What To Expect

Make your own way to the boat dock at Circular Quay to board the spacious vessel that takes you out on the waters of Sydney Harbour. Soak up views of the waterfront, skyline, and famous landmarks including Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, and Fort Denison as your boat cruises across the scenic harbor to the north shore, where you disembark for the zoo.

With your Taronga Zoo admission ticket and cruise, you can take the Sky Safari gondola from the waterfront up the hill to the main entrance of the zoo. Peek out of the windows of the fully-enclosed gondola cabin for an aerial perspective on some of the zoo's residents.

Once inside the zoo, enjoy the many exhibits at your own pace. More than 2,900 animals live here in 10 themed areas—including Wild Australia, Wild Asia, and the Great Southern Oceans. The enclosures mimic the natural habitat of each creature. Check the daily schedule for keeper talks, which focus on animals such as Tasmanian devils, little penguins, giraffes, lemurs, and koalas. You may want to watch the seals in action at Seal Theatre or catch the free-flight bird show, where birds of prey demonstrate their hunting skills.

Enjoy sweeping views of iconic sights such as Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House both from your boat cruise and the Taronga Zoo, aka 'the zoo with the view.'

Taronga Zoo also has many picnic areas; feel free to bring a picnic basket and enjoy lunch with views of Sydney Harbour, or purchase food at one of the on-site cafes or restaurants. When you have finished your zoo visit, simply return to the dock to catch the cruise back to Circular Quay.

Taronga Zoo

Enjoy a day out at the award-winning Taronga Zoo, home to more than 2,900 exotic and native species. Learn about the different animals through one of the many free zoo-keeper talks; be entertained by the playful seals at the Seal Theatre; and watch the famous free-flight bird show, where birds of prey show off their hunting skills. Enter the zoo in style and take a ride on the Sky Safari Gondola. Skim across the top of the Asian Rainforest and see the orangutans swinging in the trees; then pass over the winding river of the AGL Amazon exhibit, home to animals from South America.

Fun day at the zoo!
Jenny_L, Nov 2022
Enjoyable day at the zoo! Animals are well looked after, and the zoo keepers are super knowledgeable and friendly. Views looking back at Sydney City were just amazing! Start time says 9am and to be there 20 minutes beforehand, however the office stand doesn't open until 9am. Knocked the rating down 1 star before the first ferry back was 1:40pm, and for a solo traveller this was quite late. Would have been good to have a ferry back an hour earlier. But I still had a great day!
Loved It

Beautiful facility and very well maintained. Great selection of animals and shows. Much better than the San Diego zoo

We enjoyed seeing the koalas and the kangaroos. The walk thru the children's animal encounter was especially nice. The entrance to the zoo via the cable car ride was unique.
Great day at the zoo
Greg_W, Nov 2022
Great day at the zoo, friendly staff to guide us at the ferry, easy to get to and from the zoo. Great experience to travel to the top of the zoo and wonder back down to the ferry. Great start to an excellent day
Taronga Zoo Nice, Too Much Reconstruction on this Time
Renee_B, Nov 2022
The Taronga Zoo is nice, however many areas are shut down for reconstruction/renovation. I understand this needs to be done for the animals, but I did not get to see a lot of the animals I wanted to see. I think this needs to be mentioned in the tour to make a better decision. Right now, is this not a tour I recommend, and I feel it was not worth the money I spent. I am very disappointed in it.
Zoo Adventure
linda_n, Oct 2022
Had a wonderful day without a hitch! Caught the hop on hop off ferry to the zoo. Took the cable car up the hill and enjoyed the zoo. We took the ferry to Manly Beach for lunch before we returned home.
A wonderful day at the zoo!
Antionette_J, Oct 2022
Love this place. Didn't know it was built in 1918. Lots of history in it. Love all the exhibits. Went during school holiday and it was still fine. Definitely would visit again!
Enjoyable time
Peter_G, Oct 2022
I loved the Sumatran tigers. I have never seen one before. The food offering was a bit bland. The sky gondola was also a success. A pity the gift shop in the middle of the zoo was closed as I wasn't going back to the top. The ferry was clean and on time
Rainy day and the zoo 😔.
Rebecca_L, Oct 2022
Lovely zoo, but not altogether suitable for a rainy day. Lions were keeping out of the rain, placing themselves very near the observation window. On the plus, Captain Cook had last minute available tickets when our original booking was cancelled due to staff shortages.
Zoo great ferry okay
David_S, Oct 2022
Very nice ride and zoo was excellent. Only thing we didn’t like was the timing of the return trip. We wanted to leave before bad weather hit, but there is a boat at 1pm then next one is at 2:20pm. Missed the 1pm by a few minutes. Didn’t want to wait for 1 1/2 hrs for next so we took city ferry back. Need to have some better timing.
Nice day trip
kathleen_y, Aug 2022
Great day trip. Short ride on ferry from Circular Quay. Zoo has nice variety of exhibits for all ages. Enough to see in 1 day, but not overwhelming. Be aware that there is lots of walking, hills & stairs. There are ramps for strollers etc, but it might be difficult for some folks with ambulatory issues. Really nice day.
Amazing view of Sydney Opera House!
Teresa_W, Aug 2022
Worthwhile for 1/2 day trip. Boarded at 9am and left by 1p. Zoo is small but able to see kangaroos and other animals. Best part is able to enjoy the amazing view of Sydney Opera House from atop! Would recommend.
Great family day out.
Gemma_D, June 2022
Cable car was exciting for the kids and great variety of animals. Best to get there early got very busy in the afternoon.
Usual Zoo experience
Debbie_P, June 2022
Usual zoo experience, quite a lot of animals not there or couldn't see. Earlier return ferry would be good.
Big day
Christine_S, May 2022
The whole trip and zoo was good to walk around all day. But foods basic and expensive. Water fountain is good idea.
Ferry Ride and Taronga Zoo

Seeing a duck billed platypus it was really cute. I didn't realise they were so small. Also lovely to see the large red kangaroos. So different to the other kangaroos
Fall in love with Wild Life
Pinar_A, Apr 2022
Easy transport, very polite staff, very neat and clean place, easy to walk every corner, signs help your way through. A lovely Sky Tour, great harbour view. Seal show was spectacular.
Be aware of limited private ferry departure and return times
Pauline_S, Apr 2022
Be aware the private ferry service is very limited so you need to time your trip well, otherwise you will be stuck waiting for up to an hour and a half for the next ferry.
Circular Quay to Taronga zoo
Samara_M, Apr 2022
Easy to find the terminal, quick to check in. Boat was great as youd expect. Only 10 mins from Circular Quay to Taronga. Only downside was when we got off the ferry we had to catch a bus up too the zoo at pur own expense. That was pk but we are from QLD so the opal travel system is unknown to us. Didnt really know that you could just tap your visa card. Most other people had the same confusion as us. No fault of the ferry service they did mention at our own expense. Feel like Taronga zoo should have explanined better as they had a person stationed at the bus stop assuming to explain this to people.
