What To Expect

After pickup in central Geneva, climb aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled coach and admire the spectacular scenery during the 60-mile (97-km) journey to Montreux.

Head next to Corsier-sur-Vevey and spend some free time in the village around Chaplin’s World, a site dedicated to the artist Charlie Chaplin.

In the afternoon, hop back aboard the open trolley and drive along the lake road from Vevey to the Château de Chillon, a grand castle and fortress located on an island in Lake Geneva. Stop at Château de Chillon for some pictures, and find yourself suitably awestruck by one of Switzerland’s most famous landmarks. Hear of famous writers who were inspired by the residence and then head into the historical center of Montreux.

Spend the rest of your tour exploring Montreux independently. Learn about the artists who have visited, such as Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, BB King, Ray Charles, and Freddie Mercury, who lived in Montreux for several years and recorded his last Queen album with the group in the Mountain Studio at Montreux Casino. Visit Queen’s old studio, see beautiful views of Lake Geneva, browse the sophisticated boutiques, or enjoy some lunch in one of the top-quality restaurants on the flower-filled promenade (own expense).

Afterward, relax during the journey back to Geneva, where the tour concludes.

A very relaxing and enjoyable trip

This was a very relaxing trip because, once at a location, you are free to move around (our outstanding and caring driver and tour guide did recommend us what to do but it all depends on your own interest). We went to among other the museum of Charles Chaploin, Chateau de Chillon, a picnic at a very scenic location with miles of grape fields, the city of Mountroix and lots more (excuse my french).

Good tour but horrid guide

The trip itself is solid. However, I really think the tour guide was not experienced. I understand you get what you paid for. But there is an opportunity here: 1) We waited extra 20/30 min every time due to the same guest running late. While I appreciate the gesture, as a result, we were late everywhere and all our stops felt rushed. I think having a guide who is firm and can indicate that we will depart and not wait longer than 5-10 minutes is critical on tours with multi-stops and very limited time at location. The guide was also communicating critical details of timing only to whoever was in front and near them . Very unprofessional. The trip is good overall but if you get a guide like we did - you will be constantly rushed to just wait in the bus while one person takes their time to later not be told anything and continue this behavior. Beware...

We loved our tour guide, Hector! We had seen 2 tours on Viator, one with the Charlie Chaplin museum, one without. We weren't really interested in going to the museum so picked the basic tour. Our tour included people who bought the other package. We thought we'd be able to walk around a village but there was nothing near the museum so we basically had to either tour the museum or sit on the bus. The museum was really interesting and worth the price so I'm glad we did it. We also had to pay an additional amount to take the Lake Geneva boat to the Chateaux de Chillon. Also well worth it but an unexpected, added, expense. Our original description, of the package we purchased, included a tram ride, which was not included. Because of this the company paid for our entrance into the Chateaux . Overall a great trip, as long as you get the add ons.

We loved Montreux and the Chateau de Chillon, which we highly recommend. The problem with this tour is the stop in Corsier sur Vevey is pointless. This company has another similar tour that stops at the Charlie Chaplin museum in Corsier sur Vevey and they lump this tour in with them and say you can visit Corsier sur Vevey. The problem is that we were dropped off in the middle of a residential neighborhood where there is literally nothing to see or visit. I would recommend finding a tour that goes straight to Montreux and skips the stop in Corsier sur Vevey.

This was a nice tour but since I bought the basic package I was not able to enter the Chaplin museum, ride the boat to the castle or enter the castle. Luckily I had bought the swiss travel pass and the boat ride and entrance to the castle were all included with the pass for free! I was under the impression if I had purchase this basic package then I would be transferred to the destinations with a separate group but instead I was part of the group who had access to all parts and had to wait while the others were in the museum.

Maggie was the tour guide of the day. She was very attentive to her tour group's needs to the point of even furnishing local Swiss snacks. I opted to visit the quaint little village of Corsier instead of going to Charlie Chaplin Studios. However, I think it would be very worthwhile to do. The Chateau de Chillon is great a must for history lovers. Montreux, however, is more or less a 30 minute last stop before heading back to Geneva. Take advantage of the time there to see the Freddy Mercury statue and grab an icecream. It is basically all the time you will have there.
