Overview

Watching the sunrise at Haleakala Crater is a note-to-be-missed experience, which is only made better by hopping on a bike and riding back down to the beach. Begin early with a pre-dawn pickup before making the winding journey in the dark to the 10,023 ft. summit. As the horizon begins to slowly turn red, then gradually to orange and yellow, the lunar beauty of Haleakala Crater begins to come into view. After the sun has crested the eastern horizon and bathed the crater in light, ride back down to the national park boundray.

Bring warm clothing (actual winter stuff) because this tour gets you up there early enough so you can get a good spot to view the sunrise.
It was freezing and uncomfortable at times so bring many layers, warm scarf and a warm hat.
Really worth the early wake up to get there and get the great viewing point

In addition to wonderful views and sites, the tour guides were awesome! So much fun and very informative. This was a great way to transition into the time zone coming from the east coast USA. On our first morning waking up in Maui, our bodies were naturally ready to wake up at 3AM, making this tour the perfect start to our day/trip!

Good ride with scenic views

The tour was well organized and good. Unfortunately, the weather was very bad up on the summit and we could not see a thing in the chilly winds and cloud cover. But the guides are very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the bike ride down the mountain. It was scenic, safe and informative.

Incredible and thrilling experience! We do not ride bikes very often, but are fairly active otherwise. Still, we were both a little nervous about the bike tour. The tour guide helped make us feel comfortable on the bikes the entire ride! The road is well paved and the bikes felt safe. Pick up was smooth and the shuttle driver was friendly, and gave tips about the bike ride to help us feel prepared. We were one of the first groups to arrive at the viewing location, and were able to enjoy the amazing pre-sunrise colors huddled behind the shelter of building and out of the chilly wind. The bike tour was a highlight of our trip to Maui. The views on ride down the mountain are stunning and the ride itself is very fun. Pack your warm layers and don’t hesitate - book this bike tour!

What a beautiful sun rise!!! The bus driver, Billy, was a delight and gave wonderful tidbits about the culture, as well as helpful advice about the bike ride down while transporting us to the summit. Our bike tour guide, Manny, took our safety seriously and was very personable. As a trauma nurse, I was apprehensive at first. With our guide in front and the van following behind us, I didn’t worry on the ride down. It was fun and exhilarating!! It was the perfect excursion with the perfect bike guide and drivers.

YOU NEED TO BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE WITH MOUNTAIN RIDERS. 10/10, 5 stars, 100% must try on your visit to Maui. You start on a van ride up to the top of Haleakala at around 3AM. We thought we'd be miserable but it was the opposite. Abe made sure anyone with motion sickness felt comfortable and frequently checked in with us as we made our way up to over 9,500ft of altitude. I normally have motion sickness and I felt totally fine! Then, you get there early enough to essentially get a front row seat to the sunrise. we got there early enough to also see a full sky of stars before the pre-dawn light. phenomenal!! wasn't packed or windy. BUT KEEP IN MIND.. it is not Mountain Riders responsibility or fault if it is windy or colder than usual. It is going to be cold so make sure you bring appropriate clothing with you. even bring a blanket from your hotel! regardless what weather, you're going to have a great experience. Then, you get back in the van and go down to about 7,000 ft altitude and meet your bike rider instructor who takes you down about 25 miles via bike. they go over everything and make you feel sooooo comfortable. I'm unsure how to spell everyones names but they are beyond amazing. they make you feel great and they're so personable and only want you to have a great time. we stopped in a town for breakfast which was also great. overall, I was nervous to begin with but we're so happy we did this on our honeymoon and I'd recommend this to anyone! My computer is giving me a hard time posting pictures, but will try to upload to really show how amazing this experience was!

It was a great experience . We were well before time to view the sunrise and 45 min - 1Hr before sunrise with great colors. Our driver Alika was very informative and happy to guide us . The bike tour downhill was unexpectedly super fun. We were a bit nervous at start but the instructor was very good and the bicycles itself are very easy to ride downhill. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling.

Our tour guide was great! He made the tour so much fun! We loved the bike ride. It went by almost too quickly! What an experience to get to the bottom of the mountain and think you started your day at the summit and traveled all the down. The highlight of our Maui trip! Thank you for an amazing tour! The summit is freezing and the winds strong. Pack winter hats and mittens. You’ll be thankful you did. My summer clothes and light jacket didn’t hold up to those low temps!

The sunrise was spectacular and the guides from the bus ride up to the top and the bike ride down were excellent. The stories they shared about the history and living on Maui made the experience really memorable.

I love the trip I wish I could remember the woman who runs the office and drives the van because I loved her I wanted to say her name is Lena but it probably isn’t I also want to give a shout out to Billy he’s so cute and made everybody feel really special especially me because I was scared of the speed on the way down and he put me up front with him so the whole team is amazing I can’t say enough I will do it again five stars 20 stars !!!

If you’re scared of the bike ride, you can ride in the van no problem. In fact, it’s safer for you and all the other riders if you ride in the van when you’re unsure. Sunrise was beautiful and the guides took awesome care of everyone. Don’t be fooled by the fun, though… it’s very dangerous and is best for experienced bike riders. It’s the date/time that worked for us, so we booked knowing we would likely not ride the bikes but we had to see the sunrise!!! 🌞😍
