What To Expect

15 minutes in advance of the 10:30am departure time, board your air-conditioned coach at the bus arrival port on Via Cogorano, easily reachable by bus from Livorno Cruise Port.

Following a 1-hour journey, you’ll arrive in Lucca and spend free time exploring Porta Sant’Anna, near to Lucca Cathedral (Duomo di Lucca) and a plethora of cafes.

Then, return to the coach for the 30-minute journey to Pisa, where you’ll have 1.5 hours to explore the Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Duomo, and Pisa Baptistery (Battistero).

Arrival at your original departure point in Livorno is expected in advance of 5:30pm.

Big bus, big group, big headaches!

We booked this excursion in April, 5 months early. We were stunned to find out that the town square meeting point is actually a meeting point for people who purchased this excursion from many different sellers and we ended up on a large bus, rather than a small group tour. Some people just purchased their tickets minutes before boarding the bus. We headed to Lucca first. It’s a lovely little medieval walled town. In our group we’re two families with very young children. At one point, one of the adults with children started yelling at Fredericko, our guide, to slow down, that the children couldn’t keep up. First of all, Fredericko was NOT going too fast. Secondly, if you join a walking tour, you need to be able to WALK!! Leave the children at home if they can’t keep up or you don’t have a stroller. We were given free time for lunch and shopping and Fredericko was very clear about where and when to meet. He even passed around a sign up sheet so he had everyone’s cell number and made us all note his, in case we got lost. One couple were 15 minutes late to our meeting point. Fred tried calling several times. No answer. So we left. He received a call from missing tourist. Fred explained we waited an extra 15 minutes but would return. The missing couple were clearly told to wait OUTSIDE the walls, where the bus had been. We drove by as Fred was on the phone saying he didn’t see them outside. We tried a second time. Still no late people. At this point, Fred called them again and explained they’d have to take a cab or train and meet us in Pisa. These are adults! If they can’t make the meeting time, despite 52 others on the tour being there, they should not waste our time even more with us driving by twice looking for them! Freericko did a great job pointing things out to us. The time in each town was perfect. If I had known we’d be on a big bus tour, I would not have booked it.

Lucca was an unexpected...

Lucca was an unexpected pleasure. We were not familiar with it at all but would highly recommend it to anyone visiting that part of Italy. And of course Pisa was a clear bucket list item checked off. Only issue was getting back to the bus parking area was not well marked at all.

Federico dis the tour in 4 languages! Quite impressive ! He also shared musical talent with us. This tour is bot for elderly people as it requires a lot of walking and Federico walls fast. He had to come back for the elderly people.

When arriving to meeting place it was very disorganized and chaotic and some of the employees were not helpful and unpleasant. We selected the walking tour which unfortunately was not informative. Guide basically walk you to spots and tells you the name and continue to the next place. In regards to timing they did got us back on time to our cruise which the highlight was that we didn’t have to get a separate shuttle.

Lucca is a lovely village but unfortunately it was so hot the asphalt was melting. It was worse at Pisa but the tour was otherwise excellent. We only did the self guided walk and only got confused and lost a few times in Lucca. Guide was Federico who provided entertainment and information we did not expect on a transfer only ticket.

A bit of a hassle to get to the city center and the proper bus for Lucca and Pisa, but once we were all set, the rest went well. Loved Lucca. Could have spent more time there. Had a wonderful lunch there. Pisa was crazy crowded, long walk from parking to the tower and beautiful church, very hot and crowded. All in all a good day.

This excursion was mis-represented and very poorly organized. The tour description shows a maximum of 15 people for the tour and there were 13 of us going. We were expecting a small bus that would hold 15 people for our trip to Lucca. We followed the tour instructions to take the shuttle from the port to the center of town and to our surprise, the plaza where we were dropped off was a mass of people trying to find their tour. This one tour operator is actually a large operator that was offering tours to Florence, to Lucca, and to Pisa and all of those tours were starting from that same plaza. We found a rep from the tour company and got conflicting info about exchanging our emailed voucher that was pre-paid for another printed voucher. To add to the chaos, there were people trying to purchase tour tickets while others that had pre-purchased tickets were just trying to figure out what to do and where to go. We were told to wait for the bus and they would call for us. We were told to line up and we knew then that this was not a 15 person tour as there was a long line of people. We were waiting patiently but when the bus came, there was a mad dash for the bus because people had been waiting a long time. We had booked a 10:30am tour but because we didn't rush to get on the bus, the bus did not have room for all 13 of us. They assured us that we didn't need to worry and that there was another bus for us. We then had to wait almost another hour for the next bus. Even though our tickets showed we had a 10:30 tour, they never looked at the tour times. Once we got to Lucca, the tour guide led us off the bus and told us when and where to meet to leave Lucca. He then led the group of about 50 into the old town of Lucca but he was not a very good tour leader as he didn't pay attention to the group and didn't seem to really care what happened to the group behind him. He walked quickly and lost over half the group before getting to the first stop in the city tour. He also didn't have a mic and speaker so people lost interest when they couldn't hear what was being described. The visit to Pisa was very similar. Pisa is extremely crowded and the guide walked quickly through the crowd so he lost at least half the group before he got to the tower. In general, the town of Lucca is a charming, old Italian town and well worth a visit. The tour guide was not much of a guide and the tour operator needs much better organization. The webpage should also be updated to more accurately describe what the tour is like and not mislead people into thinking that it's a much smaller and intimate excursion.

A Lovely Whirlwind Tour to Lucca & Pisa

This was an awesome excursion; well worth the money and a great use of time if you are limited by a cruise schedule. This tour was operated by City Sightseeing - we met our guides at the designated location; they were easy to find due to their bright shirts, and the Viator reservation-to-voucher transaction was seamless. While on the bus, our guide Michael was full of great information and humor, and would occasionally break out in song! It was great to get a taste (literally and figuratively) of the two locations. Lucca was a real gem; it had not been on our radar screen and it was a beautiful little historical town surrounded by an intact city wall - our tour guide shared with us a bit of history on the town and also several interesting and significant places to visit while there. Our stop in Pisa was also great, although brief - we did climb the tower and that took up most of our time, but it was worth it, even though it was thundering, lightning and raining cats and dogs, which made for quite the harrowing climb up the slippery marble steps of the tower. We highly recommend this excursion - it was terrific, and very well run.

The excursion was well managed and well organized. Our guide, Federico, was so friendly and fun, kept track of everyone and cut down on waiting in lines/waiting for others. Will 100% use this option with Viator instead of doing the cruise ship excursions which we found a huge waste of time and money due to size of group and waiting times.

Great Way to See Pisa & Lucaa - Recommend for Cruise Passengers!

This is a very convenient excursion for cruise travelers! We took the free shuttle from the Celebrity port in Livorno and it dropped us off right where the tour bus was meeting. We first went to Lucca, and took the walking tour. Lucca is a cute town, but there's not a ton to do there in 3 hours so we would recommend the tour if you are interested in learning about the history of the city and seeing some main highlights. Then, we drove to Pisa and got to see the leaning tower! We selected the option to go up into the tower and would HIGHLY recommend doing the same. You get so much more of a feel for the lean when you are climbing the steps! And you get to see nice views of the city. The tickets came with free entry to the nearby cathedral as well. Our guide (Frederico) was friendly and informative. Well worth the money for cruise travelers looking to get out of Livorno for a day trip!

Mateo (guide) and driver Stefano were excellent. Mateo can speak 3 or 4 languages and very personable. Did not no anything about Lucca but may have been my favorite place in Italy. Good value for the price, well organized just watch for pickpockets at the meeting place when you first meet at city centre
