    What To Expect

    Your journey from Florence to the Cinque Terre starts by coach, where you can relax as your guide shares stories about the area. You'll hear tales about the Tuscan city of Lucca and its famous resident Puccini, before learning about the Cinque Terre and its five fishing villages—Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso and Riomaggiore—that form the national park.

    After a short, two-hour drive, you'll begin your hike through the Cinque Terre on the hills above Manarola. With your guide to help lead you, you'll follow a scenic trail to Corniglia, which culminates in a steep climb of some 382 steps. Note: This charming region is natural and untouched, so there are no hand rails or safety rails, and paths often cut close to the cliff's edge. (if you choose the tour option without hiking, the train will be used instead to move between villages).

    Once in Corniglia, you'll enjoy some free time where you can relax and refuel with these spectacular views, before continuing your journey with a hike to Vernazza, where you'll pass terraces of olive groves and colorful bars and cafes. Take a dip in the bay before heading to Monterosso by train, where you'll have free time to explore the beaches, wine shops and artisan goods famous to the village.

    The final portion of your journey will include a boat ride (or train ride, depending on weather) to Riomaggiore, a village known for its candy-colored houses, as well as a final hike back to Manarola. Your day trip from Florence to the Cinque Terre ends with a coach ride back to the city.

    • In case of unexpected closure of the paths for unforeseen events, alternative routes will be taken instead for those doing the hiking
    • A large amount of walking is involved for those doing the hiking. You must be of average fitness and be able to keep up with the rest of the group.
    • Due to uneven surfaces, this tour is not recommended for those with walking difficulties, below average fitness, or young children.

    I recommend the Cinque Terre all day trip enthusiastically! Our tour guides were so careful to keep us well informed every step of the way about train protocol in the towns, history, culture, food (seafood especially), shopping, gelato. The scenery is spectacular. Some of the group went with guides on the hike, while others went with a guide by very short train rides between towns, and we visited all 5 towns! Us train riders got wonderful views even without the trail walking. Our trip was early in the season, so we couldn’t have the boat excursion … I’m sure that portion will be wonderful for those of you who will have the opportunity. My small group had Generva (so?) as our guide and she was lovely, caring, and so well-informed. Funny think: She taught me how to pronounce “pistacchio “ correctly, and when I ordered gelato in Venice days later, the fellow at the counter complimented me for the best pronunciation of the word by an American that he had heard this year! Thanks, Generva, for everything!

    Cinque Terre is absolutely beautiful! The tour is a very long day given the bus ride there and back is quite long. Even if you are not hiking, there is a lot of walking and stairs. I recommend hiking (get the frozen lemonade at the top, it is worth the wait!). The ferry ride was an absolutely perfect way to end the day! Wish we had more time to spend in each town, but there is only so much time in the day... Highly recommend going to Cinque Terre, but next time we will allow for more time and stay in one of the towns.

    The Oceanside villages were gorgeous. We did the hike, it was tough but definitely worth it. The hike was about 45 minutes straight up , had a refreshing lemon slush with orange then traveled downhill. We also went with the lunch offered by the tour. So glad we did the outside terrace was just beautiful, food was good. Our tour guides were friendly and informative. Definitely would recommend this tour.

    The landscape is beautiful and you get to visit all the 5 towns. I recommend to go for the hiking for a good view and the adventure. The guides Ado and Marco were simply brilliant from the Walkabout tour company and really took good care of everyone.

    Cinque Terre is as beautiful as they say but you are in for a challenging day if you take this tour. Lots of walking on hard, uneven ground, often at a serious incline, and that's if you skip the hiking option. The streets are narrow and incredibly crowded. We expected crowds but our experience was crazy. Trains were standing room only and we basically raced from village to village. To reach our lunch destination we had to climb more than 250 steps up the side of a hill at noon on a very sunny day with a temperature around 78 degrees. My wife sprained her knee at some point and spent the rest of the day hobbling along trying to keep up with the tour as we raced from point to point. Her Apple Watch told her that she logged almost 20,000 steps that day. Be honest about your level of fitness.
    Too crowded to enjoy. Visit two towns max.

