What To Expect

Depart central London by comfortable, air-conditioned coach and journey into the English countryside.

As you travel, put on your state-of-the-art Vox headphones so you can clearly hear the commentary from your informative guide. Learn about the history of Oxford and Cambridge, and keep your headset on for both city walking tours so you can hear your guide even if you wander aside for photos.

On arrival in Oxford, enjoy a guided look at the honey-stoned college buildings of this famous 'city of dreaming spires.' Absorb the sense of tradition as you stroll through the elegant streets; hear about alumni such as the former US president, Bill Clinton; and see the picture-perfect quadrangles of Christchurch College, where some scenes from the Harry Potter movies were filmed. Wander past the buildings of the famous Bodleian library, one of Europe’s oldest libraries, and contemplate the symmetry of some of the most handsome college courtyards.

Next, venture east through rolling countryside to the university city of Cambridge, prettily situated on the Cam River. On route, hear how Cambridge University was founded in 1209, and uncover the long-held scholarly rivalry between it and its Oxford counterpart.

When you arrive, enjoy a guided tour of the best of the university buildings, many of them rising up from the greenery along the Cam, whose waters are a favored punting spot of students and visitors.
Head for King's College, founded in 1441 by King Henry VI, and marvel at its magnificent chapel. This soaring building is considered one of the greatest examples of late Gothic English architecture, and is a treasured emblem of the city.

Admire the views over the Cam, and check out other architectural showpieces, including the Bridge of Sighs. This stunning, 19th-century covered bridge is named after Venice’s Bridge of Sighs, and links the Third Court and New Court of St John’s College. Stroll further around the quaint streets and passageways to see other handsome buildings, and listen to their stories and secrets as recounted by your guide.

Afterward, return to London and end your tour with a drop-off at the start point.

Ilean was a good tour...
Swetha_K, Sep 2023
Ilean was a good tour guide who explained everything very well. She was also very informative and entertaining on the bus.
Great overview to two important places
Jay_H, Sep 2023
Good overview of both places. Exploration time is limited, but the guide provided background and context to the major sites and we felt the trip was fun and a valuable first visit.

Nida_S, Jul 2023
Very bad experienced. Horrible experience..waste of money. The guide is helpful but she took us cambridge first wasted so much of our time and spend 6 hours on road. No proper planning. We want our money back. This is totally waste of money trip.

Tour was cancelled. NO...

Cancelled trip the morning of departure; avoid this tour!
Aaron_W, Jun 2023
Our tour was cancelled late the night/early morning before it was scheduled, due to a lack of people. I didn't check my email in the morning before going (we didn't think it could be cancelled so late), so didn't find out until we arrived at Victoria Coach Station and asked a worker why the tour wasn't listed at any of the allotted gates! So, after clarifying that we would indeed receive a full refund, we decided to just hop on the Oxford Tube and spend the day there (foregoing Cambridge). That worked out well for far less money. If the company had given warnings a week or two beforehand that the tour was at risk of being cancelled due to low enrollment, it would've saved us a lot of hassle. We would've perhaps been able to plan better and get tickets into Christ Church (it was sold out by the time we were told the tour was cancelled). In any case, my advice is avoid this tour altogether!

Waste of time and money
Kristina_T, May 2023
We were told we were going to Cambridge first because we had a 1530 entry into Christ Church at Oxford. We had a short walking tour in Cambridge followed by an hour to explore. When asked again about our entry in Orford we were assured it was all set (even though the web page for Christ Church clearly stated they closed to the public at 1230). After leaving Cambridge and approaching Oxford we sat in construction traffic for approximately 40 minutes. We were told this was an unexpected delay even though Google maps showed the delay when leaving Cambridge and the roadway signs stated construction had begun in 2022. Upon arrival in Oxford we were told we didn't actually have tickets to Christ Church and that the college was closed. Our tour guide stated this too was unexpected and that we shouldn't be upset because entry actually was not included in most of our tickets. We had a rushed (20 minute) walking tour where we were told we were walking to slow and a bit over half an hour to explore and find our way back to the bus. Our tour guide seemed to be reciting from a script but often forget information (which she would say she forgot) or she would mix up names and dates. Overall the trip was a huge waste of time and money and I really wish I would have booked with a different company. Terrible planning and horrid guide.
Response from Host, May 2023
Kristina_T We are very sorry to hear your feedback about our tour to tour. What you describe is not in keeping with our usual high standards of guest experience, and certainly not in line with the vast number of positive reviews we usually receive for this tour. We would like to look into the matter to understand what happened. Please email details of your booking to reservations@evanevanstours.co.uk and we will investigate.

Worth the visit.

