Mile Marker 19 off Highway 30 (Honopi'ilani Highway), two miles south of Lahaina at a surf spot known to locals as 'Guardrails.' Note: GPS locations do not work with the mile markers on Highway 30 (Honopi'i'ani Hwy), where the beach is located. Directions: From Lahaina/Kaanapali/Kapalua resort areas: Drive two miles south of Lahaina on Highway 30 Honoapiiliani Highway. Look for Puamana Beach Park on the ocean side. The meeting location is called 'Guardrails,' which is located 500 yards past Puamana Beach Park, on the ocean side, exactly across from mile marker 19 off of Highway 30 Honoapiiliani Highway. There is a little gravel parking lot to park. The instructor will be at this location 10 minutes prior to the start time of the surf lesson. Check in 10 minutes early at 'Guardrails' surf spot, Mile Marker 19, Highway 30 (Honopi’ilani Hwy). This should provide enough time to apply sunscreen and let it sink in before getting in the sun and water. The instructor will be in the parking area 10-minutes before the lesson start time. For example, if the lesson starts at 9:20am, the instructor will be there at 9:10am.

My husband and I got to cross this off our bucket list. We’re 40+ and with Kodys teaching skills we were both able to catch a few waves and both of us got up at least 3-4 times. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

Both my wife and I had a fantastic experience! Day to day surf conditions may differ and our instructor texted us the morning of to inform us of a location change for our lesson. Stephanie, our instructor, was able to bring us up to speed on all the basics quickly. My wife and I were first-time surfers and with Stephanie's guidance, both my wife and I were able to stand up on our boards and ride most of the way to shore on our first try! Make sure you eat way in advance for these lessons. Eat some bananas! Paddling out to sea was one of the most grueling experiences and I almost gave up several times because my arms were just exhausted. Stephanie also assisted by towing my wife further away from the shore after her arms gave out which was greatly appreciated. The only con for me was that my arms were not conditioned for the exercise. If I were able to paddle to sea faster, would have been able to catch more waves, have more fun and maybe also be less sore.

Anne Marie was an excellent and patient instructor. My 16 & 18 year took the lesson and we’re first time surfers. One is athletically inclined and one less so; both were able to get up on their boards within 10 minutes in the water after a quick beach tutorial. Plenty of waves at the location for prime practice opportunity. They were happy that rash guards and reef shoes were provided.

Anne-Marie is the best. Would definitely recommend this experience to any one who wants to learn or experience surfing for a first time to surf and are cautious or even hesitant. She was very patient with my boys- although older (teen/young adult). It was me who was more nervous, but she definitely eased my mind. She is very thoughtful in explaining and aware of the circumstances of the ocean and put my mind at ease explaining how things would be done. A definite must try for those even considering this as a "bucket list" item.

Izzy was our instructor and she was awesome and has a nice relaxed way of instructing. She texted us the day before to change location a few more miles down the coast due to better weather conditions. She was extremely helpful on any and all tips. Surfing was super easy thanks to her help, the hardest part was the paddling which Izzy had told us prior to the lesson. Normally she says no to go pros because they're really hard to hold onto while also learning to surf but she was super nice enough to take our go pro herself and video us a few times. I would definitely recommend having her as our instructor again.
