We went there on Jan 2023. The crews and captain are excellent. Most of the experiences are excellent. These include : The captain knows where the dolphins are. Almost 30-50 of them swimming around us, just beside us. Fantastic. So many whales elegantly swimming and waving their tails around us. Maybe 20 to 30?? The day we went, the sea was calm. We went straight to Ni'ihau. The captain has excellent skills in getting the boat close to the coastline so that we can have an impactful view of the landscape. When we reached Napoli, the captain also moved very slow and close so that we can have a good glimpse of the coast. Excellent captain,
The team has very good knowledge about the sea and wind. They selected a spot that was good for snorkeling. A relatively calm spot that was surrounded by strong currents. They gave clear instructions to the swimming direction in order to keep safe in the spot where strong currents were surrounding. The snorkeling was beautiful. Hundreds of beautiful fishes just below you. The sea was clear and blue.
The reason why I give "1" to the trip is due to safely reason. Maybe it was because it was winter, despite the wind was very calm, the currents can be very strong occasionally. Most of my snorkeling time, we were fine. Inside the sea, during snorkeling, the currents were good. However at the later session, the currents get stronger. More people needed help. Especially there were some older people. There were only 3 people as safety and supporting staffs. When I tried to get back to the ship, the currents were so strong that they bumped me strongly onto the staircase. They hurt my ribs so badly. I hope they were not broken. I still need to take X-ray. It is like strong currents driving you onto the rocks, which can be very dangerous. The currents are so strong that I have to hold on tightly to prevent being wiped into the bottom of the ship. There was no crew to help, as they were so busy with other stuffs. When I finally managed to climb onto the staircase, which was sandy and rough to prevent slippery, I can only get onto it by knees, as the currents are too strong. Then the currents droved me back and forth on the sandy staircase. My legs get cut at least in 3 places.
My conclusion is that, the team is so good. However maybe too aggressive to have snorkeling activities in winter. They want to keep customer happy. However to me, safety is the priority. In this kind of environment, maybe more staffs are needed.
I feel so bad that I write such a comment for the trip. As the team is excellent. However I hope that they can look into more safety issue.
Actually my partner almost got drown. Primarily it was her fault. She is not a good swimmer and she got scared. When she was holding onto the rope, waiting for help, so many people waiting for other supports. She said that she almost got wiped into the bottom of the ship by the strong currents. It was her fault. However there may be so many clients similar to her. The crews may need to consider these kind of scenario in their risk management also. The crews were to kind to entertain everyone. Therefore they didn't stop her when they knew she is not a good swimmer. They initially wanted to take her down hand in hand by themselves. (They have very good service, wanting everyone to by happy. ) However at the end, they didn't have time, as so many people needed help. So they just asked her to try herself.
My conclusion is that, if they have better risk management planning, it is a company that I highly recommended. I joined this company for sunset trip. Also excellent. My purpose of writing all these is to ensure everyone can enjoy the service from this excellent company in a safe manner.
