What To Expect

Fiat 500s were first introduced in Italy in the 1950s and quickly won the hearts of Italians for their stylish looks and affordable prices. Nowadays, vintage models are harder to come by, but you’ll have the rare chance to ride a 1960s model on your tour.

Join up with your guide in central Florence and head to the garage where your retro car will be waiting for you. A safety overview will be provided as well as a test run with car’s manual gears to ensure you’re comfortable before hitting the road.

Then, you're off! Your guide will keep in constant radio contact ahead as you follow through the city streets and up into the hills of Tuscany. Stop to see the beautiful Romanesque design of the Church of San Miniato al Monte, noted by many as the country’s most beautiful church, and soak up the surrounding views of Florence below.

Hop back in your Fiat and journey deeper into Tuscany, pausing for photos and passing through charming hillside towns. Your guide will lead the way to a private terrace, where you and your group will enjoy a traditional Tuscan meal, complete with regional specialties such as crostini and cured salami. After your stomach and taste buds have been sated, you will drive back to your original departure point in Florence.

That's maybe something worth considering changing, I think some roads were not that suitable for scooters and to split up cars and scooters, with each group having a guide of their own, may also be a bit safer.
The tour guide is very friendly, he speak Spanish, English and German very well, very recommended.
These are cars from the 60s and 70s, you need to know how to use a clutch.

Fiat 500 fun in Florence

Our group was one Fiat ( us) and about 15 vespas. The 2 leaders split us in to 2 groups based on speed/experience in the Vespa. The leaders each drove a Fiat, and we drove right behind them with all the Vespas behind us. Stefano was a great leader, stopping to tell us about vineyards, olive trees, a church, and lots of great views for photos. We then stopped for a family style lunch, and got to know all the other visitors. Wonderful day, highly recommend. I am glad we chose the Fiat over the Vespa as they were easy to drive ( if you are comfortable wirh stick shift), comfortable on a cold day, and super cute!

This tour was just so fun, start-to-finish. We met great people, the guide was friendly, knowledgeable and had a sense of humor. There was really nothing to improve, it was a fabulous tour! (And I started out as a semi-reluctant passenger!)

Highlight of our Visit to Florence!

The highlight of our trip to Florence was this getaway in a Fiat 500 into the countryside. Away from the crowds and museums, we were able to really enjoy the beauty of the area and yet still learn more about the history, the wine and the people of the region. Walkabout Tours has it together. It is a smooth operation and you feel well taken care of every step of the way. Listen to their suggestions - they know what they are doing. After an orientation on the car, we drove through the hills stopping along the way at vantage points and even at a thousand year old church. Stephan gave us all the info we needed for a great tour. He took care of us and kept us entertained. We had a delightful lunch on top of a hill overlooking an orchard and vineyard. Then another exciting drive through small towns, narrow streets and fascinating countryside back to Florence. There is a lot that goes on before you get behind the wheel - walking to a van, a drive through the suburbs in the van to the warehouse with the cars and vespas, and information on how to drive these pre-automatic cars. But don't worry, you get plenty of time driving! Relax and trust you will have a wonderful time!

Great true driving experience on hilly public roads !! Guide Robert was knowledgeable and fun! Lunch was homemade with a beautiful view. I would have done this again if I had not scheduled this for my last day. A vivid memorable day. If you only do one tour do this one and ask for Robert.

Hands down one of the highlights of our trip. Who can say they have drove a vintage Fiat via through Tuscany. I could not recommend this tour more. My daughter and I had such a blast. You will try through small Tuscan towns with amazing views. We also made some great friends along the way. Our host was awesome and provided a great history lesson. Don't hesitate, book now.

My daughter and I did the Fiat tour and it was probably our most fun event of our entire trip to the Tuscany area. The gentlemen at the Fiat and Vespa garage were really passionate about their job and took great care of us. Driving the Fiat through the narrow winding roads of the Chianti region was just so exhilarating. Our group first met up in the location in front of the Biblioteca Nazionale and then driven by van to the Fiat garage. You are given a history of the Fiat 500's and a quick driving instruction and then you are off to tour the countryside with a few stops. You must be able to drive a manual transmission, but the Fiats also do not have power steering. As the driver, I did not find that part to be a problem. On the tour, the most beautiful stop being the area for our delicious meal and wine tasting. The views all over this countryside are just unbelievable. If you are in the Florence area for a visit, we definitely recommend this trip!

Great experience driving through the Tuscan hills. We were together the Vespa riders but that's not an issue. I think if your uncomfortable with the Fiat, they might allow you to swith to the Vespa or vice-versa.

The Fiat Tour was our favorite part of our entire trip! Gio led a perfect tour for us and was very helpful. We loved the drive through the countryside and were able to stop at several places to learn about Tuscany. Our lunch was phenomenal with the most amazing views of Florence and the Tuscan countryside.
