Unbelievable experience! Charlie was so knowledgeable and he showed us amazing views! It was a little rainier the day we went and it just added to the magic of the Kauaian jungle. Wow! Charlie was everything we wanted and more. This trip is for anyone who is willing to get dirty, actually filthy, and doesn’t mind physical exertion. This is not a stroll through the woods! If you can handle that, this is the best way to see the interior of Kauai. Charlie explains everything— the gear, the plants, the culture. From the very start we could tell Charlie cared. He lent my daughter a long sleeve shirt and pants—the plant life is ferocious out there. So are the mosquitoes! If you are adventurous but not ready to set out on a hike without a guide, this is a must do. If you book this trip, I hope you are lucky enough to meet the stray dogs Charlie has taken in. He really has a big heart for everything!

This was a great choice our family made! Charlie was outstanding and there was just the perfect balance of adventure, silliness and overall experiences! Definitely wear pants, slather on the big spray and wear closed toe shoes with good traction. There are parts of the trail that are very muddy and slippery. Participants need to have some basic strength as the repelling and climbing are no joke. If you’re looking for a personalized tour that shows you hidden gems of Hawaii, then this is for you. We loved all of it! 😍

To use my wife's words, "I started out a little scared and unsure of myself, and outside of my comfort zone, but after the first rappel I was totally stoked and realized I can do this!" Our family had an awesome adventure with Charlie, and what made it more memorable was that we had the entire jungle to ourselves. The terrain is challenging but the views are incredible, and Charlie is a wealth of knowledge about the plants and animals you will encounter. The rappels are fun and my sons especially loved the waterfall dives. It's muddy, challenging, and at times it's pretty steep, but totally worth it. My sons also really enjoyed hearing about Charlie's experience with search and rescue. Well done Charlie!

Words can not describe how amazing Charlie "the Hawaiian Dundee" and his tour actually are. His private adventure is the best on the island. My wife and I had so much fun and learned a lot about local culture. If you are interested in a true Hawaiian adventure in the secluded back country, this is your guy! It's better than you could possible imagine. I'd give Charlie a 10 star review if I wasn't capped at 5.

Our Amazing Day with Da Dundee

Charlie was amazing!! He is such an interesting guy and shared great information with our family, in addition to the beautiful sites he brought us to. He was so kind to our children and they both felt very accomplished and proud of themselves when we were done. They not only went through a physical, rigorous hike to make it to these beautiful locations, but also listened and talked with Charlie to learn about native Hawaiian plants, animals, and history about parts of the island. He even helped my daughter by creating protective guards for her ankles using leaves, and then braided this beautiful lei head garland that she wore for the rest of the trip! He also helped my son cut open a coconut he had found in the Hanalei river the day before, which was such a nice gesture as he didn’t need to do that after a 6-7 hour hike! Overall, this was a life changing experience for my family, we loved every minute of it and felt like we were leaving a family member or close friends house after our long day with Charlie, it was that memorable.

This Isn’t a Disneyland Ride

This trip was a bit different than what we were expecting. We got to Charlie’s base and as we’re putting on our gear he was asking questions to assess our ability. After driving through the jungle we jumped out in our short sleeves and shorts and found that probably wasn’t the best choice in clothing. Between the brush and mosquitoes it was a bit rough. Charlie reminded us that this was not going to be a Disneyland ride. We hiked down a ridge and at the end rappelled 250 feet down a steep hill to the river bed. We hiked a ways through very thick trees and brush to a beautiful waterfall and pool. We spent a long time walking under the waterfall, swimming and jumping off the rocks. All the while Charlie was telling us about the land and the people and feeding us fruits and nuts he found along the way. While my wife and granddaughter were swimming Charlie made them both crowns from tree bark, complete with feathers. We hiked down the river crossing it several times while the bass and Tahitian prawns nibbled at our feet. The most difficult part was the climb back up the hill on a switchback trail Charlie had blazed himself. Upon our return Charlie told us that at 77 and 75 we were the oldest to ever do the trek. My granddaughter and I do a bit of hiking, but my wife is not a hiker. She said had she known what to expect she would have chosen not to go. That said this was one of the greatest adventures we have ever gone on. If you like hiking and beautiful waterfalls you will love this trip. Just wear long sleeves and long pants and bring insect repellent.

You folks were definitely challenged. but you prevailed. Yes dis is definitely not a Disney land adventure (of course, nothing wrong wit dat either)...You folks had da right mind set to be on dis adventure, and survived! You were da bestest!
