Mingling with the locals .
Jamie_R, Sept 2023
It was very comfortable ride no more than 20 people, very punctual. They help with the immigration process from begin to end. Enjoyed an authentic Nicaragua breakfast & Lunch (delicious) Had time to enjoy a carriage ride with my spouse in beautiful Granada , really transformed you back in time, also visit the volcanoes park. Guide is giving you a brief history of this beautiful country know as fire and water. I even found out a few facts about my Country and one of its sonatas. I would strongly recommend this tour.we felt safe the whole time. Loved it !
Long drive, but worth it... just need guide to respect "Free Time" as stated on tour
Edgar_H, Sept 2023
Overall the tour has great content... it is a LONGGGG drive (started 430AM and ended after 8PM). the places were nice as stated on the tour... the only issue was that tour guide did not respected the set times as "Free time" and push you to follow him and not really having free time to take pictures or walk around since need to stick with him, however spent time (more than enough) on the cigar or chocolate factory which was not state on tour...
Nicaragua is beautiful...

Nicaragua is beautiful and parts were like stepping back in time. David was a great guide and kept things moving smoothly.
We had a wonderful time!
Angelica_V, Sept 2023
As I write this review please note about our tour, the 6 additional travelers on this trip agree with me wholeheartedly. We had a wonderful experience, starting with the welcome smile we received from our driver, Kener, at 5 am. Kener provided us with insightful information as we made the drive to the border and back home at the end of the day. Claudio, our tour guide, got us through customs and across the border so quickly, and his sense of humor put us all at ease at once. Once in Nicaragua, we met our driver, Tono, who proved to be an equally great driver as Kener. Tono was also a great sport who tolerated our teasing. Claudio, was very knowledgeable of the country and between him and Tono, took us to see some of Nicaragua’s amazing sights. Our pictures did not capture all the beauty the country has to offer. In addition, the meals provided were absolutely delicious, and we appreciated the little restaurants that catered to our group. It was a long day, but so worth it. In addition to the beautiful sights, our guides, Kener, Claudio and Tono made this trip a memorable one. I would recommend this tour a hundred times over.
Response from Host, Sept 2023
Thank you for your great review. At Natives Way we work hard to offer high-quality service to every guest. We made sure to share this feedback with Claudio, Kener and Tono to give them the recognition that they deserve! Pura vida!
Perfect Summary Day trip to Nicaragua
Stephanie_L, Sept 2023
Wao what an experience. We visit from PR so we dont have volcanos to see. I went to a Volcano in Costa Rica but the view and the volcano Masaya in Nicaragua was just impressive and espectacular. Completly gorgeous. The tour guide Gaspar was very knowledgeable and you could tell he loved what he does and were he lives. He loves Nicaragua and Tony the driver was so awesome and funny. Both of them were in a good mood, always making sure everyone was good and comfortable and all of our needs were taking care of. Overall althought it was only a day trip I found that the places they chose to take us was about a perfect summary for a day trip and getting to know Nicaragua. I woulnt change a thing. it was awesome thank you Gaspar and Tony.
Amazing day in Nicaragua!

Highly recommend! This was an excellent introduction to Nicaragua with lots of memorable moments. Our guide, Uriel, was absolutely the BEST! He was friendly and shared lots of great knowledge about the area--he's a wonderful ambassador for his country. I can't wait to return to Nicaragua to see more.
Okay, but probably wouldn't do it again

This tour was good for expediting the border crossing into Nicaragua (the line for buses and trucks was severely backlogged and our van was able to bypass, which cut travel time from 6 hours by bus to 3 with the van). The van was also almost 15 minutes late for picking me up without any communication, which had me in a panic over it not showing. I will also say that it feels a bit like our group was price gauged for the activities at hand. You get a maximum of 20 minutes at each site and each place you're brought. I ended up staying in Granada and the Volcano tour (with tour and entrance fees) was $22 round trip. The other places you go, such as the Masaya Artisan Market, were very clearly catered towards tourists and were free to enter, so I'm not sure where the $230 comes from, unless it is all going into transit costs. The coffee beans at the market were older and mass produced, and the rum/drinks are priced up for people visiting. The same for the chocolate factory "tour" which was ~5 minutes of mashing a cocoa bean and then being upsold on the different products and carriage rides. Good if you need to get to Nicaragua, but probably would have endured the bus if I had to do this over. Guide was very nice and knowledgable.
Unforgettable trip, well worth the long day!
Todd_M, Aug 2023
Can’t say enough about this experience! Started with amazing breakfast on the shores of Lake Nicaragua for typical breakfast, very delicious. Next to a volcanic lake overlook and some shopping. We then got to look into the active caldera of a volcano. We then traveled to Grenada which was such a charming colonial city and took a carriage ride around the city. While in Grenada we also took a boat ride to explore some of the 350+ islands in the lake and fed some monkeys. We had lunch in Grenada and then ended with a chocolate making demonstration with tasting. Our guide Uriel was the best! It was a long day but honestly well worth it. We felt very safe the whole time and got to see so much in one day that I left feeling like I got good taste of Nicaragua. 1000/10 recommend!
Fed the monkeys!

