The guided bike tour is great. The weather didn’t cooperate as there was a rain storm overnight and a big cloud cover at sunrise but it was still beautiful. Believe them when they say it’s cold up there! It was freezing so dress accordingly. The bike ride down is amazing. The smell of Eucalyptus trees, beautiful vistas of the island and the crater while riding through ranch country is quite an experience! Ryan and Tony are great guides. They kept us safe and provided history/facts about the island! The stop for breakfast was also a highlight with many options and some shopping. Highly recommend this adventure.. we did it with 3 teens and everyone was happy!

Unforgettable Experience!
Sue_B, Mar 2023
Watching the vibrant colors of the sunrise was an experience that I will never forget!!! In spite of having to get up at the wee hours of the morning and the wind that took our breath away as we were waiting for the sun to rise, it was well worth it! The bike ride down was also an experience that I will never forget. Our guide, Russell, was great! He was so positive and reassuring on our ride, and we learned quite a bit about the Maui environment!
Biking

Was fun seeing the sun rise above the clouds and riding the bike down the volcano. But there was too much driving and not enough biking. Would prefer to have been on the bike the entire time. Did not enjoy being in a van for more of the time and biking a short amount of time.

The guides are so knowledgeable and kind. They guided us along the way with tips. At each stop gave us details for the upcoming leg.

Was a great time with a friendly and helpful staff. The staff made the trip. It might seem intimidating but it truly is not bad. I would highly suggest the guided tour as they use a van to block traffic most of the time to allow you to use the entire lane of the road.
Must do

Absoutely amazing experience. Between the bus ride and the bike tour I would definitely say it was an amazing way to start off our trip. So informative so much fun.

Do the guided tour vs. self guided (less rules to remember and you don’t have to worry about cars coming up behind you)!
Amazing trip !!

Loved this trip!! It was cold and drizzly that morning so we could not see the sunrise unfortunately but still got a nice trip and pics. You get rain/wind breaker, highly recommended to wear them. It is an hour drive but Chris kept us entertained with his stories. The kids were so miserable and mad but it was short lived, they love the bike ride down. It’s mostly all down hill and very little uphill. I was able to do it even with an almost healed broken ankle. Ryan was our bike leader and he was amazing! It was beautiful! We stopped for lunch and then had 3 miles left. The kids said it was the greatest trip ever and want to go again. Get the guided so they stop traffic for you. Bring hand warmers for the top. Will definitely recommend!!
Beautiful experience

It was worth getting up very early to see those colors. Make sure you dress warm because it gets down close to freezing up there and the wind can be fierce. If you have any type of motion sickness, be prepared to deal with that on the way up.

Our guides were absolutely amazing!!! If you have either Rory or Ryan you will leave knowing more about Maui than you thought possible! Everyone was very polite and really cared about our safety!! We weren’t just customers to them, we were ohana!
The sun like you've never seen it before
Kent_H, May 2022
This is a once-in-a-lifetime must! It's an experience you don't want to miss but practice getting on a bike if you haven't in a longtime BEFORE you go. Group is organized and keeps everyone safe but it did get cold so wear layers. The Hawaiian chanting when the sun rose was a nice surprise.
Totally worth it. Get up and go!

I was pessimistic about this whole thing going into it, but I had a great time and overall experience. The sunrise was something reverent. It’s a special place with a profound experience— like watching the sunrise at the Grand Canyon or Crater Lake. Everyone else there was respectful of the space and allowed for a time of quiet contemplation of the dawn’s new light. The van driver was informative and interactive. He offered to take photos of all of the groups and was an experienced photographer who seemed to catch great moments for people. (I declined the photo sessions because that’s just not my thing.) After the sun rose, we went to a different spot for more photos and a different perspective of the volcano. The sky and landscape was brilliant and otherworldly. We got back in the van afterwards and went to the meetup spot to get our bikes and split off into groups that seemed to be based on experience. Drew was the tour guide for our group, and his presence is really what sealed the deal for me. He’s an experienced cyclist and biker who let us stop to smell the roses along the way and kept an upbeat personality the whole time. He groaned at his own dad-jokes and was informative with his own twist on the landscape, fauna, and flora. He also showed the utmost regard for everyone’s safety and good time. He also took everyone’s prior riding experience into account. I ride motorcycles and road bikes throughout Los Angeles all the time, which he acknowledged and knew that I didn’t need to be beaten over the head with info about safety measures. Anyone at any time has the option to stop the bike ride and ride along in the van at any point. A few people did, and still had a great time. One lady didn’t ride at all, but was there for the sunrise and wanted to share the experience with her husband, who did ride the whole way down. We stopped in a little town for a break, and then continued the last five miles of the ride. I had a great time and recommended this trip to a bunch of other people at the resort yesterday before writing the review today. NOTE: Believe them when they say it is cold at the top. Bring layers of clothes and gloves. Bring rain gear. Get adequate sleep the night before. Getting up at 2:00 AM to go ride a bicycle for 23 miles sucks. Be prepared for your endeavor and you’ll have a great time. Again, I can’t say enough good things about Drew. Thanks dude!!!!
Fun (fast) bike ride

First off they make safety a priority. Sunrise up there is beautiful. Our driver Rory was very informed and talked about a little of everything to do with Haleakala and Maui. Our bike guide Julio was also terrific. They took some cool photos of us. You stop in a cute town on the way down The van follows you down in case you can't make it. Very fun!
Disappointed
Michael_C, Feb 2022
I booked this for my husband and I because it was his first visit to Hawaii and I hoped it would be a wonderful way to see the sights. The sunrise was truly magnificent to see, but the bike ride was very disappointing. We were rushed down, sometimes at over thirty miles an hour, with next to no opportunities to enjoy the view or take pictures. It often felt unsafe. If you are looking to go at your own pace this is not for you.
Breathtaking Sunrise on Haleakala
Sue_J, Feb 2022
Sunrise was beautiful and amazing! The tour guide was wonderful provided great information on Hawaii’s culture, history, and geography. Make sure to dress warmly ( in layer)!
Go for it!

The whole experience was once in a lifetime! The sunrise and the bike ride down the volcano was incredibly memorable.
May not be worth it
Nicole_S, Dec 2021
We didn’t get to see the sunrise because it was a very cloudy day, so I can’t speak to that, I have heard it was awesome. The day itself was nice, the ride is easy if you are a biker that isn’t scared of occasional adjacent cars and some speed. All downhill, almost no pedaling. This is definitely not a workout. The issue really is that the cost was not worth it, I would do this again if it was $75. I paid $250 and what was offered was definitely not worth it. No lunch or breakfast snacks included either, which just seems nickel and dimey because of the cost. My family was fine because we brought our own snacks and water, but other people in our group were getting lightheaded and very hungry. The tour was 8 hours, but the actual riding was 1.5-2 hours. Took more time and money out of my trip than it was worth. Also, the other group with us did this before and said it was much better previously, the lavender field was no longer available due to Covid. The driver and the guides were very nice and informative, nothing against any of the staff. They were all lovely.
Don’t miss this experience!!!

The Haleakala Tour was incredible!!! Our guide on the way up the volcano was extremely knowledgeable and shared some fascinating facts and stories for the entire trip. The bike ride down the volcano was so much fun!! The entire family really enjoyed not only the ride but our instructor Russell who was great!!! He made the downhill bike tour oh really fun and memorable experience!!
