What To Expect

After leaving central Florence by air-conditioned coach, journey into the beautiful Tuscan countryside with your guide. Travel past the olive groves, vineyards, and rolling hills of one of the most prestigious winemaking regions in the world.

Stop for the visit to a distinguished wine estate, where you tour the historic cellars. Learn the winemaker’s secrets as you see where the grapes are crushed, and where the wine is matured and bottled.

Then, get to tasting—enjoy a glass of Chianti Classico, Chianti Reserve, Tuscan dessert wine, or a prominent white wine. Learn the complex characteristics of each from your guide while you taste.

Afterward, head to the medieval village of Greve, where the most important wine fair of the Chianti region is held each year. Explore the main square and peruse the local artisan shops.

Continue to a family-run winery. Take a guided tour of the cellars from the winemaker before heading to the garden, where a tasting of wines and local products are waiting for you.

Then make your way to Castellina, a hilltop village characterized by its large fortress and Etruscan settlements. Stroll past the medieval street of Via delle Volte and explore the local shops and squares before making your way back to Florence with your guide.

Traveler Tips

Give more time in Castilla, the parking is far, and only the walking distance to the Main Street you have to go back to the bus!!!
If your plan is to get drunk, you probably either want one of the more expensive wine tours, or supplement your intake in Greve.

Disappointed
Cessie_A, Mar 2023
Very disappointing tour. Our first stop at Riseccoli was a rush marathon. The wine tasting was on their patio standing with very little information or pairing. The second winery Poggio Amorelli was an amazing wine tasting experience. Viator should remove their stop from Riseccoli and consider other wineries that would make the wine tours more enjoyable for visitors who want their experience in the Chianti Region to be more like Poggio Amorelli, where you actually sit, the wines are explained with bites pairing.
Chianti tour March
Martha_O, Mar 2023
I must say my first time in the Chianti region, the first bodega we came to was awful. Everything was rush like a marathon!!! The second stop was much better and very well explained. Our tour guide Lisa and Alesando were awesome and amazing. Great employees!!!!
A perfect way to enjoy the best of Chianti .
Nitin_A, Mar 2023
Since we are from India and exploring Chianti requires in depth knowledge of the region, we booked a half day tour via VIator. The guide was perfect, bus was excellent driving by a charming driver. The tour covered 2 vineires. The onwer/people at eh vineyard hosted us perfectly allowing us to have adequate time to enjoy wine and the scenery outside. A memorable tour for us
We booked a wine tour for...
Carter_C, Mar 2023
We booked a wine tour for the 7 of us 2 days out. We got up and all got ready, walked the 30+ minutes to the bus stop just to tell us it’s cancelled. They had overbooked and could not accommodate us. There was no communication about this matter
Great wine and hosts
Louis_S, Mar 2023
The history of wine making in Chianti and the two wineries we visited were great Lovely people Beautiful countryside views
Wonderful experience
Tracy_W, Mar 2023
We had a lovely experience. I especially appreciated the wine and vinegar pairing tastings offered at each winery. I would recommend this for an easy afternoon activity.
It was a great afternoon!...

