What To Expect

The Polynesian production at the Island Breeze luau has been voted 'best in west Hawaii,' and when you spend an evening at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, it’s easy to see why this Big Island luau is one of the most popular in town.

Held on the shores of Kamakahonu Bay. The luau is set near Ahu’ena — King Kamehameha’s former estate — and provides visitors with a backdrop of paddlers, boaters, and Hualalai volcano. When it’s time to eat before the show, choose from a 22-dish buffet that will satisfy even the biggest eaters, and enjoy the drinks at the open bar as the sun disappears on the horizon. During the royal procession, sit back and watch as King Kamehameha arrives in an outrigger canoe and performers offer an oli, or chant, while others blow on the conch.

Over the course of the fiery Polynesian revue, you’ll travel across the Pacific Ocean from Fiji to Aotearoa, and hear dances, chants, stories, and tales from Tonga, Hawaii, and Samoa.

Luau
Gilda_K, Oct 2023
Was a spectacular show. Loves the fire dance. Me and my daughter would come again . ....the food was wonderful. Authentic hawaiian BBQ
Try another Luau

viator is accommodating but the not the tour operator. They didn't even bother to contact Viator to confirm payment and reservation status. They pulled us out of the line to tell us that we need to pay the actual reservation. That dude didn't even try to confirm our reservation with Viator. Very cold reception.
Disappointing
Whitney_B, Sep 2023
Food was mediocre at best. Food was left uncovered with flies flying around and landing on the food so we were barely able to eat. Regular seating is very tight, close together, and uncomfortable. There is an open bar buy it has limited options, is not a full bar, and the drinks are not strong. I had great expectations before arriving as this was supposed to be the best luau in the area and they failed miserably. The best part was the performance but that's about it.

Mediocre buffet food. Open bar yes. The evening is just sat there watching the same 8 people go back stage to change dress and do 5 minute dance representing different islands. Certainly not worth the pricetag
A moment I will never forget

Learning the history and dances of the Island was an awesome experience. The food was excellent as well!!
Great Food and Entertainment, memories that will last a lifetime!
Christopher_C, Sep 2023
We throughly enjoyed the Luau very much, from the fantastic food, wonderful entertainment, and accompanying support staff! We really enjoyed the story and drama of the entertainers, and we learned so much of the history and passion of the Hawaiian people!
A MUST do experience!
Ashley_D, Sep 2023
I did the Ohana ticket option and I was highly impressed with the entire event! Parking was onsite and you get a voucher while there so parking only $5. There was a lot of cool history in the hotel lobby so I suggest you get there early to check it out before the event starts. Check-in was easy and you can purchase leis or kukui necklace at check-in. Once you enter they take your photo, direct you to your seat (long community tables). From there you head to the different buffet tables offering traditional Hawaiian dishes and desserts. I’m a vegetarian and they gave me a voucher for a vegetarian plate- but I ended up not using it as there was plenty of options on the buffet for me! :) The open bar had wine, liquor, beer, specialty cocktails and nonalcoholic options- nice selection! There was also a tattoo table to get a fun little Hawaiian (stamp) tattoo which was unique. The entire staff was super friendly and on point to help with anything. The performances were my favorite part! I LOVED all of the history, songs and dances performed. It was so awesome to get to see each of the different cultures/heritage represented. 10/10! I would do this again just because of how fun it was! :)
Fantastic Event

The food was fantastic and the show was absolutely incredible. So many talented dancers, musicians, and singers. The fire dance was so cool to see in person. Would highly recommend
Only pay for the lowest tier
Phoebe_S, Sep 2023
We paid for the second tier in terms of pricing but didn’t notice any difference in terms of better seating or the order in lining up for food. We didn’t get any kind of lei at all (we were supposed to get nut leis). Food and performance were decent. The fire dancing was really cool.
A must do
Susan_P, Aug 2023
A must do! The food was great, staff helpful and friendly, and the dancers were phenomenal! The way they tell the story of Hawaii is honoring and informative.
It was memorable
Ed_G, Aug 2023
The program was well done as it highlighted the various Polynesian Islands. The performers and host were fantastic. The one negative is that they should set up buffet lines as it was chaotic the way it was set up.
Wounderful entertainment...
Christopher_C, Aug 2023
Wounderful entertainment and food was delicious! Views were spectacular and the royal family arrival was very interesting!
Genuine luau experience
Dillon_O, Aug 2023
The luau was spectacular. The food was delicious and plentiful. The musicians and performers were professional and fun. We all had a great view of the show. We did unfortunately experience credit card fraud when trying to order event pictures. It was third party advertisers associated with their online picture ordering site snagged our info. Not really Island Breezes' fault but dissapointing. Had to cancel our cards. Great luau though.
Trash
chikosi_w, Aug 2023
Food cold, drinks watered down. Bunch of filler singing and dancing for a one man fire show that lasted 5 minutes. Waste of time.
Not what I was expected
Kewonda_C, Aug 2023
The entertainment was wonderful and the open bar was fantastic. I gave it a 3 star because I feel the advertisement is a little deceiving. Travelers go to Luau’s expecting to see a whole roasted pig on the table ready to be viewed and eaten. Instead, there’s chopped and shredded meat of some kind. All the food was buffet style. I feel it should be noted stating that you will not see a whole entire pig expecting to eat.
Nice performances but very disorganized buffet.
Kira_L, Jul 2023
Good music, dancing and history lesson. The buffet was very disorganized. There were no lines, just people pushing through to the tables to get food. Because of that not everyone got a fair amount of each dish. The bar closed early also.
A must to do while in Hawaii
Rosane_G, Jul 2023
Good food and performance. It rained but appreciated the cover ups and good mana all around! Would have liked for the parking to have been included.
Open buffet all you can eat .
Steven_S, Jul 2023
Highly recommended if you like to see dance shows while feasting on the best food on the island. Open buffet, also all you can eat/drink. Best performances I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks again for awesome food/performances.
Soggy Luau
John_G, Jul 2023
The rain was a downer, but the show was still great. The food was not warm, but was still delicious.
Value for $$ was disappointing
Laura_o, Jul 2023
Different elements of the experience rated differently. The night we went it rained and the dinner and show went on. They did provide rain ponchos but everyone was pretty wet by the time they did so. However, I am not rating the experience at all on the weather. The food was a solid 4/5. It’s a shame that it was rained on and watery because it was a good meal. The show was excellent and rated a 5. Very talented performers! Why I rate it down to an overall 3 is they have you arrive at 5:30, you wait in line and within 20 minutes they find you a seat at long tables, packed pretty close together. So we had our food and drinks by 6:00 and are watching the show and it ended around 7:00. The description of the luau indicated it would be at least 2 hours. We were back in our condo within 2 hours. We paid $777.00 for 4 of us. So the VALUE for what we received is about a 2/5. Disappointing. I will again say that the food and show were very good.