Fabulous tour great tour...
Cathryn_W, Jan 2023
Fabulous tour great tour guide but way too rushed I was just about running to keep up which made for a very uncomfortable and stressed guided tour I had to pull out for second half as I was too much I’m 64 and would not do it again
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Dear Cathry, We agree with you that we would love to allow more time in Windsor however, as I am sure the guide explained to you, we often refer to this tour as a ‘taster tour’ as it allows you to see three of the UK top attractions but due to distances covered, time at each location is limited. We do also offer tours that visit fewer venues and allow for a more leisurely visit (for example our tour to Stonehenge & Bath). Should you wish to travel with us again in the future we would be more than happy to recommend some of them to you. Thank you again and we send you our very best wishes, Evan Evans Team
Nice but little rushed
b_g, Dec 2022
It was a nice tour around Cambridge and Oxford. The tour is little rushed and does not leave much room for self exploration after the walk.
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Dear b_g, Thank you very much for the time you have taken to write us a review. We are glad that you had a good time in general. We often describe this tour as a ‘taster’ tour as due to the distances and also legislation around driving hours we are only able to allow a limited amount of time at each venue. It does however leave you wanting to come back for more. If that is the case we also run tours which visit less venues and where the distances are less (such as our tour to Stonehenge & Bath) which allow more time in each destination. If you would like any information on any future tours then we will be more than happy to send you some more information. Thank you, Evan Evans Team
A quick glance at two historic university towns of UK
Amali_W, Dec 2022
It was a wonderful day. At very first, when we were leaving london, Aldi , our guide gave a brief description about the landmark we are passing by. Also she came up with the history of the both university towns on our way to them. And interacting with the group with questions and stories she pointed out most of the remarkable places and things in the cities. And in both cities she guided us about an hour and we had about an hour to explore on our own. I highly recommend this tour for someone who have very limited time and need to grab a quick glimpse of the famous university towns of UK.
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Dear Amali_W, We would like to thank you for your kind words and for sharing it with the rest of the community. Our team works very hard to provide the best service and it makes us very happy that it reflected during your visit to our establishment. We hope you come visit us again soon! The worst Viator trip ever.
BRIAN_B, Jul 2022
This was absolutely the worst tour Viator has ever put me through and I’ve been on over 20 various Viator tours. Everything from the coach, the driver, the radio equipment and the tour guide was a complete waste. The Driver was uncaring and less than accommodating. The coach WiFi was inoperable and “Nobody knew” how to turn it on. I was on the very same coach 2 days earlier and everything worked fine. The radio equipment for the walking tours didn’t work properly. The tour guide was friendly but offered very little information and seemed not to care that we couldn’t hear anything she was saying. . She walked so fast during what little guided tour we had that the group was strung out, lost and Ill-informed of what we were seeing. I felt lost and disappointed as did many of the other tourists on this trip.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Dear Brian, Thank you for your feedback, which we will pass on. We believe our Contact Centre has already replied to you separately, but should you wish to discuss your experience further, please email us at reservations@evanevanstours.co.uk. Best wishes, Evan Evans Team
The coach was late and less time on sightseeing
Huiying_H, Jul 2022
Our coach was one hour and half late. The travel time is much more than the visits time on both campuses. We were rushed in both places.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Dear Huiying, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Indeed due to unforeseen circumstances, coach left late, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. However, we can reassure you that itinerary was completed as per schedule, so we are sorry that you feel it was rushed. If you wish to discuss your experience further, please do no hesitate to contact us at reservations@evanevanstours.co.uk Best wishes, Evan Evans Team
Should have went on my own
Shailesh_D, Apr 2022
We started 15 mins late from the scheduled departure(9.00 am) from London at 9.15 am and reached Cambridge at 11.15 am. Started the walking tour of Cambridge at around 11.30 am. The guide spent 45 mins with us telling the history in bits and peices. She then left us at 12.15 pm to explore the city on our own for rest of the time and asked us to return to the coach by 1.20 pm. We were also asked to have lunch during the same time which essentially meant we can either explore the city or have lunch. We left Cambridge at 1.25 pm and reached Oxford at 3.30 pm. The guide again spent just 30 mins explaining few details of different colleges and left us at 4.15 pm to explore the city on our own. We were asked to return back to the coach by 5.15 pm. Again you have the option to either have some snacks or explore the city. We departed from Oxford at 5.25 pm and reached London at 7.15 pm. The reason I opted for a guided walking tour was to get a good understanding of the history of both the universities and the important colleges from these universities. But I felt the guide was either not interested or didn't have much knowledge. Also I think the tour could have been managed more efficiently. Most of other tour operators depart from London at 8.15 am. This would give us more time in both the cities.