We stopped at TWO wine makers. Both was quite nice. I would highly recommend this tour. "The TV Man"
Walking
Kim_T, Mar 2023
The wineries were both very nice. I would not recommend walking on the side of the winery in a ton of mud. It ruins your shoes. Don’t understand why we couldn’t walk up the driveway as we were able to walk down the driveway.
Australians in Chianti!
Isabella_C, Feb 2023
Sara and her two lovely drivers (sorry I forgot their names!) - they made our afternoon fun! Sara's personality was very friendly and took the awkwardness out of how some tours can be! Greve was a lovely little town and the two wineries were very nice and picturesque - even in winter! My partner and I came all the way from Australia for an afternoon in the Tuscan hills and we both had a wonderful experience! The group size was very nice too, not too big and you were able to chat among each other!
Nice afternoon but some pointless activities.
Priya_S, Feb 2023
The wine tasting was nice and the views were also lovely. The first one could have been a bit more social though - we all sat in rows (theatre style) but tables would have been a better experience. The second winery did tables and it was a more enjoyable and social experience - the snacks were also better. There was a visit to the Greve village in between the wineyards which felt really pointless as it was so dead - most of the restaurants and shops were closed so we just walked around waiting for the allocated time to finish. This activity could have been reduced or removed altogether, to allow us more time at either or both wineyards. That being said, it was a nice afternoon and convenient with the transport all sorted too.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Good morning from Caf, we regret that you didn't appreciate the first wine tasting. They are renewing the room and the tables are coming. Anyway thanks for your feedback. Regarding the stop in Greve, we know that some shops are closed in this period because some shops and restaurants are closed for holidays during the winter season. But Greve is a nice little town in which clients could have a walk, take an ice cream or buy a typical local product. Thanks. regards
Instructions not clear
Andrew_F, Jan 2023
We went to the meeting place it said to wait at the bus stop and someone with a blue coat would be there to meet us and there was no one there we asked a man who was working in the booth and he told us it was across the street and when we went across the street we saw our bus drive past. Instructions were not clear enough and there was no one to meet us and wasted 80 euros.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Good morning from Caf, we regret that you were in trouble finding the meeting point. If you write us an email to info@caftours.com telling us your last name, date of the travel and the booking reference number, we can check your reservation and the information written in your voucher. On the voucher it's written also our emergency phone number to call in case client is late or if needs help to reach the meeting point, even if the indications on the voucher are clear. At the meeting point there are always our assistants with blue jacket with Caf logo on it ,waiting for clients. When the last tour has gone, the assistant goes away, so probably when you arrived you didn't find anybody because the tour had started. We wait for your email in order to understand what happened. Thanks.
Wonderful half day trip
Danielle_G, Dec 2022
Marco took us to two very wonderful and different wineries. We had an absolutely wonderful time. We even stopped by an amazing view point that took our breath away. I would highly recommend this trip.
Preferred winery #2
Aliris_L, Dec 2022
Overall I enjoyed the tour. The 2nd winery was a lot better then the 1st one! The location of the 2nd winery was great and our guide was so informative and passionate.
Worth It!
Sarak134, Nov 2022
Marco was amazing and absolutely loved him for this tour. I was not impressed with the first vineyard as it felt as if we were rushed and the wine tasting portions were too small. Loved the second wine tasting location and Francesca was great in her explaining of the wines and balsamic. In addition, we had an elderly person on the trip and the vineyard was kind enough to have a car pick them up from the bottle of the hill. The town visit of Greve was beautiful and I absolutely enjoyed the 5 hour tour which is perfect for a short stay in Florence.
You won’t regret taking this tour!
Nichole_C, Nov 2022
Such an awesome experience! Everything was right on time, and our guide was great. The drive out and the wineries were stunning. We had ample time for photos and exploring at each stop. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants a Tuscan adventure that’s the perfect amount of time.
Great afternoon at Chianti
deblina_m, Nov 2022
Marko the tour guide was exceptional. We had a wonderful tasting session at both the wineries. Overall 5 stars
Chianti wine tour left us with limited taste for the region
Michael_T, Nov 2022
There were only two vineyards visited (instead of the usual three advertised online), because we took the tour off season but there was no discount for a lesser itinerary. The first vineyard was okay, but we learned virtually nothing about the place because the sweet young girl provided by the vineyard only served us wine and snacks and did not explain anything at all. We walked through the room with the barrels in silence; that was the extent of the vineyard tour and information. The representative at the second vineyard was very personable and informative, and we enjoyed our time with him at his vineyard. He really was excellent. We were also disappointed by the tour guide on the bus, who again, told us only bare minimum facts. She spent more time on her cell phone than she did interacting with us. We noticed that no one tipped her at the end of the tour. Apart from this, the tour left and returned on time.
What a waste!
smokee39, Nov 2022
The tour was horrible … the tour guide was worse & the snorting bus driver was horrendous. Tour started out at the bus station … tour guide never introduced herself … bus driver non emotional and did not utter a word. We drove for 45 minutes in silence as the tour guide spoke non stop on her phone. If we asked a question she was annoyed because it interrupted her conversation. First winery a total waste … a thimbleful of wine … not discussion about the winery & then we were escorted back to the bus … dropped off in a town for lunch. Entire town closed except for 1 restaurant … what was the point of stopping at a closed town? The only highlight was that the restaurant was really good. Next stop was 2nd winery which I’m sure was wonderful but I had to stay on the bus with another woman who also could not walk up the very dangerous road we were told we needed to walk up … no way! I asked the driver if he could drive us up the hill so we could join the tour … his response … No! So we stayed parked on the wrong side of the road facing on coming traffic for about 45 minutes. We sat in a cold dark bus while the driver snored & farted while he slept. This was a horrible situation and the guide & driver should be fired and my $$ should be returned. The point of the trip was to enjoy local wines while learning how the winery operated. None of this happened and my experience was horrible. I have used Viator for other tours that were wonderful but this was terrible! My money $$$ should be refunded and the tour guide & driver should lose their employment. This was a horrible tour!
