An incredible hike with the most spectacular sunrise views. Our guide JRO was very patient and knowledgeable and his English was excellent. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who is up for an epic adventure.

Great Tour Guide, Awful Driver

Excellent guide up the mountain (local knowledge and very accommodating). We only have good things to say about her as she was lovely. Unfortunately the driver from Coco Tours Ubud (the travel service) was awful - very dangerous driving, tailgating other vehicles and several near misses with pedestrians and other road users which was appalling - also on his mobile phone, when he should have been concentrating on the road (hence the reason why we didn’t give five stars). It’s a shame as all other tours in Bali have been great. Just a young reckless driver which is the last thing you want to experience at 2:00am for a pick up.

Not for the faint of heart!

The tour was well organized and communication beforehand was great. The driver showed up right on time (actually a little early). It was very early in the morning and the drive was long, but the trek quickly woke us up. It was more strenuous than I was expecting, and we were all sweating profusely which unfortunately made us VERY cold when we reached the top. We welcomed the hot beverage provided by the tour guide and the banana sandwiches were interesting. There is always risk that clouds will prevent seeing the sunrise, but we were fortunate to have a good view. The trek down was a bit easier because it was light so we could see better. This is a great tour if you want to get some exercise and fresh air combined with pretty intense physical activity and a great view. And it was nice to be cold/cool for a change.

An incredible guide and a really memorable experience. Our small group had great treatment (meal, materials, etc) compared to some of the other hiking groups (who I imaging used a different tour group). All around fantastic!

Challenging yet rewarding hike!

My first time trekking Mt Batur! Started off with our driver Gede picking us up at our hotel and bringing us to the start point. Our guide Ketut is caring and makes sure we are ok from time to time! He even went the extra mile of carrying my bag pack for me up when he saw I was struggling with climbing up! We made it at the top with an hour to spare and were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise, clear skies and a hearty breakfast of banana sandwiches and boiled eggs! After the sunrise, Ketut brought us around the crater to take more photos and marvel at the steam vents before descending. Overall I had a really good experience with Ketut as my guide and will want to trek Mt Batur again!

Definitely recommend booking this if you want to hike Mount Batur for sunrise. The pick up was efficient and comfortable and J who led us up was friendly, very knowledgeable, and knew the best spots at the top. The group size was also a nice smallish size so we could walk at a suitable pace and take smaller paths which were interesting.

Not worth the money and the early start

Really hard trek, need to be pretty fit to enjoy it or at least complete it. Saw absolutely nothing at the top apart from rain and clouds. Stayed at the top too long to then see the sunrise a little further down. Driver's car there/back was beyond dirty and he was sleeping when our guide tried to call him to collect us on the way back down so we had to walk about 30 mins more then most groups, all the way back to the car park. Last car left in the car park and he had to be woken up. We then had to wait another 20 mins, when we were so tired and hot, to wait for more people to get in the car, which didn't come with us on the way. After 20 mins, the driver said we didn't have to wait anymore and left without them so wasted even more time. The only saving grace was the actual guide - he was so friendly and helpful on the walk.

The trekking was really good. Although the way up is a bit steep, as there are lots of people going up, the rythm is good to stop and recover energy. We did all the way with three local guys who were all the time checking that we were OK, what made me feel comfortable and safe. We were lucky and the weather conditions were good. The views were amazing!!! I would really recommend this tour. Waking up at 1:30 am really worth it.

went with jro, not speeking so much (at the beginning, later we were too exhaustet to speak much), only 3 persons to guide, he had a good pace and made sure we are fine, simple but excelent breakfast: i had banana-toast, egg, sweets, coffee. nice spots we had seen! we where a little bit before the other groups above and jro would go down a little bit earlier than the others (as we asked) and we wouldn‘t be in the great mass of tourists at the rather small way down. pick up from another (from the selected ones) was possible (: wonderful experience!!

Nature is at its best at Mount Batur. Very beautiful place. Only disappointment was motorbikes on the trekking road which were creating unnecessary air pollution and noice pollution. The guide was not at all good and was trying to convince us to take bike. No information and attaintion provided to the group during trek.

Tiring, fun but can be dangerous

Booking might not be required because a lot of people climb together. Just bring torchlight, some food and (they sell hot drinks at summit) coat. Nice and friendly guy, talked to me in fluent English. Pretty cold at the summit (coat recommended) Breakfast was bengbeng chocolate bar, banana, 2 hard boiled eggs and bread with smashed banana inside with a hot drink at the summit. Going down was dangerous because it’s steep and some fell. Ankle hurts because of rocks (not flat ground/ proper steps)

Easy to book, punctual and fairly comfortable ride (don't expect luxury, it was a small 6-seater bus, but good enough for the 4 hour plus journey), communicative (we chatted with Wayan through whatsapp and he answered our questions promptly before the trip and he also checked in with us after the trip). Our guide, tri, was our strict and super fit Hike Mama - she took 4 of us up to the summit - we were the first to reach, and watched the sun rise over hot tea, bread and 200ºC crater-steamed eggs. She also generously gave us a tour down the other side of the volcano, instead of going back the same way. All in all, amazing, breathtaking views - the kind of beauty that makes you step back and reassess your entire world. Highly recommended.

very pretty, a little pricey

The beautiful view was extremely worth the strenuous hike. The hike is very slippery going down due to all of the loose rocks so make sure you have good shoes! However I wish we were able to do this hike without a tour guide because, despite being very sweet, she was only there to accompany us on the hike. I wish she could have given us more information about Mt Batur. The breakfast before hiking was a banana crepe and then hard boiled eggs with sliced bread at the top of the hike. I wouldn't want to spend this much on tour that didn't provide much more than if we were able to have done this by ourselves.
