What To Expect

Make your way to the Medici Chapels, located on Piazza di Madonna degli Aldobrandini in Florence. Present your skip-the-line ticket to bypass the long lines and proceed directly inside.

The opulent chapel can be explored at your leisure. During your time there, learn that the Medici family (along with several church leaders) commissioned Michelangelo to build the chapel as a pendant to Filippo Brunelleschi's Sagrestia Vecchia. The Sagresti Nuova was to be a mausoleum and a private church for the Medici family, staunch supporters of the church.

Construction began in 1520 and was completed by Giorgio Vasari in 1546. Of the planned 4 tombs, only 2 were built. These two hold the bodies of Giuliano Lorenzo de'Medici and Lorenzo di Piero de'Medici and are decorated with Michelangelo's allegorical sculptures Night, Day, Dawn, and Dusk.

      Very disappointed
      Patricia_T, Oct 2022
We were sold tickets for the Medici Chapel which apparently has been closed in recent weeks. A local guide checked with the ticket office for us and confirmed that the adjacent church was open but not the chapel.
      More info would have helped.
      Scott_M, Sep 2022
We really enjoyed the Medici Chapels! The only thing that would have made it better is if we had a digital ticket from the start…and not have to wait for an emailed ticket. More information would have been helpful on where to stand and the process for entrance.
      It was a bust!

We got the confirmation which said there would be an email to follow. Got the email but our service was down and we could not download the ticket there was no information regarding a meeting spot went to the Medici chapel too crowded was not able to locate the tour guide. It was a bust.

Hello please notice you bought ticket to access the chapel, NOT a GUIDED TOUR, so none was waiting for you. Instructions on ticket redemptions are printed on the voucher itself.

You should purchase this tour just for the skip the line benefit! The art collection is eclectic and abundant and it is easy to see how much the Medicis loved art and its cebation of mankind's achievements!

The Medici Chapel are really wonderful but we had to wait before entering in spite of a skip the line ticket . Besides the price paid is more than twice what you pay directly at the entrance of the museum.

The only disappointing purchase through Viator and we know it is not their fault. We purchased to save time however at the ticket desk the lady who served us on the morning of the tour was not going to honour our vouchers. We were under the impression that this ticket would cover head sets as well and it didn't our fault for not checking. After scowling at us and looking confused at the voucher they begrudgingly let us in. Disappointed as we didn't skip any lines and waited like everyone else who were purchasing cheaper at the door tickets. Also clearer directions are needed to the ticket office.

There was no line to wait it so entry could have been very easy without it. I also visited after peak season so maybe that is why there was no line.

For people interested in the Medici and in Renaissance art and history, this is a not-to-be-missed venue, containing Michelangelo's carvings for all Medici tombs. What we purchased was not a guided tour, but simply an admission ticket. Still, for those who have been steeped in the Renaissance or even just WANT to be, it was a spectacular experience. I can't say enough good things about it.

Worth a trip. Best to read up on the Medici family and Florence's history before visiting. Or, take the Academia and Uffizzi tour first, as guides will explain the history of the Medici family.

Just amazing. Not too hard to find, used google maps to get about finding places, swapped out voucher effortlessly for a ticket, and went through security. Some small parts being refurbished but that's to be expected anywhere. Exhibits just wonderful and so much history. Highly recommend.
      Esperienza da non ripetere
      Domenica_F, Jul 2021
Purtroppo è stata un esperienza negativa, il biglietto da presentare in cassa aveva un orario differente da quello richiesto. Per fortuna rientravamo a Milano con mezzi propri , altrimenti avremmo perso soldi.
