Matteo was fabulous! A knowledgeable and welcoming sommelier who shared his passion for wine. A delicious charcuterie board accompanied our wines and Matteo added a bonus olive oil tasting. Enoteca is an incredible wine bar and shop. I have never seen anything like it!

Enoteca Alessi is a fantastic place to shop for wine, liquors, and gourmet snacks like “BaBa Al Ruhm “ but don’t waste your time or money on the Wine, Cheese, and olive oil tastings promoted on Viator and operated by Fat Tire Tours. We had a very disappointing experience for the €40 per person we paid for this. We tasted 3 wines, 2 cheeses (actually just pecorino cheese, one young and one aged), some prosciutto and some salami on a board and a little olive oil on some dried bread. Quantity aside, the “expert sommelier” just tried to just give us the wine and cheese and get rid of us. He gave us the wine, recited a script, and then took off, Same with the cheese board and olive oil. The other table that was guided by someone from Fat Tire Tours had a much better presentation than we had from the Enoteca Alessi employee who was supposed to be an expert sommelier.

Hi Dan, my sincere apology that this wine tasting experience left you disappointed. We have been working with Alessi in various capacities for many years, but this particular collaboration is new and unfortunately it appears that not all of their sommeliers are able to offer the kind of experience that we demand... not yet anyway! We are meeting with the management to make sure that nobody is left disappointed in the future.

We got 3 very small glasses of wine instead of 4 and we didn’t sample any olive oils. Also, the tour stated that we would try different kinds of cheeses and it was only two cheese options. After 5 minutes the guide was done and he left, we finished the 3 sips of wine in 20 minutes and that was it. Very disappointing for the €80,- we paid for this

Hi Tobias, I am so sorry to read this. It is unacceptable that the sommelier didn't stay for the whole experience and that you received less than advertised. Our regular sommelier was not available but that is no excuse - the stand in should know better. I will look into it and make sure this doesn't happen again. Once more: My sincerest apologies for the disappointment.

I enjoyed this experience and learned some new things about local wine and cheese. The presenter was very knowledgeable and approachable, and the setting was conducive. It was a very small group the day I went, so it was quite personal - I think the group size is always kept low, so I'm sure it would be fine. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Florence, that may not have time to make it out to the any of the wineries. This was a great way to experience some of the local wines while staying right in the city!
