An Amazing Experience
Melacyn_T, Apr 2023
Our host, Dema, was a walking history book. We explored the community garden while he picked the herbs and vegetables for our lunch. We walked (wear comfortable shoes) along the streets of his village while he provided an amazing historical lesson. Once we reached his house, we were greeted by other community members. Dema explained the recipes (I wrote while my cousin chopped). You get to keep the book with the recipes in them. Overall, 10/10. Very good experience!!
Cooking class in a Traditional Balinese home
Isobel_K, Apr 2023
Our driver picked us up and took us to his home. It was a traditional Balinese house in the beautiful countryside. All the ingredients we used were from his huge garden where he grew absolutely everything from lemongrass to bananas. His family were very friendly and showed us around their home set in a very rural tranquil setting. The food we cooked was amazing and we wrote down all the recipes to make the dishes again at home. It was a truly amazing experience to see Bali at its most authentic location. I would highly recommend this cooking class I can’t praise it enough.
Outstanding Experience
Woodward_M, Nov 2022
What an incredible experience. This was so much more than a cooking class. We began with an extensive tour of Dewa’s village, lifestyle and culture. It was a wonderful history lesson as we walked through the village. We cooked 5 dishes and have the entire recipes to take home. I would say this was one of the top highlights to our two week trip to Bali.
Cooking class and so much more

Dewa was a brilliant host. Incredibly knowledgable about his culture and local traditions which almost made us foRget we were on a cooking class! He took us for a walk through the local streets, stopping to pick the fresh veg from the community garden that we were going to cook later on. He then introduced us to some of his family and showed us around his beautiful, traditional home. Finally we got to preparing the pastes and fresh veg and meat whilst recording the 5-6 recipes in a recyclable book made locally. We could not recommend more, thank you Dewa and family!
Highly recommendable

Excellent storytelling, great hospitality, nice people and most importantly, great food. Great atmosphere all around the place.
One not to miss if you're a foodie!

Our morning spent with Dewa at his home was by far the highlight of our trip. We had a wonderful time learning to make a whole bunch of delicious traditional Balinese dishes, Dewa was an excellent teacher! He provided us with a notebook so that I could write down the recipes and repeat them at home. We also learnt so much about Balinese culture and Dewa and his family's way of living, with a tour of the local area and gardens where they grow so many of their ingredients. Even my husband, who generally doesn't enjoy cooking agreed it was the best thing we did!
Amazing authentic experience!

What an incredible experience! Our gracious guide Dawa was wonderful, giving us a history of his village and Balinese culture. After we were picked up from our hotel in Ubud and greeted, we drove about 30 minutes to his village where we were dropped off to take a scenic walk through the lush landscape and neighborhood streets while teaching us about local customs. At his home, we learned about how they live; and how they cook traditionally for health and medicine and not for taste. Don’t be afraid because the food is really good. They just are not going to add lots of salt but just enough and all the ingredients are locally picked and fresh. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a taste of tradition and an experience not very common nor mainstream.
Once in a lifetime
Mikaere_B, Apr 2022
If you are on the fence about doing this - please just book. This was the most enlightening experience we could've asked for from the moment we met Dewa. He took us through his local village while explaining that Balinese religion, and his wonderful positive outlook on life. Once we arrived at his home, we were given a beautiful handmade book from the local children, and shown how to make 6 different amazing foods. The class was very hands on, with the majority of the work being done by us. The meal was one of the best we've eaten in our lives and we will never forget this experience. 10/10 does not do this justice, please go ahead and book!
AMAZING Dinner

