What To Expect

Your trip will begin at the Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence, where you’ll meet your guide. Then hop aboard and enjoy the 1-hour train ride from Florence to Pisa.

Once there, head to Piazza dei Miracoli with your guide, where you’ll find the Duomo, the Baptistery and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Enjoy 1.5 hours to explore these top attractions independently.

Afterward, return to the train station to head toward La Spezia, switching trains toward Riomaggiore just over an hour later. Here you’ll enter the beloved Cinque Terre, comprising five villages along the Italian Riviera.

Hop off to stroll the charming streets with your guide. The buildings along each fishing village are brilliantly colored in pinks, yellows and blues and make a stunning backdrop for your photos.

Continue by train to the village of Manarola, which is rumored to have more grapevines than any other Cinque Terre town. Check out the harbor before heading to your final stop, the village of Vernazza. Here you can enjoy time to explore on your own, jumping into the waters of the Riviera or taking in some rays at the beach.

After a full day of exploration, travel back to Florence by train, where your tour concludes.

Day trip done wrong!!
Sue_A, May 2023
Unfortunately the whole experience was rushed and stressful in the backdrop of beautiful sites. We rushed to catch the overcrowded trains one after another and when we got to our destination we had very little time to enjoy each site. This whole activity needs to be redone!! If money is the main deciding factor, consider increasing the fee for more superior service including higher quality train rides.
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear Sue, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent tour experience. Based on the information you provided, it seems that you took the tour last week, during a period when there was significant maintenance work on the train railways. This resulted in delays and a reduced number of available trains (instead of having 3 trains per hour, there was only one connecting train every 2 hours). Considering the high rate of visitors during that time and the fact that you can move around only by train or ferry, the trains became overcrowded, leading to limited time at each destination. We want to assure you that this was an exceptional occurrence and not typical of our usual tour experience. Feedback from our other clients indicates that the tour generally runs smoothly, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable exploration of the sites. It's important to note that the train route we use is the only option available to reach the scenic Cinque Terre, there are no higher-level of trains or higher-quality transport between the villages. In our tour description, we do mention that the tour may be fast-paced due to our reliance on trains, and unforeseen circumstances or delays may occur. While we understand your disappointment with the limited time at each site, we strive to make the best use of the available train schedules even though we want to clarify that we do not have direct control over the train services or their availability. We appreciate your valuable input as it helps us continuously improve our tours and meet our customers' expectations. We kindly request that you reach out to us directly so that we can further discuss your specific experience and find a suitable resolution. Your satisfaction is of utmost importance to us, and we want to ensure that your concerns are addressed appropriately. We also would love to have you with us again in the future in order to have the real experience we promise. Kind regards Jane
Must see/do tour!
Carolyn_A, May 2023
This is a must tour if you are anywhere near Florence! Our tour guide Julia was incredible! Knowledgeable, friendly and personable. It was our favorite tour in Italy! Highly recommend!!
Fantastic
Katherine_K, May 2023
Great experience Private tour Elizabeth was amazing Great trip ! Lots of walking , make sure you wear comfortable shoes, May is best time to visits, local trains get super crowded, I wish we have more time to spend there.
Beautiful sites, in addition to Pisa
JORDAN_M, Apr 2023
Overall the tour was great. Julia was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and was able to bring all of the sites and locations to life. The group was very large, however Julia (with help from Christina) did a great job of keeping the group together and ensuring we were where we needed to be at all times. She opened up the tour by having each group in the tour do an intro, which allowed us all to connect much easier. Julia provided background on the sites and the places, and provided helpful tips for specific locations to visit at each stop (i.e. food, scenic locations, etc.). In addition, she provided very helpful perspective regarding restaurants and sites to consider during our stay in Florence. Overall we had a great experience on this tour. Thank you.
Spend the extra $25 to go to trip advisor tour
Jessika_R, Oct 2022
It’s a budget trip but it’s honestly worth it to spend an extra $25 to get a more price / personalized trip not only that but you’ll get to see more beautiful places that you truly don’t want to miss out on! It’s just not worth it over $20-25
Beautiful!
reedegurc, Oct 2022
Trip was amazing! We got to see so much keep in mind you are walking and moving a lot! Around 20,000 steps and you must take public transport! Long day but very worth it! Our guide was even nice enough to make us a reservation at our favorite steak house (now) in Florence!
Trip cancelled and still waiting for the refund
Onil_B, Oct 2022
The trip was cancelled unexpectedly due to lack of participants. Viator has not still made the refund. This is very unpleasant.
Lovely
Sarah_M, Oct 2022
We had a wonderful time with a great guide! As you could expect each stop in the cities in Cinque Terre were rushed as you need to catch the next train, but I guess that’s why not many tours include Pisa as it would be expected to be a rushed day. Overall though I’m very happy with the tour and it met or exceeded my expectations due to an excellent guide and not having to understand the trains/tickets and how everything worked as that would have been a lot of stress and headache! Plus we didn’t have time to do Pisa alone and allowed me to see the coast line.
