What To Expect

Cinque Terre is one of Italy’s most captivating landscapes. Translated as ‘five lands,’ the region is made up of five unique fishing villages that line the Italian Riviera.

Your day trip begins in central Florence, where meet your guide and hop aboard your coach to head out toward the seashore. Stop first in the southernmost village of Riomaggiore, which dates back to the 13th century. Beloved for its local wine and incomparable scenery, admire the pastel-colored buildings as you follow your guide along the cobblestone streets.

Head to the tiny village of Manarola next, home to medieval relics and a plethora of grapevines. Stroll the harbor and take snapshots of the beautiful, bright buildings that cling to the cliff.

Then, weather permitting, hop aboard your boat to travel to Monterosso. If you choose to include lunch with your ticket, settle down in one of the village’s restaurants for a traditional helping of seafood and pasta, complemented by wine and water. (A sample menu can be found in the Itinerary section.)

Afterward, with taste buds and stomach sated, enjoy some time to explore independently. Unpack your bathing suit and hit the jeweled waters of Monterosso’s stunning beaches.

Make a final stop in Vernazza, bordered by terraced olive groves that are said to produce some of the finest olive oil in Italy. Explore the bustling square and winding streets at your leisure, before returning back to Florence.

Note: Cinque Terre low-cost option does not include train and boat tickets.

Philipa was an excellent guide along with her skilled driver for our trip to Cinque Terre. She was engaging, informative and animated and kept everyone on track of where they were to be during the day. A brilliant day. Thank you. Chris and Marilyn Walsh.

Severe weather alert for...
Pareese_Y, Jun 2023
Severe weather alert for day of travel requested a reschedule. Was told Viator would not accept. Trip might have been slippery & dangerous, besides miserable &surprised it was not canceled. Lost +$200. Very unhappy.
Memorable trip !

Lovely scenery and places to visit. Really crowded place but a great experience. Put on comfy clothes and shoes! ;)
The highlight of my trip
Kathleen_H, Jun 2023
Picturesque coastline , the boat ride and fabulous restaurant where we had lunch. The weather was perfect and the two guides did well to keep over 70 people organised
Beautiful views!
Susan_J, Jun 2023
Stunning scenery along the way and in Cinque Terre. Well-organized day by Hillary who communicated clearly exactly where we needed to be and when. Driver navigated us through some heavy traffic, and got us to and fro safely.
Sunday funday in Cinque Terre

The tour was great. Our host guide Elizabetha was very knowledgeable. We had plenty of time to explore the villages. Highly recommend this tour.
Everything was so...
Mandy_W, Jun 2023
Everything was so absolutely gorgeous! I loved having it organized for us all and couldn’t have done it without a tour guide! Jacob was wonderful. The only thing was, we didn’t love all of the crowds. It was so packed with people.
Lost and found
Stacie_S, Jun 2023
The places we went to were beautiful. Unfortunately our tour guide was very disorganized and did not give good instructions nor an itinerary. Half the group got lost several times throughout the day making it difficult to fully enjoy each location without being rushed.
Beautiful but CAUTION
Sara_E, Jun 2023
Jacobo did an excellent job guiding a tour without use of private transport on a busy holiday weekend. The tour was quite lovely, and I did not rate low for those reasons. That being said, this is a potentially dangerous situation during peak travel. There is a coach to and from, and it was comfortable. Public transport was overfull, and then some, for the date, and many other groups were also trying to stuff themselves onto trains. There were no seats, and we were very tightly packed while standing so that I felt I could not breathe. I thought I might die (not being dramatic) when a local person very assertively got people up the stairs and between seats. I do believe that person saved lives, as anyone who was stuck inside the doors had no options for moving. It is poor planning on the part of the company that Viator contracts this with not to have an alternate route or plan for high traffic times. For safety, it would be good to teach all tourist groups at the beginning of tours not to stand by doors on trains, but to walk up aisles between the seats. It is so dangerous as more and more people get on, but easily remedied if you are not stuck in the doorways. I am very concerned that someone may be killed this summer. The group was separated due to not fitting at one stop. Buyer should be aware that this is a trip that uses a coach to and from Florence/Spezia but utilizes public transport without reserved seats the rest of the time. This is fine for an adventurous person, who may be able to handle themselves, but not ideal for a family during a peak season. A fully outfitted tour be more appropriate for the elderly or families.
Incredible
Abel_M, Jun 2023
Absolutely incredible! Tour guide was outstanding and informed us of a lot. The schedule and how you get from the different 5 lands of Cinque Terre is really good and punctual. However I suggest if you go Absolutely make sure to be at the train station 10-20 minutes early. You will encounter a lot of people making it difficult to get on your train that will take you to the different lands. Definitely make sure to try the food in Montrosso, do the trail up the mountainside, and the beach as well in Montrosso as well as try the wines of Cinque terre especially make sure to try the SCIACCHETRA' wine and drink the lemonciallo liquor while there in Cinque terre.
Hectic trip but beautiful
Debra_M, Jun 2023
Cinque Terre was beautiful. I wish ciao of Florence was a bit more organized with the guided tour. It was a bit hectic but overall we had a wonderful time. Long day. Be prepared it’s very hard to find or use a bathroom and it’s a 11 hour trip.