This was an amazing experience, and we would recommend this experience for everyone visiting Bali. It was personal and such a wonderful insight into the life of the Balinese through their cooking and the invitation into their family home which was just spectacular. Dewa was a most informative and welcoming host and we could not have thanked him enough for having us and sharing his life's story. One of his spirituality and how this foundation has made him the man he is today surrounded by his generations of family members. It is a must to all visitors to give you an understanding of their culture and their beautiful outlook on life. It was just beautiful. Thanks again DEWA - you are a inspirational and beautiful person.
Fantastic day with Dewa and delicious food!
Christopher_M, Sept 2019
Dewa and his driver picked us up from our hotel at 9am and drove to his village. He took us on a tour and explained about their life, religion and various types of foods that grow in the area. Then we went to his house where he and his family taught us step-by-step how to make 6 different dishes (everything from salad to mains to dessert). He even gave us a hand made book to write the recipes in! It was such a great day and we had the most peaceful lunch in his garden. Couldn’t recommend this class more!
Cooking experience in Bali
creheim, Sept 2019
Excellent experience to Balinese cooking. Dewa spent some time to first explain the agricultural model and its philosophy. We went through his garden to discover the typical Bali's plants. He welcomed us in his home to go through hands on cooking. Everyone was involved. We finally got to taste the 7 delicious recipes prepared. A unique experience to get closer to Balinese culture.
Authentic & Delicious
gabbame91, Aug 2019
Dewa was such a loving and warm-hearted host. He taught us about his culture, gave us a tour of the wild vegetation that was used for our meals and opened his home to us to learn how to cook. We cooked 5 traditional Balinese meals that were easy to remake (I cook these regularly at home in New York) and were absolutely delicious. My sister and I had so much fun! We will be returning for a Part-2 cooking class to learn more.
Best way to experience Bali
Kang H, July 2019
This is the best cooking experience ever! Dewa started off by taking us through the gardens and forest where we get a better of understanding of the ingredients used for the cooking and the agriculture. And he further explained the culture, mentality and history of Bali and Balinese. Then he brought us back to his home, where he and his family taught us step by step the traditional cooking. Though it took us two hours to get there, but we had loads of fun! Highly recommend!
Insightful journey into Balinese culture
Wayne_L, July 2019
For our traditional Balinese cooking experience and garden tour in Ubud, we had the pleasure of having Dewa as our host. He drove us 15-20 minutes out from Ubud to his village. This is an amazing experience for anyone interested in being immersed in traditional Balinese culture and way of life. Dewa takes you through a journey through the village explaining different plants and farming practices as well as the history of Bali throughout time and the basis of its religion and cultural heritage. He explained about the Balinese simple way of life, living in harmony and balance with nature. We learnt many lessons in how we could improve our approach to our own lives and spirituality. After a peaceful walk, we looked at local tofu making and he showed us around his home. Our cooking lesson was fun and easy to follow. We were given the recipes for the dishes we made. We were able to relax and enjoy the food we cooked. All very delicious. After the meal, he drove us back. Highly recommended, one of the best things we did in Ubud. This tour directly helps to support the small villages and the traditional Balinese way of life to continue. Highly recommend!
A fantastic opportunity to learn more about Balinese culture

This was such a perfect way to spend our day. A drive into the hills from our accommodation to our meeting point was well worth it. Dewa was such an excellent teacher and guide who shared cultural information, stories and his cooking skills and knowledge with us. We came away feeling we had experienced something very special.

Spent 10 days in Bali and this was the absolute highlight. My wife and were looking for a traditional cultural experience and Dewa gave it to us. Being invited into his family home for a meal was an honor and priviledge. This is far more than just a cooking class.

The trek, the tour, the whole experience was life changing and powerful! Dewa is poignant and wise and lives with a wonderful philosophy that is at peace with his environment and has given me food for thought. The food to eat was even more delicious and I’m keen to try the recipes out when back home
Words cannot describe this...
Astrid A, Sept 2017
Words cannot describe this experience, there is no doubt that this 'tour' is worth your time. Dewa is beyond authentic, with a smile and a calm voice, he opened the doors not only to his house and village, but to a philosophy of life that holds more truth than anything we own or desire, one that allows us to exist beyond ourselves in close connectedness to nature and the seasons, community and cycles of life. The food we cooked under the family's guidance was delicious, varied and plenty, and I do not exaggerate to say that some of Dewa's words have had an irreversible, amazingly positive impact on my life. Yet, even if adding spiritual light onto your path while in Ubud is that's not what interests you, the time walking around the 'garden', and the discovery of the different wholesome ingredients that are included in these traditional recipes is just a time of simplicity, fun and joy. Also note that this is not one of the tours where there's many other people with you, it's a private tour and has a very different feel not that the other are not usually good, but this was the best cooking tour i've personally done- you also get to keep the recipes. A rich sharing experience that is worth every cent and more. Dewa, thank you so much for your light, Adrien and I shall carry it always. Until we meet again Sensei, I wish you and your family good health and happiness- Astrid.
