What To Expect

Your tour will begin in front of the resplendent Pitti Palace. The former home of the powerful Medici family, the lavish Renaissance palace now hosts an extraordinary collection of art.

Bypass the lines at the main entrance and enjoy direct entry with your skip-the-line ticket. Follow your guide through the opulent rooms of the Palatine Gallery, arranged for aesthetic value rather than being displayed chronologically. As you roam from room to room, hear about the history of the building and the Medicis, who took over the palace in the 16th century until their fall from power in the 18th century.

Pause to admire some of the incredible works amassed by the Medicis during their rule. See works from Raphael, Caravaggio, Titian, Pietro da Cortona and Rubens, learning the stories and techniques behind the masterpieces. From the windows, catch views of Brunelleschi’s Santo Spirito Basilica and the Boboli Gardens.

Your tour will conclude in the gallery after two hours, leaving you free to continue exploring on your own, if you wish.

Easy to find Annalisa at the designated time by the front doors. The history and sights were very interesting. We felt we have a much better understanding of the Medici dynasty. So much to see, I would not have wanted to do this sight on our own.

Our guide was great. He really knew The Pitti Palace. The art is amazing. My only disappointment was that the costume room with the clothes they wore was not open. Otherwise, excellent tour.

Or tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. There were only 6 people in our group so we felt as though we were given a private tour. She pointed out the most prominent works of art in each room, and mentioned where the artist's paintings would be showcased in other museums that we have yet to visit. Our guide, (Camilla?), truly enriched our experience. I highly recommend this tour.

I took this tour because few, if any, of the pictures in the Pitti Palace are labeled, so it was great to have a guide who pointed out one or two highlights in every room. The entire place was overwhelming! Federica was a good guide.

We didn’t realize how fascinating the Medici Family was. Our tour guide did a great job telling us stories about the family and also shared some details about the art work. We stayed longer to explore other areas of the palace and to look at the art work more closely. Definitely plan to stay longer than the two hours the tour slots.

The tour guide Roberto did not show up, and Maurizio was pressed into service. As he was probably hoping that the designated person will show up late, Maurizio spent a lot of time talking about the sandstones of the palace’s facade. He was clearly knowledgeable about the artworks, but lacked animation nor engagement which made it hard for the group to stay focused.

It was definetely not in the attempt of waiting for the designated guide. Having worked with him for more than 20 years and having personally attended many of his tours, I personally wouldn't doubt for a minute that he is the right person for the job. Excellent knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide Mauricio, intimate group (only 4), 1.5 hour tour turned into 2.5 hours (which actually was a bit overwhelming, but I would rather receive the wealth of information than be rushed through and miss things).