Great trip, knowledgeable guide and well organized considering all the logistics required to make the trip happen.
Would not recommend
Halee_M, Jun 2023
I would not recommend this tour. Cinque Terre was beautiful; however, our tour guide was awful. First, she changed the color of the flag without notifying the group. Second, she did not give clear instructions regarding the train and stops. I wouldn’t spend the money and would just go on your own.
Long bus ride
jhhkbd7bzc, Jun 2023
It was a long bus ride back to Florence. I would have rather taken the train because it would have been faster. We got stuck in traffic. Guide was pleasant, but sometimes overbearing and we couldn’t hear her on the bus.
So worth it
Edith_G, May 2023
Martha was very attentive to details, she made sure that everyone was accounted for before hopping on to the next train. It was kind of fast paced but the beautiful view was so worth it. Thanks to our efficent driver too Boris for keeping us safe. Will recommend.

Awesome Cinque Terre Day Trip
Gargi_D, May 2023
The tour guides Ana and Dani were exceptional and their communication and the way they organised the trip was excellent. We were part of a big group and had a great time. The lunch was very delicious as well. The 4 villages we visited were beautiful and the boat ride was great. We got some tips about each place and all staff were very freindly.
Bucket list ✅ #CinqueTerre #Italy

We enjoyed this tour very much!!! Luca, Sebastian and Filippa (not sure if I have the correct spelling of their names) were fantastic!!! Gracie mille ❤️
Just ok
Cathy_G, May 2023
This tour was too big to handle people with different mobility issues and trying g to get everyone on the same trains and not too much time in each of the places. Our tour guide was so fast…half the time I did t even see him. Lunch was delicious and the area surrounding us was beautiful.
Fillipa Sebastian and...
Linda_P, May 2023
Fillipa Sebastian and Luka were fabulous! Very helpful and gracious Definitely was helpful having assistance with navigating the Cinque Terre.
Great tour
Hector_N, May 2023
Sara and the English guide (forgot name) were excellent. They were to handle our large crowd with no incidents. The tour is very complicated due to all the changes and the volume of tourists visiting Cinca Terre, but they handle everything very well
My experience
Saadia_Z, May 2023
Too large of a group . The guides were good but I think having 3 guides for this size of a group would have been better . Tried to cover a lot felt rushed. Would recommend doing private of 3 villages to get more out of it . The lunch with the tour was poor quality . For the same amount could have had a better lunch in one of the restaurants
Good tour but summer is too crowded
Lillia_A, May 2023
The tour was nice and the tour guides were very helpful and organized. But be advised visiting in the summer is crazy!! The trains are packed like sardines and crowds make long lines everywhere! Not the tours fault at all they handled it very well! Overall would not recommend visiting in summer!
Way too many stops
Joan_L, May 2023
Sebastian did a great job, very caring person. Made friends with 2 ladies and on last and one fell on last stop. Everyone helpful and kind. Sebastian very caring and there. I thought getting on and off trains 6 times and 15 minute boat ride was way too stressful and not the way to see that area. I would have loved one or two stops would have been great. Enjoy some beach time and really explore one town. It was just running after and waiting in line half the day. Has discouraged me from any doing any more tours. Also had to get a taxi home. Walk 10 blocks wait at a train station 100’s in line. Didn’t get home till after 11:00
Great Experience
Christine_B, May 2023
The villages of Cinque Terre did not disappoint. They were even better than I had imagined. We took the option of using the train and boat to travel between the villages but there was still a lot of walking within the villages (as we had expected there would be). You need to be able to walk up and down a lot of hills and steps. The trip is a bit rushed, but we found we had enough time to see the highlights and get a feel for the area. We chose the included lunch, but if I were to do the trip again I would not do that. The lunch was good and it was nice to get to know the other people in the group, but because it was a big group and a three courses meal, it cut down on our time in the village.
Very beautiful place to visit. A must if one visits Florence
alisha_k, May 2023
We had a very good guide who took us on quieter but prettier trails to enjoy the beautiful towns. Roberto was considerate on the older folks also. After trip he also told us about the mountains as we passed by
Great day
Carol_M, May 2023
Kudos to Roberto and our bus driver. The day was well managed and he did an amazing job wrangling a large group in very crowded towns. With Roberto’s knowledgeable insights we were able to enjoy all that each town had to offer including Roberto’s short walks to the hidden terraces. Overall the experience was amazing
Great 12 hours
Frank_G, May 2023
Great day out, great guides and bus driver. The villages are fantastic and it was the best part of our four day break. I would opt for no lunch option when booking as the restaurant you are taken to was so disappointing. Food was poor and service diabolical.
Mixed feelings
Jann_O, May 2023
Make sure that you are aware of two things. *This is an escorted tour, not fully guided and * if you have mobility issues this tour may be very challenging. We noted this for some other travellers, as there are a lot of stairs and uneven walkways, particularly when accessing ferries and the train. The villages and sights were so beautiful and accessing by ferry enhanced this. The guides take you to the villages and then confirm the time and place to leave, allowing you to explore at leisure. The coach was not what we expected as some seating was backward facing with a table between passengers. The train travel was “sardine-like” with as many passengers as possible jammed in. I have never been so squashed in with no personal space - certainly not for anyone claustrophobic! This is of course no fault of this tour company, but not a pleasant element of the tour. Due to issues with the train timetable, we were much later back than anticipated. The region itself was very picturesque.
Great experience if not for the lunch.
Suleyman_S, May 2023
The only bad thing anyone can say is the lunch option. Stay away from it, it's not only horrible but also costs you a lot of time. Everything else was perfect also our guide Sara was really helpful.
