included with hot and cold options available. 

Return to Sydney in the evening after a wonderful day in the Hunter Valley.

5 hours of driving not worth 3 wineries

Great 1st winery - saddler’s creek and the country club lunch. Jeff the driver was nice and stopping to see wild kangaroos was interesting.

Thank you for your feedback. We also appreciate you highlighting the distance from Sydney to the Hunter Valley - it takes 2-2.5 hours driving in each direction. There is very picturesque scenery along the way but it can seem like a long way sometimes. We visit smaller boutique wineries, whose wines are only available at the cellar doors in the Hunter Valley, so it is a unqiue experience once you are in the Hunter Valley itself. We are very glad that Jeff was able to provide some bonus highlights with the Kangaroos, and that you enjoyed Saddlers Creek and lunch at Cypress Lakes resort so much.

Unhappy in Sydney

This tour was cancelled late the night before it was to happen due to illness by the tour operator. They were willing to reschedule for a later date, however, we were leaving the next day. We had planned this tour way in advance and at the last minute, there were NO tours available to anything, so it ruined our stay in Sydney. I understand things can happen, but it left us without a tour to any major attraction. We could have gone home early and saved $300 on a hotel stay. Over the course of 2 weeks, Viator tour operators canceled 3 out of 4 of our tours that we planned. It left us with a bad feeling about Australia and New Zealand tours. I will have to say that the communication between the operator and us was great, just very disappointing.

Hello Kathy, We are deeply sorry that we were unable to take you to enjoy the Hunter Valley as planned. Unfortunately our guide was taken ill last minute, and since COVID we have on occasions not been able to call in a reserve guide at the very last minute. Unusually, there were also no spaces available with other operators to suggest because of the major events in Sydney in the last few weeks. Thankfully this situation is quite rare. Thank you for acknowledging our efforts to communicate with you and to offer alternate dates, but we understand that this was not practical for you on this visit. We really hope that you are able to travel to Sydney again in future and we would love to see you on tour if you do. best regards Brad

A Day of WINE and FUN!

Jeff, our tour guide was EXCELLENT. The Hunter Valley Wine Tour is something I do every time I am in Sydney and this was my tenth time. This particular one was EXCELLENT, due to Jeff AND the varied WINERIES we went to on this tour. As well, our group of 14 on the bus were FUN and all got along VERy WELL! After the first wine stop, Iw oddly say we bonded and LAUGHED the rest of the day!

The wine was great. It is amazing that such great wine doesn't make it out of the local area. Each winery explained the tasting process and what to look for. The addition of the cheese tasting gave it an extra spin that was unexpected. The guide was a wealth of knowledge, both on the area, and Australian culture.

Tony was a great tour guide, providing historical background as he drove us to Hunter Valley. The wineries poured us a number of different wines specific to the region. Lunch at Crystal Lakes golf course was delicious. We were even able to see a number of kangaroo mobs during our travels. I highly recommend this trip and Tony!

Nice but very rushed

We were due to be picked up at 7.40am from a hotel in the city but the bus was running late so didn’t get to us until about 8.10am. Whilst we were kept informed of the delay, it meant that we only had 5mins to take a toilet break and stretch our legs on the journey and at that point onwards, the whole day felt rushed. The wineries were nice and the hosts there were friendly and informative, as was our tour guide, but we were moved on from one place to the next without having any time to enjoy ourselves and relax or buy a glass of wine. There had been an accident on the route home so our tour guide wanted to leave as soon as he heard. Of course we don’t want to be stuck in traffic either but it was another thing to add to the feeling of our whole day being rushed. The group we were with were great and we really enjoyed speaking to people from all over the world but wouldn’t recommend the tour to someone else.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We really appreciate the opportunity to continuously improve the tour experience. Unfortunately your day was impacted by a couple of incidents, with the late arrival of some passengers in the pickups prior to yours, and the accident on the highway which could have caused very long delays on the way back to Sydney. We endeavour to include a number of visits during the day, and the locations are selected to reduce the travel time between spots and allow the most relaxed tastings possible. It seems that your tour was unusually squeezed from both ends which meant that you guide had to keep things moving during the day so that you still visited all of the planned locations. We apologise that this made the experience seem rushed, because this is exactly what we aim to avoid, and do on most tours. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the choice of wineries and informative hosts. We would love to have the opportunity to take you to the Hunter Valley again some time. Yours sincerely Brad
Great tour if you drink wine

Jeff was a fun tour guide. I travelled alone but it was still fun to taste wine and talk to other travellers. The wineries were great. I wish the cheese tasting was paired with wine, but having it separate did help to wash out the tipsy-ness.

It was an excellent tour. Visited three wineries and a cheese co. All had their individual character. Tasted a wide range of different wines. Steve, our guide gave us an emphatic welcome. He had a great sense of humour and it was fun to listen to his interesting accounts of Hunter Valley and Australia in general.

This is the first time our family joined a wine tasting activity and it has exceeded our expectations. We had a great variety of wine and got generous servings from all of the wineries we have been. My ultimate favorite was the wine and chocolate pairing. Our guide was informative and fun which added to our enjoymenf of our tour.

Very well organized. Jeff was a great tour guide and took us to some great wineries as well as a cheese tasting and chocolate pairing. To be honest lunch became a bit of a struggle!! But I would highly recommend this tour for both an excellent experience.
