Tour not as expected - too long for a day tour
Kristine_F, May 2023
Seeing the sights of what happened in Normandy was amazing. However, it was a very long day as a day trip from Paris. The tour was not what I was expecting. Our tour guide was nice but rambled on about things off the topic which used up a lot of time. We passed a couple of museums that I would have liked to go to instead of standing on Omaha Beach for 45 minutes in the cold as our guide flipped through a book. This happened on Utah Beach as well. He took us to a small church where soldiers were treated during the invasion but it was just an empty church. I feel the museums would have been a lot more interesting. Seeing the American Cemetery was amazing

Dear Kristine, Thank you for your feedback. We take all constructive criticism to heart. Coming from Paris for a day trip is a long day. We cannot change distance from the capital. The Allies chose Normandy’s coast for the Overlord Operation as it was the most strategic point to invade during the Nazi Occupation with success. The itinerary of our small group tour is clearly listed on our internet site. Seeing as you would have preferred seeing more museums and spending less time on the beaches, I would suggest opting for a private tour next time. This will allow you to build your itinerary together with your guide and really pin point your interests. As for the ‘empty church’, I invite you to read “ANGELS OF MERCY” by Paul Woodage, an excellent historian who lives in Normandy. Paul Woodage operates WW2 TV and has a documentary about this particular church which is well done. I am disappointed that you were not enthralled and captivated by the subject matter and presentation. This concerns me. I will follow up with your guide and discuss ways to make the presentation more universally attractive. Thank you again for taking the time to write your comments.

Visiting the beaches where so many gave their lives in the name of freedom. Unfortunately we live in a world now where that freedom is threatened once again not by outsiders but from within our own country and government.

Charlie was a great guide, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The tour route was well planned, and though we covered a lot, it didn't feel rushed. I would definitely recommend this day trip.

WELL WORTH THE TRIP
Kathy_F, Apr 2023
Our guide, Pascal, was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and accommodating. He is passionate about the stories and entertained us well! Great day and great tour. We felt like we not only saw all the beaches of Normandy, the Air Force museum, and the American cemetery but we also saw quaint French towns and churches. Really great tour.

Pascal was great!
Chris_W, Oct 2022
Pascal was an awesome guide! Very knowledgeable, passionate, and had a great sense of humor. The sandwich place he took the group for lunch was also outstanding. The best eclairs I have ever had! Everything everyone else has said about the tour is as advertised. A very educational and moving experience.
Fantastic guide!
Matthew_R, Oct 2022
Matt is an incredible guide! Highly experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic - was probably the best guided tour I've ever done. Would highly recommend!
Probably the best tour of my life!
William_R, Oct 2022
That was an absolutely outstanding tour. Matt was extremely clear and complete in his lectures on various topics of interest. He demonstrated a serious depth of knowledge on the numerous aspects of Operation Overlord, what came before, and what followed. All of this was made much more engaging by his infectious enthusiasm for the subject and the environs of Normandy. Cannot possibly recommend highly enough!
Beware of Policy!!
Valerie_R, Oct 2022
I actually did not end up going on this trip because I thought after travelling the previous day I may have contracted Covid-19. I tested and was negative, but not before I missed the trip and I was denied a refund for the excursion. I did the right thing to protect everyone. Beware of booking anything from this site, because extenuating circumstances may cause you to lose out of the price of these activities!

Hello, We are a bit taken back by the title of your review. We would prefer to read “THANKFULLY, THEY ADHERE TO THEIR POLICY” Bayeux Shuttle strives to protect all its clients! We are a tour provider and our role is to guarantee the opportunity to take a tour. This guarantee is secured with your payment. Due to limited availability, we had refused other visitors who wanted to have the opportunity to tour with us that day. We are sorry that you could not make the tour, but we are also sorry that there are other visitors who could not reserve the tour because they thought it was filled.

The small church at Place Toccoa was beautiful and the cemetery for American soldiers was very moving.
We love Matt
David_S, Jul 2022
The tour was excellent. Matt was right there at the train station to pick us up in the morning. We road in a very clean and comfortable coach to all the locations. Matt gave us tons of information as we road along to our destinations as well as while he walked us thru each location. This was one of the best tours we took on our European vacation. I highly recommend viator and ask for Matt as your tour guide. He is kind, respectful and tells the story of D-Day with so much passion you can't help but get emotional. We love Matt.
A Gem for WWII History Buffs
Cody_G, Jul 2022
This was a day trip from Paris for my 12-year old son who is a WWII history buff. He loved it. He got to walk into Point Du Hoc bunkers and around the Sainte Mere Eglise town (setting of The Longest Day)—loved it. Mike was a fantastic tour guide—so knowledgeable with so many interesting background stories of soldiers and troop movements on all sides and perspectives. The tour van was great too. Couldn’t have been more perfect—a gem for WWII history buffs.

Positivity
Melissa_H, Jun 2022
Our tour guide always finished with a positive and uplifting story to follow the grim reality of the high death toll and struggle of the military forces up against the German military.

Storytelling
Jim_W, Apr 2022
Matt was an excellent guide and story teller. No museums, no videos, just stories and views of real events. You won’t be disappointed in the least
Response from Host, Apr 2022

Excellent
Neha_M, Aug 2019
I booked this for my history buff husband, expecting myself and my 3 children to be bored and tired. Instead, I walked away with a powerful experience and a comprehensive understanding of WWII history. Aurelia was amazing. She not only gave the backdrop of events but made them come to life. Would definitely recommend this trip.
Amazing value for money (and time)
Anal N, Aug 2019
Visited D-day American Beaches in Normandy with Bayeux Shuttle on 10 July 2019. The tour was highly rewarding in terms of the amazing places where a very important part of modern history was written as well as our fantastic tour guide Mr. Jon who, with his detailed and informative explanations, along with the photographs, made the visit highly memorable for us.
