What To Expect

Sydney Taronga Zoo opened in 1916 and has since become a major force for animal care, research, and conservation. You can take the ferry from Circular Quay to the zoo, a scenic ride that gives you stunning waterside views of the harbor city.

Once inside the zoo, proceed around ten themed areas where the animals live in surroundings similar to their natural habitats. Some of the featured themes focus on Wild Australia, the Great Southern Oceans and Wild Asia. x

Other optional activities such as animal encounters and guided tours can be booked at your own expense.

The regular ferry from Circular Quay, payable using the Opal card comes often enough.
Good place to spend a day,take a ferry ride from the circular quey to Torango zoo.A lot of sitting place to take rest chill for a while and walk,very clean and organised zoo.I refer to any age categories.

You advertise as cheaper to buy on line, but when I got to the zoo I found it would have been cheaper to buy at the desk as they have the options of family tickets and discounts for seniors. Also it would have been easy to buy there as short queue.

The location of the zoo is beautiful. Splendid views of the city. Organisation could be improved: Shows and keeper talks did not take place at the times indicated and it was difficult to find my way around. Some exhibits need urgent cleaning. Most visitors are families with small kids and they enjoy it. If you are an adult coming from abroad Australia Zoo is the better option. The koala and kangoroo exhibits are more modern there and with more animals on display.
The bird show alone is worth the ticker price

I loved the bird show :) it was worth the money I spent! I don't like zoos in general, but I believe the people working at Taroonga zoo are making their best to ensure animal welfare

Syndey zoo is better than Taronga zoo. They dont have much animals these days. And its not big enough for wild animals. I felt sad for caged animals.

Besides it being a wet day, the park was easy to get around and explore all areas. The animals appeared to be well looked after zoo animals which my son enjoyed finding all of them

Seal show and bird show. Tigers were good to watch. Heaps of closed areas. If winter is an issue for safety of animals then either the zoo should be closed temporarily or reduce the ticket.

I felt I connected with the beautiful seal, such a sweet tender animal that looks into your soul. Would like to see him/her in a much larger pool though.

It would have been good if the sites can inform which all animals are not availabble in the zoo.. hence it was not 100% good

Great zoo visit, loved the koala and chimpanzees exhibits the most! Their recommendation of using the zoo app which made a world of difference in how to organize my zoo day!

Lovely zoo but hard to walk for older people as it is very steep and hilly in parts. Try to visit on a weekday instead of a weekend for a more peaceful time. It was helpful to have a prepaid ticket through Viator to the zoo.

View from the zoo looking towards Sydney. Unfortunately it poured rain the morning we visited and many of the animals were not on display or sheltered ( certainly curious about the silly humans standing in the pouring rain staring at them! Lol)

The whole place is fantastic. Loved the openness. Wide pathways were great. Wasn't crowded during the day Thursday. Elephant's and Giraffes were my favorite....but the white checked Gibbon was super entertaining!

Thanks to the team at the Koala encounter for fitting us in as we missed our time slot, more on that later. Koala encounter was great with time to be up close and take photos and talk to a keeper. All the animals we saw were well cared for and you can tell that from their appearance and movement. We missed our time slot for the Koalas due to late ferry and bus. It's a shame the zoo don't provide free transport whilst the sky safari is closed. Good views back to the city, and the seal show was fun too. Recommended day out, but plan ahead for transport.

Significant parts of the zoo are closed either due to renovations or COVID. The tram from the ferry terminal was closed. The lion exhibit was closed. The elephant exhibit is being worked. The penguin exhibit was open but there were no penguins in any of the display areas. Most of the food venues were closed.

Oh my gosh, we had a great visit, and the koala bear exhibit and experience was the best. The seal show was fantastic so don’t miss any of the shows we spent five hours and loved every minute.