incredible!
shaheen_s, Sep 2022
great tour guide, Julia was super knowledgeable, friendly and knew so much! was a great trip. the places we visited were stunning and the train ride was easy and convenient.
Experience the train!
Shuangshuang_L, Aug 2022
The trip itself is good. However, Viator just said "departure time 7 am" and suggested to arrive 10 minutes before that. So we thought we should be there at 6:45am. Next time, please states "the train leaves at 7:23 am." When we arrived in Cinque Terre, we were supposed to visit 3 villages but some tourists wanted to stay at the second village for a longer period of time. The guide (who was fantastic) made us to vote. We didn't expect this at all. Next time, please states 'itinerary might alter'
Convenient, gorgeous, you see a LOT, but not for those looking for a leisurely day
Stefana_L, Jul 2022
Overall, I'd say this trip is definitely worth it -- however, keep in mind this is a LOT packed into one day, plus the heat. It is exhausting and you might feel a bit rushed in each location (especially if the trains are delayed like they were for us). Now, this is in no way the fault of the organizers -- being rushed just comes with the territory of fitting in so many things in one day. Since we only had one extra day, this was definitely the best way to get to see as much as possible! But if you're looking for a relaxing day, this might not be the best. But the positives! Pisa and Cinque Terre are absolutely beautiful and it was such a dream to see them. I loved every second of it and now I can't wait to go back! The tour guide Francesca was so nice and helpful, and very informative! This is such a convenient trip to take if you're staying Florence. This was one of my favorite things I did on this trip.
Day trip to Pisa and more.
Dolores_G, Jul 2022
The guide Julia was very nice and helpful. However too many stops with too little time to really enjoy the stop. Maybe instead of three stops after Pisa, only two. Add more time to the two stops. You can have time to swim or have a decent meal. The three stops were very beautiful, but very similar.
Fine experience but no real value add
Katherine_G, Jul 2022
The tour felt very rushed, taking the local trains - we ran into delays which made our stays in each location even shorter. We were not able to go up the tower in Pisa, and barely had time to swim. I would have preferred going just to Pisa and Manarola. On the positive side, guide was excellent!
It took 4 hours to get to...
Sandra_A, Jul 2022
It took 4 hours to get to Cinque Terre from Pisa because there was an accident on the railroad. It’s not the guide’s fault, he tried to make it up to us and even stayed an hour more. Unfortunately, because of the incident, we were only able to see 1 town out of 3. It would’ve been ideal if it were a tour by bus instead of having to take multiple public trains and rely on them…
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Dear Sandra, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Unfortunately, this kind of event is completely out of our control. This kind of events can also happen on main roads by bus. Cinque Terre can only be visited by train as it is a national park and buses are not allowed. The fact that the tour is by train allows you to see more in a day and avoid traffic jams typical of the summer and get to destinations faster. Again accidents can happen but luckily are not that often and no one can predict them. We hope you still enjoyed the locations visited. Kind Regards
Great day trip to go to coast
Alessandra_P, Jul 2022
A great trip! Francesca was very knowledgeable, friendly, & great at navigating all the trains. She made sure we had as much time as possible in each place!
Just beautiful and informative
Caroline_L, May 2022
Excellent way to spend the day!!! Valentina, our tour guide was awesome and super informative. She even went above and beyond to recommend her favorite places to eat/visit while in Italy!! The tour was a long full day, but you will take many trains to relax from lots of walking! It is also a great way to learn about the train system and how the process works!!! We recommend 100%
An incredible experience.
Benjamin_G, May 2022
This tour was incredible. It’s a long day but seeing Pisa and Cinque Terre in one day is great if you are trying to pack in a lot on a short trip to Florence. Our guide was really knowledgeable and answered all questions we had.
Good but fast paced through cinque terre
Christopher_E, May 2022
This is a great tour to experience multiple cities and areas. Our guide Francesca was wonderful! She was prompt, knowledgeable, and has a pleasant and energetic personality. The Pisa trip has plenty of time for pictures, a trip up the tower if desired, and to grab a snack. The Cinque Terre portion was a bit hectic depending on the trains, and time was limited usually to 1h or less in each town. However, this is great if you’re just wanting a glimpse for experience, views, and to scope out future travel. Overall good experience.
An absolute must see in Tuscany!
DGAUTNEY, May 2022
Francesca was absolute delight as our tour leader. Kind and personable, she was able to think on her feet when the transportation situation didn’t go according to plan, and got us quality time everywhere you want to see. Pisa in the morning was calm and tranquil and Cinque Terre should not be missed. Couldn’t recommend this trip any higher
Day trip to Pisa and Cinque Terre
Jackie_F, Mar 2022
This is a great way to see Pisa and Cinque Terre if you are using Florence as your base. It's a long day on trains but was worth seeing two cities. Valentina was very accommodating getting 11 people from each stop all day. Keep in mind that the day starts at 7 and you get back to the train station at 7:30 that evening.
Response from Host, Apr 2022
Hi! Thank you for your review. We are happy that you liked it. As you noticed it is the best way to visit two places in one day. Spread your words with your friends! We will be happy to see you on other of our tours.!
