What To Expect

After meeting in a central location in Brussels, relax during the scenic journey to Antwerp by air-conditioned coach. Listen as your guide sets the historical scene, offering information on Antwerp’s associations with 17th-century painter, Peter Paul Rubens, and the city's architecturally rich heritage.

On arrival, head straight to the National Redoubt of Belgium, a flagrant fortress used to defend the city in turbulent past times. Stroll the ambient labyrinth of streets and see attractions like the Market Square and Butcher’s Hall. Gaze at the impressive façade of the Cathedral of Our Lady then venture within to admire significant artworks by Rubens; appreciate the delicate beauty of paintings like ‘The Resurrection of the Virgin’ and ‘The Elevation of the Cross’ before enjoying some relaxed free time in the historical heart of the city.

Jasmine was our guide. She was very informative and pleasant. She had to juggle 3 different languages and did it flawlessly. We loved the Reubens paintings and the story of the young girl and her dog who died in the cathedral and were memorialized in front of the church! Great tour!

Too many people and languages in one tour.

The city itself is beautiful Highly recommended. The add, however, says the tour is conducted in English. It fails to mention it is also conducted in French and Spanish. So you end up listening to the tour guide for 5 minutes and then do nothing for 10 minutes. This goes on the entire tour. Do yourself a favor, take a private tour or just explore by yourself. Cheers.

Great tour

Our guide, Jasmine, was exceptional. To cover the people in our tour group, she had to translate into 3 different languages. Jasmine did it with ease although we all know how hard and tedious that must have been. She did a great job and showing us things that we would have easily missed if not with her. She showed hidden areas that of the door were closed, you would have walked right by. Her knowledge of the culture was insightful. I highly recommend this tour.

ZERO experience

All the emails we had received from Viator was for us to arrive at the Brussels City Tour office at 115 pm. We arrived at 117 pm exactly. The tour guide had already left but the bus had not. However, we were not allowed to go with them. To add insult to injury, one of the two ladies at the desk was extremely rude. We used "GetYourGuide.com" for other tours and were very treated. Viator needs to step up here. We are still waiting for a refund from Viator.

Great tour - the right length of time and ample opportunities to see many of the exciting features of Antwerp. For an in-depth visit, you might want an overnight, but for a good introduction to Antwerp and its history, this tour is great. One note, however - I did not find it easy to find the Brussels City Tours office.

Antwerp Half Day - Very Disappointing

This was a very disappointing tour. Our guide was such a grump. He never smiled and was never enthusiastic about anything we saw. He did a good job of translating all his comments into both English and Spanish, but he really never engaged the group or showed any emotion. It was very boring. We had almost 90 minutes of "free time" to eat, which was a waste - we could have been taken to more places. The tour ended almost an hour late because of traffic, which was a shame. My MapQuest showed quicker routes, which the driver did not take. I've taken other Viator trips in other countries which have been excellent. This one was not fun.

I took the tour on 14 April as I wanted to do a day trip from Brussels. Even though I booked the tour in English, the tour was delivered in both English and Spanish language. The tour guide was very traditional in his delivery of information. It was very basic and to the point. We covered the Cathedral of our lady, Grote market, St. John church, Museum aan de Stroom (just panoramic view) and the beautiful Antwerp train station. We just touched based at the sites with hardly any time to spend. It seemed that the rest of the group were bored too with the tour. The tour was nothing over the top, it can be easily done by oneself. The next day I visited Bruges and Gent and had a better day exploring.

This trip was far too short and limited in showing us the sights of Antwerp. I have taken plenty of 'free' walking tours of European cities and those are packed with up to date information about the city's main sights. The tour guide, as pleasant as he was, was not engaging and gave the commentary as though he was reading from a travel guide. It was very expensive for what we got in return.
