Overview

Observe squirrel monkeys on this trip to Monkey land, deep in the Dominican Republic's jungle. On this half-day tour through local coffee and cacao plantations, then visit the monkey sanctuary and its botanical gardens. We can arrange meeting points for almost anywhere in the area. If you do not see your hotel on the list and you are staying at Bavaro, Punta Cana, Macao, Uvero Alto, Cortecito, Cabeza de Toro or its surroundings, we can arrange a close meeting point to pick you up.

What To Expect

This tour starts with an early morning pick up at your Bavaro or Punta Cana hotel. Get to know your local guide on the way to a typical Dominican country plantation.

Meet the local famers and hear about their organic farming methods, used to cultivate cinnamon, cacao, coffee, and vanilla. Taste coffee or hot chocolate, and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase some of these straight-from-the-source products to take home.

Climb back in your vehicle and ascend a mountain road deep into the jungle. Arrive at Monkeyland, a 5-acre (2-hectare) squirrel monkey habitat managed by a dedicated couple. Follow your guide on a guided tour of the sanctuary, where you have the chance to watch and feed the monkeys. Visit the botanical garden, featuring native trees, plants and flowers, before boarding your vehicle for transport back to your hotel at the end of your tour.

Edy, our tour guide was funny, personable and very knowledgeable! The information in local customs and culture was delivered well! The monkeys were a highlight! Fun but also the situation was also well managed! I would highly recommend this excursion!

Ok experience but it's a lot of walking and talking

The monkey experience was nice. The driver Melvin was good. However the drop off was unorganized. We were the first picked up which meant we should've been the first dropped off.

The pick up was timely. Just getting other passengers who weren't ready was annoying so they should set a cut off time. Not there in 5 mins we leave. I had a toddler up at 6:30am to be there on time. The ride was fun and safe. The experience was amazing. The section for who had other experiences outside the monkey land should be more organized but overall 4.5/5 stars. Would recommend to everyone. Be prepared for a little monkey 🐒 poop and pee. Bring wet wipes for after and please tip the wonderful guides. Thanks Manny blah blah blah and driver Luiz

Full monkey experience with feeding!

We were impressed with Monkeyland it was organized and the children were able to feed the monkeys lots of photo opportunities, the one thing I was disappointed with in the write up as to what to expect said we were to ride in an open air safari bus which was not the case we were taken in a bus that was in really rough shape, you could hardly move thru the bus because it was so tight and when you finally got to your seat your knees touched the back of the seat in front of you and when the bus would hit bumps your knees took a beating! These excursions cost enough they should be able to afford better busses.

Amazing experience! JJ and Nathan were absolutely amazing as our tour guides and drivers. Rafael (Can't remember his monkeyland partners name) were such kind people and you can tell they love what they do. A great experience and definitely want to come back!!

Definitely liked the experience, we recommend. Positive points: -The monkeys are cute, and you can see they aren't trained or domesticated (which is a good thing). They are use to the humans presence when food is provided, so they jump everywhere and fun to watch. You are asked not to pet them or touch them as they are still wild animals. -The guides are nice, reassuring and well present. -The coffee / cacao / coco production was one of the best presentation we had during our vacations. -The products prices were the most affordable we found during our vacation. -The transport both ways was on time and went well. Note: -The monkeys come from South America, and they created a new reserve in Dominican Republic

Pick up van was on time, our driver was Nelson, and our guide was Ruddy! I was impressed with how much knowledge Ruddy displayed. He knew something important about every place that people were from. He was also very funny! Absolutely loved his energy. Tour was amazing. Definitely got up close and personal with monkeys galore on our heads and shoulders. Nice tour learning how coffee is made and also got a sample of mammajuana! 10/10 recommend this excursion if you are visiting Punta Cana.

The monkeys!! They were a blast!! So cute and friendly, they just wanted to eat. Jumping on heads, shoulders and arms picking up the food where ever they could. All the tour guides were very professional, knowledgable and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Go go go!!!! This has to be one of the best excursions. This is honestly a cultural tour as well. You'll visit a beautiful location in the jungle, get a history lesson if your guide is ANGEL, and you'll spend time with squirrel monkeys.

This was an unbelievable experience! Our guide, Carlos, and driver, Oscar, were great and funny. The demo and tastings of the coffee, chocolate and Mamajuana was very interesting and fun. But the monkeys were amazing. There were so many of them and all over us. We got so many awesome pictures and learned a lot about them. I highly recommend to everyone.

The trip up to the location of monkeyland was very interactive. I learned a lot about the local culture just on the drive over. The monkey interaction was the best part, they climb all over you and you are given multiple chances to feed them. After that the coffee/chocolate making tutorial was very interesting and the taste test was even better. All of the tour guides make you feel at home. Would definitely recommend this to anyone thinking about it.

I really enjoyed this excursion. I love animals but I do not like supporting zoos so it was refreshing to see monkeys in a safe environment. The staff is very clear about us respecting the monkeys. I did notice little injuries here and there but overall the monkeys seem to be thriving. Santiago was also a very kind and informative tour guide. He could speak English, French, and Spanish fluently which was super impressive. The gift shop is very expensive, but they accept Apple pay which is convenient. I recommend monkey land highly. Do. not forget to bring cash to tip. I didn’t get to tip Santiago and I regret it, so if you see this me message me your Paypal. Thank you.
