First of all, tour guide and drive were amazing! Picked up from Canggu at 0145, and started the hike around 0330. This hike is difficult and if you're not in decent shape, there are options to take a motorbike up/down or jeep with minimal hiking (jeep is a different tour). Took roughly two hours up and one hour down with breaks. I was solo and had the tour guide to myself and he was amazing, carrying my backpack and helping me up the trail. About half way up the trail is steep and rocky and you take the easier way back down. For me, I felt hiking the trail that early in the dark with a flashlight was a bit disorienting and caused some dizziness. Breakfast was banana sandwiches, eggs, snakeskin fruit, a chocolate bar, and tea/coffee. Sunrise was incredible and well worth the hard work getting to the top. Additionally, I chose the hot springs afterwards and would definitely recommend! After all that hiking I was sore and the hot springs felt amazing! Well worth the early show time!

Great experience

Great experience trekking up Mount Batur. Murtana our driver picked us up at 2.30am and was our driver for the whole day. He did a great job. When we arrived we met our trekking guide, Putu who would lead us up and down the climb. It is a short 7km return hike but quite challenging in places. Putu was very knowledgeable and made sure we were all OK with the pace etc. We then Met with out driver again and went to the hot springs which were great for the muscles after a long hike!

The tour company was very disorganized, the hike was terrible and very crowded, and the breakfast was ok. We had to pay extra fees over what we had already paid online. Not a great experience.

It is a long steep walk but worth it when you reach the viewpoint. Sadly we didn’t get to see the proper sunrise due to fog but there was still amazing views at the top and along the walk back. The guide was very patient as well. Thank you

Worth the trek

Our driver, Kadek, was great. He was very kind and friendly. The hike up Mt Batur was long but our guide, Wayan, helped us a lot and was really good at making sure we had enough breaks. He was very fun to hike with! He made us a really nice breakfast and took the most amazing photos of us. The view was worth all of the work to get there. Highly recommend doing this!

I’ve went up there on 9th April. My guide is a gem! Absolutely loved every moment! He was enthusiastic all the way and I loved his suggestion of walking around the rim. He was apologetic about the sun hiding behind the clouds however I thought watching the clouds drifting across made it equally special.

I liked the mountain sunrise hike paired with the hot springs. The hike was intermediate and even though it was cloudy and rainy on the way up it cleared up quick to see the sunrise (guides said that happens pretty much every time). Guide was helpful and provided head lamps for the hike. The hot springs were a great addition to relax from the hike. Also, you get there early so there isn't that many people there and it is cooler, so the hot water feels nice. Would book again.

Tough but beautiful

Iwan was an amazing guide on the mountain! He was so patient and kind. He offered so many interesting facts about the mountain. I'm very thankful that I had this experience. Real talk though: this hike was HARD! You are climbing over 1000m in elevation in about 1 1/2 hours. You need hiking shoes with ankle support and willpower. Unless you consider yourself VERY fit specifically with hiking at elevation, consider taking the motorbike to the top.

I loved this experience! Our tour operator (Jero Susun) was wonderful! He was always available to answer questions which I greatly appreciated. Our guide (Nukare) greeted us in the morning. He was very nice and enthusiastic. He made the trip more enjoyable for me. He always checked in and asked if we were happy and ok. Once we got close to the summit we stopped and had breakfast. It was very good. Nice to have warm tea when the cold wind picks up. After breakfast we finished the hike and reached the summit in time to watch the sun come up. It was gorgeous. We got really lucky with the weather. Our guide was more than happy to take photos for us. (I recommend checking the photos before leaving - just to make sure you like them) He was a very fun and lively person. It made the hike even better. Once we got back down we headed to the hotsprings. Our driver was very patient and waited for us for almost 2hours. The hotsprings are lovely. After we were done there we got dropped off at our hotel in Ubud (which was not our original pick up hotel; so that was extremely kind of them) I highly recommend this operation; they will take good care of you. I forgot my jacket and sunglasses and they made sure to get them back to me. Just incredible service! Thank you so much for this amazing adventure! Please note: The tour guides have no control over the amount of dirt bikes on the trail. They do their best to hike up in spots that the bikes cannot access. The bikes stop around 3/4s the way up the mountain. It is a busy little mountain! Do not expect to feel like you have it to yourself. Be courteous and patient. Also, it gets chilly! Don't underestimate that. Bring some warm clothes with you.

It was a bit cloudy during our hike so we didn’t get the best sunrise but the hike was great. Our guide manku was incredible. He helped my wife so much during the hike. She is afraid of heights and he was incredibly helpful. The view from up to was completely worth the early wake up. The hot springs were very helpful after all that hiking.

The hike and hot springs is well worth the experience. It’s not an easy hike up as it takes the steeper but shorter trail and will take about 2 hours if you’re not in the best of fitness for the hike but the views from the top are well worth it. Our local guide was great and didn’t rush us to get up and come straight down, instead he was happy to wait and let the cloud clear so we had epic views from the top of the mountain. The food provided at the top was ok but I’d suggest folks pack their own drinks and food for after the hike to the top. There are local sellers who will bring snacks to the top that you can buy but they’re not cheap. There’s also an option to take a dirtbike ride down the mountain (bookable on the day - approx 250k IDR) with an experienced rider. This is well worth it if you want a different experience after your hike) how many times do you get to ride a motorbike down a volcano). The hotsprings is well worth spending time at to relax your muscles and joints after the hike. It was wonderful having this included in our tour. Having our private driver was excellent too. Made it very easy getting to where we needed to be, he was chatty and friendly and more than accomodating of our two pick up/drop off points.
