Overview

This half-day boat cruise takes you to the two best snorkeling sites in Kealakekua Bay: The reef beneath Captain Cook's monument and the underwater lava formations of Red Hill. In addition to breakfast and lunch, your guides provide all necessary equipment, basic snorkeling tips, and identification charts to help you spot fish and dolphins in their natural habitat. Don’t forget your camera—the route showcases sweeping views of the Kona coastline.

    Check in location for Hoku Nui is at 8:15am at Keauhou Bay's finger pier located at the end of Kaleiopapa Street continuing past the boat ramps. You may park on Kaleiopapa Street. Hoku Nui is a 50 foot Catamaran with a blue sail bag. The boat departs Keauhou Bay at 1pm.

Loved the tour, snorkeling, and scenery! Amazing! The boat was beautiful and the crew was absolutely wonderful! Would do it again for sure. Only downside, don’t show up hungry. Breakfast and lunch were on the skimpy side.

Outdoor adventure with a side of hospitality

The crew were very welcoming, friendly, and eager to make every aspect of the trip enjoyable. The trip flipped my expectations with regard to which of the two snorkeling spots we’d like most. We saw a good variety of marine life at the lava fields including one stingray, coral, sea urchins and half a dozen or more types of fish. The Captain Cook monument site had similar fauna, but was a bit crowded due to a steep drop offshore. Our athletic 14 and 16 year olds loved it, but there was ample gear and assistance for older folks to soak up the adventure as well.

The crew was amazing! The boat is super clean and easy to get on and off of. The ride to snorkeling and back was a dream come true. Seeing Humpbacks breaching topped off the day. Worth every penny! We highly encourage you to take this beautiful ride with an awesome crew.

The boat was beautiful and the crew friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the legends. The Captain was a great story teller and was engaging and fun. It was a great day to be on the water and enjoy the beautiful waters of Hawaii and the sun. There was plenty of fish to see, good food to eat and stories to hear.

We were fortunate to have the “Dream Team” on our tour! It was such a wonderful experience. The crew worked seamlessly with each other. They were friendly, fun, organized and full of so much knowing, which they generously shared. The boat was spotless and comfortable. Early on, we were alerted to a group of Spinner Dolphins approaching our vessel. As we watched them glide by, the crew filled us in on their background and interesting tidbits about them. Plus, we saw a baby! Both snorkeling destinations were delightful and different in topography. The food was great and the service even better. If we are fortunate to visit the Big Island again, this tour will definitely be a repeat! Thank you Eddie, Jesse and Ellie. An extra big thank you to Kamaile for finding and sharing the beautiful octopus!

Perfect Storm!

We had an amazing day with Captain Morgan and his crew! The day started out with check in, boat safety information, crew intros and a light breakfast. Our first stop along the Kona Coast was so beautiful. We snorkeled for about 20-30 minutes and then headed over to Captain Cooks Bay. Wow! The snorkeling here was so incredible! Then it was time for lunch and a story of Captain Cooks Bay by one of the local crew members. I highly recommend this trip! Well worth every penny. It started to rain pretty bad on the way back but that didn’t ruin anything… it was the perfect storm in true Hawaii fashion!

Great Boat, Great Crew, Great Day

I searched hard to find a catamaran snorkel cruise with good reviews and this one did not disappoint. As of this review, 2022, the boat is less than a year old and the nicest catamaran I've been on to date. The crew were very safety-conscious and I loved snorkeling with lifeguards nearby on paddleboards. Basically, I can't say enough positive things about this tour. The only downside was that the reefs around the Big Island are pretty decimated. I hope over the next decades the government and utilities companies will find was to keep waste water and chemicals out of the waters of this beautiful island and give the reefs the chance to come back. That said, we still saw an eel, many fish, and had an absolutely wonderful time with this crew and boat. There are other comments complaining about the food - we expected a sandwich lunch and weren't in any way disappointed - the breakfast was good for a large group of people and the lunch was also good. If you're expecting a sit-down meal, you will be disappointed. But if you're expecting decent food and a day of snorkeling on a beautiful boat in a beautiful setting, this is the tour for you!
