What To Expect

Luau Kalamaku has been voted ‘Best Luau Show’ on Kauai by Lonely Planet. To begin your entertaining evening, make your way to the historic Kilohana Plantation, or choose an option that includes hotel pickup. Upgrade to take a ride around the 104-acre (42-hectare) estate on the Kauai Plantation Railway before dinner. Enjoy the lush tropical gardens as you observe traditional Hawaiian crafts and try your hand at some fun island games.

If a dinner option is selected, the feast begins with torch lighting and a Hawaiian imu ceremony, in which a whole roast pig is removed from an underground oven. Dig into a bountiful buffet of island favorites, including mahi mahi, teriyaki chicken, lomi lomi salmon and a variety of local vegetables, fresh fruit and side dishes. Mingle with other guests as you dine, and complete your meal with a delicious tropical drink from the bar (own expense).

With your appetite satisfied, head inside the Luau Pavilion for an unforgettable show that tells the story of the first Tahitian explorers to land on Hawaiian shores. Watch the mesmerizing tricks of flame twirlers, plus the graceful choreography of Polynesian dancers wearing traditional costumes. Live music accompanies the show, including powerful drumming on instruments handmade by the musicians.

After the show, you’ll have a chance to meet the performers and take photos before heading back out into the warm Hawaiian night.

This was a really fun show. The food was very good considering how many people they were feeding. Also the vendors had some really unique items. I would definitely recommend paying more and getting close up seats. We were right next to the stage and it was excellent!

Was expecting better
Amanda_B, Oct 2023
Show was an A Dinner was a C Was expecting better. Not worth the extra money to upgrade. Still great performances
Best Family Luau!
Brittany_T, Oct 2023
This was our pre-elopement celebration with our family and kids ages 6,8,9. They absolutely enjoyed the experience! Highly recommend and would visit again.
Terrible experience
Lorel_B, Sep 2023
The show was amazing! That’s the only good part of our experience. The bus picked us up late so by the time we got to the luau we were rushed onto the train tour which took away from the pre-show events. By the time we got off the train all the outside experiences we over. Then when we finally got called up for food there was nothing left, we had to jump over to another line and grab what we could grab. For the money I paid for a party of six with priority seating it was very disappointing. Not to mention that it was my adult children’s 1st luau experience. The final straw was the bus ride home with no bathroom access. I would not recommend or ever return.

Lu’au Kalamaku was great fun
Rachel_F, Sep 2023
We had a great time. We did the Gold one and ended up front and center at Table 1. Everything was fabulous.
Fun and energetic cultural experience
Tracy_S, Sep 2023
Bus driver chaotic and unreliable Stressful start 30 minutes Had to back track ti pick up forgotten passengers 1 hour late had to forego train experience Loss of money Lauau was wonderful Performance outstanding Food snd drinks plentiful Packed dessert too early
Starting with train ride, whole luau experience was more than worth the time and expense
Kathleen_N, Sep 2023
Loved the music and dancing, the history of it, and of course, the food was good, too. But it all started with our train ride to see the plantation and to stop and feed the pigs, cows and horse. The guide was excellent...as was the train engineer.
It was good all around...

It was good all around and would recommend to family and friends. The food was very good and the show entertaining.
Outstanding!

Hawaii Vacation Luau
Jay_S, Sep 2023
We loved the music, fire show, and the food. The dancers were great and we loved the story. It was quite an event and the bartenders were very friendly.
Great luau experience
Courtnee_C, Sep 2023
Train ride around the plantation was fun and educational. Loved feeding the farm animals! Food was good, not great. Luau performance was excellent. Loved every minute of the show. Well done!!
Delightful and exciting
Randy_E, Sep 2023
Being close to the actual activities and event, the food was fresh and delicious, and they never appeared to be any rush, or lack of food.
Show awesome but food fell short.
Joyce_D, Sep 2023
The show was a 10! But, the food was only a 2. The pork was fatty, the lo mein tasteless, salmon really fishy and papaya was mushy. Had I known the quality of the food I would have chosen the white fish, rice and melon.
Response from Host, Oct 2023
We're so glad that you enjoyed the show. Thank you for your feedback about the buffet dinner - we appreciate you taking the time. Mahalo!
A good choice!
Sharon_C, Sep 2023
We did the train and paid extra to sit nearer the stage. Train was fun and gave history of the plantation. The food was average at best. But the show trumps everything!! I’ve been to several luaus and this was above 5 stars!! Last minute they sat a couple late comers right in our vision path to the stage which made it more difficult to see/take pictures but overall it’s well worth our time and $$
Very fun evening
Taylor_M, Sep 2023
My husband and I had a great time here and were delighted that it ended up being more than just a luau. We chose the train ride option also which gave us a tour of the plantation. We then entered the luau area and were able to get drinks from the open bar and walk around to different vendor tents selling Hawaiian goods. The buffet had lots of options and more than enough food for everyone. Finally, the show was a spectacular display of Hawaiian culture and folklore. Would definitely recommend!
Not like the old days, but fabulous in itself
JodyDawn_R, Sep 2023
The show was fabulous! The food was only ok. Things felt very rushed. Keep in mind, it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a luau. This on seemed to have an over abundance of people and very rushed. No sign if the pig being cooked in the ground..
Remarkable Luau
ROSEMARY_W, Sep 2023
Lights and Sounds... colorful costumes; what a Remarkable performance! Wish we were seated closer to the stage.
Great Experience- Definitely go!!!
Autumn_L, Sep 2023
Overall great experience! Recommend for everyone. A few tips…. If you are traveling with friends but purchasing separately call and arrange for them to have you seated together. We had a group of 8 and thought that since we purchased at the same time they would sit us together OR we could just request it when we got there. NOPE! Plan ahead. Gold seating does get you closer to the stage but doesn’t necessarily mean you will have a better view. Some seating that wasn’t gold were elevated so had a great (if not better) view. Tables are round so some will have their back to the stage. Train worth it if you are going with kids but if you’re not with kids can be skipped so you can choose the seats facing the stage. All this said it was a great experience. This luau tells a story, which is different than the two other luau’s that I have attended. The dancers were great and you can tell practiced and were proud of their heritage. Definitely go, but heed my tips :-)

I have been to several luaus, but this was by far the best! It was enthralling and mesmerizing, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to have a beautiful show and learn the history of the Hawaiian culture.
Overall good
Michael_A, Sep 2023
Show was great. Everything was very organized. Food was marginal. The gift shops on site were very nice. Some workers in the Rum shop were very pleasant, one not so much. Overall good experience.
Great show!
jg9p9vzytq, Sep 2023
The show was wonderful and well organized. The food was ok, nothing spectacular but not bad either. Overall a positive experience and would recommend. We also did the train tour which was cute, but not as memorable.
