What To Expect

After making your own way to Bondi Beach, meet your surfing instructor and get fitted with a surfboard, wetsuit and other gear for your surfing lesson.  Your instructor starts the lesson on the sand, introducing the gear and basic techniques for paddling out and popping up on your board. Practice your technique on the beach, and hear some entertaining stories about the history of Australian surfing.

Once you are comfortable with your dry run, pick up your board and step into the warm ocean waters to try catching some waves. Your instructor accompanies you into the water and helps you to improve your paddling and time your pop up. Have plenty of customized attention and time to practice in the water as you learn.

Whether you are a first-timer or you want to refresh your skills and test the big surf, the waves and weather at Bondi Beach are perfect for year-round surfing. Have the choice of a private lesson or learn in a small group with a maximum of five people. See more details under Itinerary below.

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
This experience requires good weather. If it’s cancelled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Ok surfing class for beginners

A good surfing class for complete beginners, but the instructors were not very enthusiastic. There were moments where they even gave the impression they were bored. A plus that the surfing school provided sunscreen and rash guard.

This was my first ever surfing lesson and I enjoyed it a lot, in spite of the weather conditions not being optimal (bit too windy). The teacher was excellent and very knowledgeable. He explained about rip currents and the basic technique, in a way that made sense and was easy to understand. Executing was harder of course, but it's all in the practice. The lesson made me want to do/learn more.

Learning to surf on Bondi beach, what more is there to say. I had never surfed before and have no balance but really enjoyed the experience. The Instructor's are good and personable. Spent the majority of the time on the water after a brief explanation on how to get up on the board. I would and have recommended this to anyone in Sydney.

Awesome time out on the water. We were a group of 6 including our instructor Luka. After a learning session on the sand, we jumped in the water and worked on catching waves for the rest of the session. Luka would pull us aside separately to give us feedback on how to stand better on the board. The 2 hours was the perfect amount of time with just about everyone standing by the end for their final waves.

Good instructors, but logistical issues

Booked the lesson six days in advance, and received a confirmation email that same day. Two days after making the booking, received an email from the tour operator stating that they were sold out for our chosen date. I did not see the email until a few days later, so didn’t respond. The original booking did not specify a time, only that the lessons were between 8:00am-5:00pm. I was expecting a follow-up email or SMS with details on the time but did not receive any additional info about exact lesson times. The day before the lesson, I called to find out what time the lesson was and was told only one time slot was available, which was fine. However, it turns out that had I not called to find out when our lesson was, it would have been considered “unconfirmed” and canceled, despite having been paid in full and having received an email with a confirmation number. The lesson itself—and our instructor, Eddy—was great. Each instructor had about 4-5 people in their group, so there was enough 1-on-1 time for each person. The weather cooperated so that helped as well. Sunscreen was provided. The provided surfboards and wet suits seemed to be in good condition, but the rash guards hadn’t been washed recently. The one I was handed smelled like someone had just run a marathon in it. Overall, still a positive experience and would recommend it to anyone looking to learn the basics.

The 2 week period you booked to surf is our 2 busiest weeks of the whole year and we have guests pre-booking these dates up to 12 months in advance and we were actually booked out. We always do our best to (if possible) try to find a way for our guests and in your case we made this happen. We are stoked we could get you out and surfing and that you had fun and enjoyed yourself! All our equipment (Surfboards, Wetsuits and rashies) are either new each season or maintained to new standard and cleaned and washed each use and we are so sorry your rash guard was not up to our usual standard! Hugo was a great instructor and it is a great value for 2 hours of surf lessons. I went with my teenaged daughter and she was a bit tired after 2 hours but I think it is necessary to get at least 2 hours in to learn anything.

I absolutely loved doing this! I have never surfed before, but the instructor took his time to teach each person who was there for lessons patiently and professionally. By the time we were finished, I was able to surf some of the small waves. I even signed up for an additional couple of hours afterwards to use their board and suit to practice a little. I highly recommend this surfing experience on Bondi. The instructors were great. High energy guys that were very supportive of all surfers at all levels.
