Dear Tracey,
I feel that based on the accusation of being called scammers we are well within our rights to respond.
On this day you were:
1. picked up at the port by our greeters
2. placed on a bus to Paris
3. greeted by a tour guide in Paris who even provided you a freshly baked croissant free of charge as a welcoming gift
4. taken on a tour by Maarten, one of the most in-demand guides in Paris, an expert who has worked at the Eiffel Tower and other museums.
5. dropped off for 2 hours of free time at the Champs-Élysées
6. offered some champagne at the end of the tour as a goodbye present, again free of charge (a special treat we decided to provide that day)
7. transported back to Le Havre on our bus and dropped off next to your ship.
I'm not sure why we would have gone through the effort of doing all those things if we were just scammers. If this the "worst experience ever" you must have had a very charmed life.
Our Sightsee, Shop and Dine tour includes: 1) a panoramic tour of Paris that's roughly 1.5h long 2) 2-3 hours of free time at the Champs-Élysées. This is what was delivered on the day.
Some of the passengers on your bus were indeed on a more extended sightseeing tour. You joined them for the first part of the tour (Eiffel Tower, Invalides, Place de la Concorde, Champs-Élysées) and were then dropped off for your free time. The people on the sightseeing tour then continued on the bus. This caused no disruption to you, as you were dropped off and they then continued with their tour, and the guide set a clear meeting point and time for you to rejoin them.
You were dropped off at Place de la Concorde, which is exactly where the Champs-Élysées begins - the pick-up point (Arc de Triomphe) is at the top of the Champs-Élysées and maximum a 25 minute walk away and absolutely not an hour - anyone with Google Maps can verify this. It's an incredible 25 minute walk through the grandest avenue in the world, lined with shops and restaurants. If 25 minutes seemed too long a walk, there is a metro line that takes you straight to the Arc de Triomphe in 5 minutes for €2. If public transport isn't your thing, a taxi would have also taken you there in 5 minutes. This tour promises a minimum of 2 hours of free time at the Champs-Élysées - you were dropped off at the bottom and picked up at the top 2 hours later - a perfect opportunity to stroll along one of the world's grandest avenues, pop into some of the shops, have lunch somewhere, etc.
While we generally try to aim for 3 hours of free time, on this day your ship was only docking in Le Havre for 12 hours, from 7am to 7pm. Given that it's a 3 hour drive from and to Le Havre, this means we could not spend more than 4 hours in Paris, because we always aim to have our customers back in port over an hour before their ship leaves. Unfortunately, due to your ship's time constraints, it was not possible for us to provide you with more than 2 hours of free time at the Champs-Élysées, as we could not risk that you would miss your ship. While that may be a little limited and of course people would prefer to spend more time there, our main priority was to return you safely to your ship at least an hour before departure. On days when the ship is docking for more than 12 hours, we do of course provide more free time.
We do also offer a Paris On Your Own Tour, which includes drop-off at the Eiffel Tower, followed by 4-5 hours of free time, and pick-up at the Arc de Triomphe. Perhaps this would have suited you better.
Lastly, we reject your accusation of being middlemen. Our company also operates routes in Germany, but the Le Havre-Paris route was something that we set up, developed, hired all of the guides and buses, and continue to manage personally on a day-to-day basis. There is no "local" French company doing any of this. We specifically chose to plan this route because no one else was doing it, apart from the cruise lines, who provide a much more expensive service at a lower quality. The only intermediary here is Viator.
I am sorry that this tour did not live up to your expectations, however everything that was promised on the itinerary was delivered despite the limited time frame. It is one thing that it did not live up to your expectations, it's quite another to call people who provided you exactly the service they advertised scammers.
I hope you enjoyed the rest of your cruise and that you will carry fond memories of Paris in spite of your negative review.
Best regards,
Sebastian
