Roger our guide was...

Roger our guide was great. I do think you need to let people know that you share the tour with other people who have chosen more activities and you can wait around while taking and picking them up vs coming home right after visiting Gruyeres. I’m sure it’s efficient for the company but it extends the trip for certain people that chose not to do those things in the first place.

Wasted time on a Tour Bus!
Terry_G, Jul 2023
The tour we booked was only from Geneva to the Calliers Chocolate Factory and Gruyeres. That part was very good, however we were apparently bundled in with a group from Lausanne. This group also had a train ride from Gruyeres to Montreux. We had to then ride the tour bus to that location and got stuck in heavy traffic. We literally spent the last 4.5 hours of our day stuck on a bus in stand still traffic. Our booking did not say anything about the Montreux part and we felt that the tour company combined the two separate tours into one. This wasted our entire afternoon.
Response from Host, Jul 2023
Good morning, The Gruyère excursion does not include a visit to Montreux, perhaps you have chosen the wrong excursion. We're sorry to hear about the heavy traffic, but sometimes there's an accident on the road and the bus gets stuck. We hope to see you again to show you around Montreux and the Lavaux. Best regards Keytours team
More details desired up front, but overall a great experience.

KeyTours needs to do a better job communicating the additional options available for this tour if they aren't going to include them on Viator. Something to be aware of is the available addition of a lunch and a train ride through Montreaux. We were informed of these additions by our tour guide, on the day of the tour, when we thought we had already paid for the full experience. Other travelers that had booked with other tour aggregators had been shown these options and were all set. We opted to skip the lunch (which was a great idea, as the fondue that you can have within Gruyere itself is delicious, and you have more time to explore) but we did decide to take the train, which was a delightful experience. I wish this had been explained in advance but at least it was easy to make a decision after the tour began. Another thing KeyTours failed to list on Viator was a pickup option in Lausanne. We were staying in Lausanne and were only given pickup locations in Geneva, so we took a train to Geneva in the early morning to make it for the tour. We were then informed that the tour bus would stop in Lausanne for another couple. This resulted in a $100 train ride that was totally unnecessary. Maybe we should have asked, but it would be nice if KeyTours would explain that there are other possible pickup locations or to at least inquire with them. The tour itself was wonderful. You will not regret it!

Good morning, thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the tour, the chocolate factory, cheese museum and the train ride that you added. We will mention to the guide to explain all the options before. You can choose the tour from geneva or from Lausanne so we are surprise you didn't book from Lausanne, sorry aou have to take the train. Best regards and safe travel

A trip not to be missed!
Christina_M, Mar 2023
What a fantastic day! Easy booking to start, the itinerary of the day was great and planned out well. The chocolate factory blew our expectations of what it would be like. Our tour guide, ‘Roger’ was fantastic and made the day memorable.

Great day trip...
Emily_L, Oct 2022
Great day trip experience! The chocolate tour was by far my favorite while the cheese tour was a bit lackluster. It is helpful to know when booking through Viator you are not given the additional add-ons automatically. For the cheese tour, the rest of the group will eat fondue at the restaurant while you are given your cheese sample and taken to Gruyere to explore and eat (I actually preferred because you then receive 2 hours to explore vs. 1). You also will not already have a ticket for the train purchased near the end of the day. You can either purchase your ticket there or choose to ride on the charter bus. Fun experience overall and I do recommend

Hello Emily, Thanks for your review and your advices for other travellers :) See you next time
Great tour with a great tour guide
JuliaC_O, Jul 2022
Babis was an excellent bus driver and tour guide, very knowledgeable, very kind, very personable, all you could ask for really… The tour itself was great, the region was magnificent, amazing scenery, and more wine, cheese, and chocolate than any reasonable human being needs.
Great
Zachary_S, Jul 2022
Our driver was informative and entertaining. He kept us advised of the highlights and some things that seemed trivial but were very interesting with some historical facts to back them up.
Perfect day
Tia_Y, Jul 2022
Amazing time exploring a medieval village followed by scrumptious cheese and chocolate and fabulous views from Mt. Moleson. Our tour was changed due to road closures by the Tour de France but it ended up being better than the original tour. The views from the top of Mt. Moleson were breathtaking. Our guide, Babis, was informative, friendly, and a joy to get to know. We truly had a fabulous day.
Chocolate tasting hard to resist!
Robert_P, Jul 2022
Chocolate factory definitely the highlight. Never saw a chocolate waterfall before. The castle was amazing. As was the village.
Needs improvement
Daniel_P, Jun 2022
Viator has to do better. We have booked several trips from Viator and this is the first time we felt like second class citizens. There were options other participants were able to select that were never available. Imagine a tour of 50 people and only 5 of us were unable to participate in the cheese tastings. With the cost of the trip I would think it might be included. Additionally everyone but the same 5 were booked on a train trip. We were given the opportunity to add this at a cost of 28.4 Swiss francs. This is not the guide’s fault or company by Viator. Needless to say for $300 I expected better service. The cheese was experience was less than optimal and we felt so rushed we did not even enjoy it. Everyone was rushing to the cheese tastings and we were left with lack of direction on what to do
Fantastic Tour

