A different kind of food tour (not necessarily my favorite kind)

So, this was different than the food tours I’ve previously done. Instead of going from shop/restaurant to the next and sampling food and learning the history/significance of that food, we just went around the market and grabbed a bunch of items and took it back to an Osteria to eat it. The food was good, but probably would’ve been better had we eaten it hot (the pasta for instance) or not all messy in a bag. The guide was fine. A little strange, but knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. The Osteria was a cool experience because it was super old and traditional.

Beautiful Bologna

After reading the reviews we booked this tour on our first afternoon in Bologna. It was a brilliant idea, I didn’t appreciate how large Bologna is and how beautiful. We now have a good idea on what local dishes we should be ordering. Luca was very informative and has given us a list of places to visit and where to eat for the next few days. Highly recommended.

On our last day in Florence, we decided on a spontaneous visit to Bologna to do this tasting tour. Giuseppe was delightful and showed us some of the city along with arranging the tasting of several types of pasta, aged Parmesan, prosciutto, mortadella, meatballs…it went on until we were full! We saved just enough for his choice of the best dessert Bologna has to offer: the rice cake that the pope once gave to people. It was delicious! This was an excellent use of our time and gave a great taste of Bologna in a short time. Highly recommend, and hopefully you will get Giuseppe or someone just as knowledgeable and friendly.

My wife and I had the pleasure of being guided around the amazing eateries of Bologna by Simone. He was a fantastic host, providing really interesting stories and the history of each dish we ate. We are extremely happy that Simone humored us by speaking in Italian for the majority of the tour. We wanted a genuine experience through which we could improve our Italian so this made it a million times more enjoyable. Grazie tanto, Simone!

A must do while you are in town

What a great time we had with Someone tonight! This tour was worth every bit and he was fantastic. Today was our first day in Bologna and Simone not only taught us about the local food, he taught us about the city and it's history. We got to experience some things that we would have not tried without his guidance and he gave us some great recommendations for the rest of our trip. We had a fun evening and truly appreciate him!

We are experienced travelers and have been on food tours in many cities throughput the world. This was the one of least value. In fact, in the city of great gastronomy. I feel bad for saying this but I feel like I must warn my fellow travelers. Do not book this tour. Better to experience it on your own. Smoking, vegetarian not considered, dirty table, cheap food, no place to eat it, no favorable experience, cheap wine, expensive! Esplora la vita, non essere costretto a farlo!

Tour was just OK. Guide didn't seem to be much of a food lover or know that much about the food beyond the basics. He was just leading us from place to place. I've had much better food tours elsewhere.

Fabulous Food in Bologna

We really enjoyed walking through the market and gathering our treats to eat in the park. Claudia was very personable and customized our food choices since we are pescatarians. She did not know this when we met even though I had notified Viator but we all made the best of it.

The food tour that wasn’t

It’s hard to rate this because our guide was wonderful. But..apparently our original guide was ill? So a replacement was sent. It was not a food tour. I don’t think our guide did food tours maybe ? Only city tours? He was very knowledgeable and we saw a lot but what should have been a 3 hr tour was cut to 2hrs and 15 min and then we were taken for a glass of wine and a meat and cheese board each at the end. He had given us a brief talk about some of the local foods. No 10 tastings. Expensive tour and I feel a bit ripped off actually

Marco is very friendly and know truly typical spots in Bologna. You can definitely taste the difference in products and he will accommodate if you have special requirements. If you are looking for a very authentic experience we would highly recommend to book with Marco.

Lucca, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the food in Bologna. He took us to a number of food vendors in the main ‘Mercado’ or market, as well as other parts of the central city. We were able to taste 4 different Parmasen Reggiano cheeses, which differed by amount of aging ( 24, 36, 40 and 48 months) to taste the differences. We tasted other cheese and meat specialties, and went to an ancient bar that is the only one that only serves wine, and that encourages patrons to bring in their own food (Luca bought food for us to eat there). He also gave us many stories about Bologna history. Bologna has great food and it is valuable to have an expert explain it. We learned a lot, and ate some amazing food. I recommend Lucca’s tour.

It was a great tour and we experienced small samplings of the culinary delights of Bologna but I am not sure we had 10 tastings…although each of the ones we had were delicious!