    Due to the crowds, a trip to all 5 towns is overrated. We spent the majority of our time on the bus and in train stations/trains. The towns are all beautiful, but the restaurants were all full and the streets were jammed. Our tour guides worked very hard and were wonderful, but 20-30 minutes in each town in a 13-hour day was too little benefit. The towns on either end are the largest, so our recommendation is to take the train to the beginning and skip the three towns in the middle.

    It was pretty cool to go through all the towns. It's a great area and just a really cool place overall. The bus ride out was comfortable and it was easy to find in the morning. This is actually a super fast day though. You don't spend very long in any one of the towns, but that's the trade off for doing it in 1 day. The guides can go kind of fast and you mind end up missing some information. We missed the lunch at one of the towns cause we only caught the end of the instructions. You are able to do whatever you want, don't have to stay with the group or anything, and we didn't realize he was telling the people who were not going to eat with the group to meet after they ate. Kind of disappointing that we missed it just cause we were at the back of the group and didn't hear the first part of instruction. The boat ride at the end was really cool though. And you get some time to walk through/buy items from the area. The only free bathrooms are at the train station. And not easy to find other ones so make sure you manage the timing that part ha.

    My family of four had a wonderful day on this day trip. It was first class organization and amazing tour guides. Ginevra and Parisa, (hope I spelled their names right) were first class. I have challenges because of a bad knee, and they both kept an eye on me the whole trip, giving me suggestions on how to make things easier and also some alternatives in case it got too tough. The tour was tight with time, but yet you still had lots of opportunities to roam in the different towns. They were a well oiled machine with the agenda. We got to swim and take a boat. The day was taxing if you are not athletic, but you definitely can push through it. I suggest walking sticks, they helped me a lot. My boys took the hike and loved the views that they were able to see. Definitely worth it when you look at the incredible pictures you will take. Definitely take this tour!

    A brilliantly organised trip with fantastic tour guides. Victoria and Adi were so lovely and worked tirelessly throughout the trip. Each village we had spare time and the hike was hardwork but worth it for the views. It was a boiling hot day so a hat and plenty of water needed for the hot sun. I would highly recommend this trip.

    What a trip! It was a fantastic, activity-packed, exhausting day! Our guides were Ado and Ginevra and they were wonderful: knowledgeable, friendly, upbeat and organized. Everything was on time, well explained and well managed. We took the hiking option, which was worth every drop of sweat for the views. Lunch (at an extra, but reasonable cost) was in a beautiful spot with a stunning vista and was tasty, too. Along the hike we stopped for a freshly squeezed lemon-orange slushy, which we totally recommend! Delicious! Yes, there were crowds everywhere, but we still managed to take two busses, four trains and a boat, plus a couple of hours of hiking, without a hitch. Had just enough time to do a bit of shopping, sit for an Aperol spritz and dip our feet in the ocean along the way. Wear comfortable shoes!

    The trip was a nice overview of the 5 small towns. It did, however, feel rushed. In hindsight I would prefer to visit one or two of the towns and spend more time exploring, enjoying a swim, or people watching while enjoying a drink. It felt as though most of the day was spent traveling on buses, trains, and boats. The hike was nice, but definitely challenging for some. The guides did a nice job of moving everyone along given the circumstances of the trip.

    Had a wonderful time. Ado and David were great guides. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and remember everyone’s names! I highly recommend this trip. It is such a beautiful area and very interesting history. Lots of walking but we were able to choose whether we wanted to take the train or hike and could decide at the time.

    Ado and Ginny were fantastic tour guides. It was a long day but worth it. We got to see the 5 towns in one day. It was very well organised. A good mix of free time too. The views were amazing!     Kia and Tony were both fantastic guides, both were personable and knowledgeable. We didn’t see much of the last village but the guides were well prepared to make changes to the schedule when necessary that helped us to have a good time and still see the maximum of sights that time would allow. We were able to the boat ride, visit each village as we wanted to. There was plenty of laughter to go around. We would highly recommend this tour and these two guides.

    Amazing day trip! You get to see so much and they let you have enough freedom and free time to do what you want. We were with the group for the first couple towns but then ventured off on our own, with the time and destination to meet up at for the end of the day. Kiara (Kia) was an amazing guide who was very knowledgeable and made the experience even better. Highly recommend doing if you have a whole day to see the beautiful towns.