Disappointing ++
NadaFairris, Mar 2022
Journey to Gruyère took far longer than planned as we had to divert to Lausanne to pick up two extra passengers. Chocolate factory a great disappointment as no humans seen working at any stage of the manufacture. Gruyère cheese factory even more of a disappointment as the only process seen was on a film loop. No time to see the castle or take the train trip…all because we had to leave early to drop off the two Lausanne passengers. No water on board the coach so a very dehydrating trip. All together not worth the money and not to be recommended to anyone.
Response from Host, Mar 2022
Good morning, We are very surprise by your comment as 99% of the passengers love this tour. The chocolate factoy is a real attraction with the scenery, decoration , raw materials. Of course, it's not all hand made but you cannot fnd any chocolate factory handmade that tou can visit nowaday or even exist. The cheese museum explains everything about our AOP. We don't leave early as there is no train in winter. The pick up in Lausanne is usual. We feel very sorry you are disapointed.
Day trip to Guyeres
Debra_S, Sep 2021
There was enough time to see and do what you wanted on your own. The Cailler Chocolate Factory was fun with ample samples. The city of Guyeres and cheese factory was nice . Time for a good fondue lunch and then train ride to Montreux .
Response from Host, Dec 2021
Hello Debra_S, Thanks for your complete feedback. We are very pleased that you appreciate your whole day at Gruyeres and then at Montreux. Hope to see you soon :)
Excellent Chocolate Tour - but rushed
Krista_Y, Aug 2019
Normally, I take the train instead of an organized tour. However, these things were a bit far and I didn't have much time so I booked a tour. The chocolate tour at the Cailler factory was fabulous. You go through "rooms" but..."rooms" are an understatement. This was like a miniature Disney ride without the "cars"...each "room" had a scene that lit up and had animated items popping up with mood music. You could listen to the dialog in your chosen language. At the end, it was more museum like, where you could learn more about the people/roles of folks who make the raw ingredients and then the chocolate. Note that we were alotted 1 hr at this place. I think by the time we got into the rooms etc 40 mins had passed. So I didn't get to enjoy the "museum" part more than 10 mins and grabbed some tasting chocolate along the way. Note that the first chocolates were individually wrapped. the others were on a tray and some folks may not be comfortable with the unwrapped ones. Though, there was a lady supervising to minimize people touching, but not taking. I normally would have skipped the gift shop, but in this case, I needed to buy some for gifts. So that's where the last moments were spent...grab chocolates, grab insulated bag (yeah, you need this in the summer so that your chocolate won't melt!), luckily no lines at the register and ran to the bus. We needed at least 15 more mins there. Then, we went to the cheese factory and it was "museum like", less impressive compared to the chocolate factory. Ideally, I would have gone to the cheese factory first because I think I would have been more impressed seeing it before I saw the chocolate factory. They gave you a prepacked sampler of Gruyere cheese with different ages...I think it was 4 mos, 6 mos and 8 mos. Something like that. The older cheese was firmer and stronger tasting than the younger cheese. It was good none the less. Note that I'm glad I ate it there vs taking it back to the USA because I forgot that dairy might be restricted. Then, I was glad I didn't do the tour with the Golden Pass train. We had 3 hrs in the village of Gruyeres (an uphill walk from the cheese factory). The tour guide told me to have Raclette at the Hotel de Ville. It was great. Note that the Golden Pass train route is much longer than the section you will take on this tour. Not worth it...go on the scenic train when you can do the entire length.

Very good

Staff has to pay more attention to the customers should try to help, Smile and eye contact was missing.
Very good and well organised
Troy_S, Jun 2019
I enjoyed this tour, the guide was very good. It was a rainy day, all day and yet it gave me a chance to explore Swiss areas and the impressive Gruyère. Chocolate factory & cheese factory visit were also interesting.
Lovely trip to the Swiss countryside
Victor_A, May 2019
We upgraded our trip once we were on it so that we could have the fondue luncheon and the panoramic train. Glad we did! Our tour guide, Yolanda, was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable about all things Switzerland. Gruyere is a beautiful village.
