GORGEOUS view of the setting sun from atop Haleakala.
Susan_T, Mar 2023
The sunset was beautiful beyond words. To say it may be cold is an understatement, travelers to the top MUST take very warm clothing. The view is worth the climb (and the temperature).
Fun trip!
Vince_C, Mar 2023
The driver was fantastic, cousin Mitch was fun to listen to as we drove up the mountain. We had some clouds and didn’t get a full view of the sunset but the on the drive down, the clouds parted and it was beautiful.
Hattie is outstanding! What a woman!
Sandra_P, Feb 2023
Nettie was our driver. She was outstanding. So very knowledgeable and entertaining. She even sang for us and played the ukulele. She told us the history of the Hawaiians and demonstrated how much she loved the mountain. She actually made the trip wonderful! The weather was so bad that our sunset was very cold and rainy. We did very much enjoy the ride up the mountain. So glad we went!
Sunset Tour OK but no National Park VC
Kathy_C, Feb 2023
Our tour guide, Nettie, was very pleased with herself and continually told us how experienced, knowledgeable, and wonderful she was. But we didn’t get to the National Parks Visitor Center because she was too busy talking and sucking up for tips while poorly singing with her ukulele. Sunset was very nice though. Disappointing overall. Had really wanted to get to the NPS Visitor Center and had called to confirm that we would be able to with this tour. But it didn’t happen thanks to our tour guide and her talking and waiting and talking and waiting….

The guides knowledge and the sunset, the least favorite was changing vans several times and only having 20 minutes to enjoy the summit due sitting in traffic for 2 hours

Bruce_C, Jan 2023
Getting dropped off at Safeway to find our own food (dinner) was not okay in my opinion. It was good to have a heated van to take shelter in at the top of Haleakala.

Our tour guide Mitch was fabulous. Very knowledgeable about area and knew where to direct us for good viewing of sunset. Also directed us to park rangers to get our National Park passport stamped.
Sunset Hawaiian Style
Camille_G, Dec 2022
Our driver, Cousin Mitch, showed us a wonderful time! We learned about the area along the way. We stopped at a market. Then, it was all topped off with a gorgeous sunset. Living on Lake Michigan, I am fortunate to enjoy beautiful sunsets, but it was so different to be above the cloud line and see such beauty. Mitch knew where to get the best photos. I was also thankful for his expert driving skills, especially on this long and winding road.
Don't leave the sunset to early
Jeffrey_A, Nov 2022
The ring of fire around the volcano was spectacular. Even after the sun goes below the clouds, stick around. It's worth the wait.
Sunset over sunrise
Jenny_G, Oct 2022
Do the sunset tour instead of the sunrise tour! You get way more sky colors and you start at 2pm instead of 2am :) cousin Mitch was great and shared a lot of stories with us.
Tour, a bit long but worth every minute.

Knowledgeable tour guide. Pleasant ride. Beautiful scenery filled with amazing creations from God! Happy that it wasn't as chilly as expected.
Breathtaking

Uncle Mitch was great! Pickup was on time, the organizers were really organized and friendly. The bus was really comfortable. The pictures don’t do it justice!
Expensive Bus Trip
Steph_L, Sep 2022
Over priced! This was a very expensive bus trip. Nothing included! Did other tours for less with at least drinks included! No real commentary from driver/guide! But still asked for tips! Long drive picking up and then later dropping off… And sadly weather was not on our side so no sunset!

Stunning Haleakala Sunset
Shelby_B, Jun 2022
Our guide, Mitch, was so personable and a wealth of information about the local landscape as well as Hawaiian culture. His van was very comfortable and on the way home, the music from a local Hawaiian artist was soothing and enjoyable. Haleakala did not disappoint as we had great weather for viewing the gorgeous sunset in such surreal natural surroundings. If you’re not up to the early wake up call for the sunrise (I’ve done both now), this is a fabulous alternative! Just be sure to bring snacks or buy some at the quaint market stop, as dinner is not included due to the fact that the restaurant they used to partner with closed as a result of the pandemic.
Breath taking views
Ben_H, Jun 2022
Breath taking. This was a great trip to the top of the volcano and to be that high, above the clouds, and to see the sunset, was priceless. The drive was quite long but that's just part of the trip. It's still scenic driving up the volcano. It's pretty cold up there, especially the night we went, and obviously windy, so at a minimum, take a jacket or hoodie, maybe nothing loose like a cap or glasses as they could blow away. Beautiful sites and scenes and the crater was fantastic. Tour guide was great, informative, and apologetic due to slight delay which was caused by confusion at the dispatch office. Would recommend this trip for couples and families.
Poor
Laura_B, Jun 2022
We were unable to get a hold of the company to explain our transport to the pick up might be a little late and to see if they could wait or pick us up somewhere else. The driver of the transport was from the same company of the tour and told me I had to call that he was unable to call dispatch. I found this disappointing that he wasn't willing to help us out. We ended up missing our ride therefore was unable to to make the Haleakala Sunset tour. I called twice while on the way to the pick up spot and noone answered the phone. I also emailed 2x right away and have never heard from the company.

A must do
Virginia_F, May 2022
This is definitely a must do. Our guide was great and the views were awesome. Take a jacket as it is cold at the 9740 foot elevation. The tour busses are not allowed allowed to go to the top but it is still great as I have done it in both spots.
A lot of bus time!
mededmfs, May 2022
The teeny tiny glimpse of the sun at the summit. After a very long bus ride with the guide who was nice and informative, we reached the summit at 41 degrees in rain. Everyone was cold and miserable and in such weather there’s nothing to see. Obviously this is not the tour operators fault. But, at this price point, water should be complementary ( it isn’t) and the guide should walk around the summit with the guests ( he doesn’t) For the price of this tour, to me, it’s too iffy whether you’ll get a view of the sunset to risk it. Who wants to spend over 6 hours in a bus for ultimately nothing ? Find other ways to spend your tour dollars, IMO.
