What To Expect

Get out of the city and into nature on this horseback ride into the rugged countryside of Puerto Rico. You’ll feel like an island native as you ride your friendly, trained steed on an exploration of this lush environment.

Start your trip with pickup in San Juan, delivering you to the tour’s stables for an introductory lesson in riding technique. Don’t worry if you’re a riding novice, as this tour’s friendly horses are trained to accommodate all levels of experience.

From there, ride out to discover the picturesque lagoons and tropical fields at Hacienda Campo Rico, spread across more than 2,200 acres (890 hectares) of terrain. Take a break halfway through your ride to soak up this amazing scenery, and make sure to look for local creatures like frogs and birds along the way. End your experience at a Mojito Bar where mojitos, beer, and other Caribbean drinks are available for purchase. Then, board your transportation back to San Juan.

The whole experience was very fun and for first timers you get to be able to learn how to ride a horse with people who make you feel safe and comfortable. make sure to wear shoes and comfy clothing as well as plenty of sun screen. 10/10

Viator REFUSED a refund because we were turned away

My daughter was bloated due to her period coming. She weighed in just over the 250 limit. We were refused to go on the excursion. Which, I completely understand. However, this was beyond her control. We were told by the barn manager we could get a refund. VIATOR IS REFUSING TO REFUND. We paid $310 for this excursion and we were turned away. I will NEVER use the services of viator again. We did NOTHING wrong.

Great riding experience

Nice ride with a couple stops for pictures with our phones by the tour guide and to rest the horses a little. Bring shoes that are ok in house muck and mud. Tennis shoes worked well for stirrups and walking. The riding portion was 90 - 120 minutes with a couple stops. Riding is through brush and trees, the guide pointed out interesting plants from the farm. The ride is an easy walk and is good for beginners. During a pause on the field, they let more experienced riders who were interested to trot and to canter/ gallop. Those uncomfortable riding faster waited and rested their horses. There are goats, horses, tortoises, and emus seen on the ride. They farm a variety of crops at the hacienda which were also pointed out on the ride. There is a souvenir shop and a mojito bar for refreshments / shopping after the ride while waiting for the van to pick us up. It was very well organized, minimal waiting to be picked up at hotel (driver was within 10 minutes of expected pick up), and minimal time to be picked up after the ride (within 20 minutes of finishing). Driver checked to ensure he had everyone before leaving so plenty of time for a drink or bite to eat after the ride.

I was really disappointed with this experience. There were LONG waits before and after the ride so they could push their gift shop on us. The horses were dirty and even had fleas! The only redeeming grace (reason for 2 stars instead of 1) is that Genesis, my guide, was really sweet. I would NOT recommend this tour group for anything!

There were a lot of great aspects to this experience. The booking was easy. The people were lovely. The horses were well trained. The property was nice — a refreshing change of scenery from downtown San Juan amd the ocean. However I felt that the price was too steep for what you got — a 2 hour walking horseback tour of a grassy plantation. The horses were trained to follow each other and some would stop not respond to rider commands unless the tour guide came back to lead the horse forward.