There are a lot of good things about this day trip to Nicaragua and a lot of not-so-good things. Booking was easy and simple and we received immediate communication with our pick up time at our hotel. Three days before the tour we emailed our passports and vaccine cards to the tour operator which were approved immediately. The pickup driver was nice but confused us by asking we bring our vaccine cards when the tour operator said we didn't need them, just our passports. Regardless we had our vaccine cards but never had to show them. Long drive to the boarder but the transition from our Costa Rica guide over to the Nicaragua guide was smooth. Our Nicaragua guide collected all the passports so our group can go through Customs quicker. You do have to walk across the boarder through lots of semi-trucks. The drive into Nicaragua was long as expected. Breakfast was eggs, ham and a view of the lake. Saw the volcano crater which was a nice highlight. Stopped to get souvenirs and had lunch which was nice. You may want to bring small bills because it's hard for them to make change. The boat ride to Monkey Island was another highlight and we got to feed the monkey, there are only three of them. The buildings in Granada are colorful and interesting and our group agreed to a carriage ride (extra cost) around the town. Then over to a chocolate shop. After all that we head back to Costa Rica on a long drive. Going through Customs was simple but again we had to walk back over the boarder with not much guidance other than stay close to the side wall. Overall the trip was just okay. Take it or leave it either way. Our vacation was short and we could have spent it on more fun things in Costa Rica instead. On the other hand if you have extra time then add it to your to do list. We left our hotel at 4:30am and returned at 9:00pm. Our same driver that picked us up drove back and took us to rough sketchy back roads to our hotel. Didn't like that at all. Nicaragua is not a wealthy country and the drive to and from Costa Rica is very, very, very long. We had a small fun group which helped make this trip a little more enjoyable.
Would do it again
Charles_L, July 2023
Actually visiting a live Volcano was the best part, we also opted for the horse and carriage tour which was great way to experience granada...food was good at both locations and service was very prompt...Bate Bate Chocolate gives a great presentation of their products which we bought several items....Our tour guides on the Nicaragua side was David and the Driver was Tonio which at all souvenir stops gave us a heads up on prices so we knew not to overpay, overall the trip was was great and the expertise of our guide made Crossing the border which if done alone would be a lengthy process streamlined into a 10 min process......Nicaragua is a beautiful place and is highly recommended for a day excursion
Worth it!
Rachel_A, July 2023
Gaspar was a wonderful guide -- he made a long trek feel light and totally worth it. He is super knowledgeable and allowed us to tailor the day how we wanted. He laid out the history of the country and politics, facts about natural resources, etc. and he was talking more than not, so he was definitely working all day! The highlight of the day for me was the boat ride and going to see monkey island. This particular time the 3 monkeys who inhabit the little island were not hungry (they must have just eaten, lol) and they did not come down to get the fruit I brought them, but we could still see them moving about the trees. Breakfast was amazing; lunch was lackluster. Also, I'm vegan and my gf is pescatarian and they were easily able to accommodate. The ride is long and exhausting (the ride back felt longer because there were no more tour stops along the way), but I (and everyone else in our group) felt it was worth it. So glad I got to see a taste of Nicaragua.

Be prepared for 8-9 hours of being cramped in a van with little-to-no A/C, depending on the time of year. Immigration is a mess at the border. Nicaragua was fine, but could've passed on the experience all together. Nothing really to see other than seeing the crater of a volcano. You can do a chocolate and cigar tour pretty much anywhere. Claudio was a good tour guide. Unfortunately we didn't know what we were getting outselves into with the drive, Immigration, heat and humidity that made a 14.5 hour excursion day feel like a 24 hour excursion day.
Experience unspoiled Nicaragua while you can

Great overview of Nicaragua
Tammie_S, July 2023
Our pick up from Tamarindo was at 430 am. We just returned at 930 pm. It is a long day with lots of driving, but it was well worth it. You get a taste of several places in Nicaragua. We started with a delicious traditional breakfast at a place near the lake. Perfect view of the volcanos. We moved on to a fun market place to do a little shopping. There was also a beautiful view there. We then visited the crater of an active volcano. This was a true highlight. We ate the most delicious lunch in yet another town. We visited Granada and visited a chocolate making place and had a tasting. That was fun. We walked the town for a bit to see the sites. We ended with a boat tour of the tiny islands that were formed by volcanos. We saw the amazing houses and Monkey Island. Our tour guide Gaspar and driver Sergio were fantastic. Cons: lots of driving, going through customs was a little confusing but they guides took excellent care of us. Wear comfy shoes and light clothes, sunscreen and bring cash. They accept and will give you change in US if you ask for it. The people of Nicaragua were incredibly kind.
Worth the trip!
Michal_L, June 2023
Our tour guide Gaspar was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This was really an interesting and great experience. It was a long hot exhausting day with a lot of riding in the car but was really worth it. The Volcano craters, the views and the boat ride on the lake, chocolate tour and horse drawn carriage ride. It was a wonderful day.
Chance to safely visit Nicaragua
Amanda_W, May 2023
Good chance to see Nicaragua with a group that knows it’s way around and can get you through customs easily. It’s a very long day but to me it was worth it. The active volcano was my favorite part, as you can go right up to it. The main thing to watch out for is scheduling: almost everyone on my trip had to reschedule to this date because there weren’t enough people to run the trip on the days we signed up for. Fortunately it worked out for me but I had yo scramble to rearrange my other plans to make the new date. So be aware that there’s a good chance your tour date will be cancelled and have back-up plans.
Awesome trip!
Brian_H, May 2023
This was an incredible day that I won’t forget, all of our drivers and guides were courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. I really feel that the trip was worth the price for all of the entries, parks, food, transportation. The weather cooperated and I had great co-tourers which was an added bonus. 10/10 would do again, thanks!
1st time in Nicaragua
