What To Expect
Meet your private guide outside your Caen hotel in the morning, where you'll climb into a comfortable minivan for the 1.5-hour drive to the coast through the region of Normandy. Keep an eye on the horizon, as Mont St-Michel rises from its rocky island off the coast. It's instantly recognizable and one of the country's most spectacular sights.
Follow your guide up the cobblestone streets of the village, winding your way up to the abbey that sits at the top. Tour the 8th-century abbey with your private guide, learning more about the history of the place, after which you'll have some time to explore the town independently. Browse the local shops, visit the museum or stop for lunch in one of the village restaurants (own expense). Watch the tides roll in and out around Mont St-Michel, turning it into an island at regular intervals.
Depending on how long you spend at Mont St-Michel, you may have time for a 1-hour stop at another attraction on your way back to Caen. Choose from the towns of Balleroy, Avranches, Bayeux, St-Lô or Villedieu les Poeles, or the Abbey of Cerisy, and specify your preference in the 'Special Requirements' section when you book this tour.
Continue learning about Mont St-Michel in Avranches, which overlooks the abbey's bay. Find out why St-Lô is called the 'Capital of the Ruins.' See Louis XIII's trademark style in Balleroy. Dig into the Roman history of Bayeux. See the handiwork of copper artisans in Villedieu-les-Poeles. Visit the Abbey of Cerisy to see an excellent example of Norman architecture.
At the conclusion of your tour, climb back into the minivan for the return trip to Caen.

To see Mont Saint-Michel was such a highlight. We had a very knowledgeable guide who picked us up at our accommodation at Caen, which was excellent - particularly due to the known strikes in France. The trip to MSM was also wonderful, in the Normandy countryside, so this was a bonus! I think my only disappointment was feeling a bit 'rushed' so we didn't get time to look through the village itself at MSM, in order to make lunch in the tourist village just before you get to the site. There were no language barriers and I am overwhelmed at seeing this, so would definitely recommend other make it a 'bucket list' item. Well worth the trip.

This tour is a must for those visiting the Normandy area. Our guide was wonderful! Very knowledgeable and fun to be with. We couldn't have seen or learned as much without her.

WHile this tour is expensive, I would highly recommend it - it is worth every penny! Our guide, Karine, was very knowledgable about Normandy and Brittany, and the entire trip was filled with her providing information about the area, it's history, and sites we were seeing. Her ability to skirt the crowds and show us things we would otherwise have missed was exceptional. Mont Saint-Michel is an amazing place, but having your own personal encyclopedia of knowledge giving you running commentary on the history and context made it extra special. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a little more from their visit than a drive by photo opp.
