What To Expect

Make your own way to Sawgrass Recreation Park just a short drive from downtown Fort Lauderdale, in the heart of the Florida Everglades.

Begin with an exciting airboat tour of the Everglades, and skim along the grassy water at speeds up to 40 miles per hour (64 kph) while learning about the area’s subtropical ecosystem from the experienced captain. Look for a variety of wildlife, like alligators, fish, turtles, and wading birds.

After the airboat ride, check out the exhibits inside Sawgrass Recreation Park:

The Reptile Exhibit features dozens of species that are both native and exotic to Florida—from turtles, iguanas, and snakes to Cannibal, an intimidating 1,000-pound (454-kg) alligator. The park’s handlers are always happy to talk about how these animals live and survive in the wild.

In the Glades Exhibit, learn about the history of the area and its conservation efforts in a video presentation. Then check out the African spur thigh tortoises, which range in size from 20 to over 100 pounds (9 to over 45 kg) each, plus rare gopher tortoises (which were rescued from a construction site), iguanas, and colorful peacocks.

  • Any age child can enjoy the airboat tour. Children 3 years and under are free. It is not necessary to purchase a ticket for ages 3 years and under.
  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Infants must sit on laps
  • Most travelers can participate
  • Tour operator reserves the right to cancel the tour due to inclement weather
  • If you have selected the 4 p.m. time please note that it is a check in time only and that your airboat adventure will be leaving the dock at 5 p.m. so that you have ample time to explore the exhibit areas before they close at 5 p.m. 
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 25 travelers

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

So glad we did this excursion. Barbara (captain of boat) very knowledgeable, friendly and personable. We fortunately seen 3 alligators in our 30 minutes. Priced right, close drive. Everglades are beautiful....take the time, go see

Brian made sure we seen a gator and pointed out various birds and grass species. The small informative show after was entertaining but the exhibit area is smaller than i expected.

Although we didn't see any gators in their natural environment, we enjoyed the ride! The boat it's very noisy, even with ear plugs. I wouldn't recommend to small kids.

Johnny was really nice and funny. We saw birds and grass. One little gator below the surface at a distance. The ride was fun and Johnny made it comical with his jokes. We went at 1030am before it was really hot which was the smart thing to do.

Do not Uber to this place, it’s in the middle of nowhere, it almost took us an hour to get an Uber back!!

All guests should simply type in Sawgrass Recreation Park to the GPS. Most guests are easily able to find round-trip transportation through UBER or LYFT but it can be difficult at peak times like holiday weekends

Captain was super dope and knowledgeable. Got to see 3 different type of birds and a gator so our visit was everything. We also had some of the tasty gator bites from the food truck.

We saw 1 bird. Not very entertaining at all, it was very noisy and hot. Felt like we were going around in circles.

It can be difficult to find wildlife when the temperature is above 99 degrees and we have had quite a hot Summer! At this time of year, we always suggest the morning or the night tour as being the best time to visit to see wildlife.

Captain Disco (?) was great! So nice, great driver, full of interesting facts, found us a gator and a heron, saved my friend's hat when it flew into the back of the boat. The whole experience was great and very reasonably priced. 10/10!

Warning . Do not bother with this one, nothing to see. The so called captain made no attempts to provide experience. Like he knew particularly in the hot weather, the wildlife stays underwater to keep cool.

Fun for kids, teens, and adults. We were lucky and saw a few alligators and other wildlife. Tour guide was very informative. The boat is very loud so if you’re sensitive to that be aware. Cute, small exhibit after the tour with alligators and reptiles and a small food truck that sells alligator if you want to try it. Also, there is a a gift shop and restrooms. We were 2 adults and a teenager and we all enjoyed it.

Very disappointing. We were all let down. We saw like 2 birds and some iguanas. Zero alligators. Definitely not worth the money for us and we 100% regretted the purchase.

Thanks for your visit! It's difficult to find wildlife when it is so hot out. We suggest the morning to visit or one of our night tours to avoid the heat. We hope you were able to enjoy our exhibit where you can touch a baby alligator!
Fun time in the Glades

This was a fun little outing. Really enjoyed it. Well worth the price of admission. We saw a couple of gators, but it was blazing hot out. Our very knowledgeable boat Captain,Disco told us that the alligators go to the bottom where the water is a little cooler. I think everybody wanted to join them! But other than that great trip.

No gator sightings. Would love more opportunities to go faster. Yummy food truck. Teen employees at exhibits were chatting with each other in one location and did not greet guests at exhibits and talk about the various displays.
