What To Expect

Board a van and travel with your archeologist-guide from Mexico City to Teotihuacan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also known as the City of the Gods. A former Mesoamerican indigenous civilization that predates the Maya and Aztecs, Teotihuacan was once the largest city in Mexico, reaching its heyday in the 1st century CE (AD) when the Sun Pyramid was constructed.

Be one of the first visitors to arrive at the archeological park, right when it opens. In relative tranquility, wander through plazas and discover the pyramids without jostling around crowds. Enjoy taking unobstructed photos of must-see structures like the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, also known as the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, as well as the Palace of Quetzalpapalot.

Gain special insight into the complex’s less-visited monuments, including intricate murals and other architectural nuances. Hear about the latest archeological discoveries, the lifestyles of the inhabitants of this ancient city and theories behind the city’s decline.

Huff your way up the Sun Pyramid and the Moon Pyramid, the main axis of Teotihuacan. From the top, enjoy your bird’s-eye vantage point of the Avenue of the Dead, the primary road that runs through the center of the city, which separated the city and stretched from the Moon Plaza in the north to the Great Compound in the south.

After your Teotihuacan tour, hop aboard your transport and head to an obsidian workshop to learn more about the black volcanic rock native to the area. Chat with a local family and sample several liqueurs made from cactus, as well as mezcal, tequila, and pulque. For lunch, select from a variety of traditional Mexican dishes (own expense), before enjoying transport back to the central meeting point.

Perfection says it all

Incredible experience. Our guide Diana gave the English tour, while Emanuel gave the Spanish one, and Antonio drove us. The tour at Teotihuacan was excellent, Diana gave us so much information regarding the ancient city, her presentation was great and I wish we could've stayed there longer. I really liked how Diana was so eager to answer all of my questions. The tequila tasting and other drinks was also so culturally enriching, learning about Pulque through the amazing Aníbal, the guide there. At this stop, one of the employees there, Juan, even took to me to an ATM to withdraw cash. He was great. I would recommend this experience with Amigo Tours without thinking twice to anyone I know.
Great tour, wish we skipped lunch

The tour was very informative but we were quite pressed for time at the end. Managed to get through most of the teotihuacan and learned a lot about the history of the area. Our guild was extremely knowledgeable. Tequilas tasting was fun, I found things to be reasonably priced for a tourist shop. Lunch however soured my whole experience of the trip. The food was overpriced and not that good. I ended up with an over cooked steak smothered in tomato sauce. You’re forced to stay at the restaurant after all the activities are finished for about an hour and a half. And by the time everyone is finished eating the traffic back into the city was at its peak. Would have much preferred to go straight back to the city after the tequila tasting.

The tour was well organised so no complaints. There was enough stops, always told what time to be back at the bus and the tequila tasting and lunch was good. We were informed the lunch was extra so knew we had to pay. However by it being dual language it was difficult to follow and we found this affected the experience. This is obviously not Viators fault but for anyone else thinking of booking a dual language tour. I would also suggest you need a real interest in Teotihuacan and the history as overall we were underwhelmed by the site. So be aware as there is no sun coverage and lots of walking up and down steps. Recommend to book either a private tour or one in your own language.

Very thoughtfully crafted tour. Fernanda & Alex were great! Appreciated the stops for breakfast snacks & lunch goodies. The site was AMAZING — great to see early in the day before too many other tourists were there/it got too hot. Be sure to wear sunscreen and closed-toes shoes. Bring water!

Alejandra was the guide in English during my tour and she was fantastic. It’s a great idea to do the early tour to Tihuacan to best the crown and the heat. You then top it off with some tequila and mezcal tastings - a really fun time!

I loved that our tour guide was extremely well prepared. I also loved the pulque and mezcal tasting and all of the information I learned about the mezcal plant. I think that tour guides should tell their groups when climbing up a steep pyramid, that they won’t have to climb a second one. Incredible place to visit, and I enjoyed the tour very much.

Solid experience with friendly staff

Overall this was a good experience. The van was nice, the driver was good and guide were very nice. I’d recommend this tour if you’re looking for an experience and photo opportunity, however I found myself having to Google information and fact check a few items. Again, I’d recommend this tour company for a friendly experience but if you really want a deep dive into the history I’d suggest coming prepared to research.

We had a great trip on April 18th. Lillian was our guide. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about Teotihuacan. She was approachable and answered all our questions. The other guide was great. He took the Spanish speaking group. The bus was on time and comfortable. I was amazed at Danny’s driving skills. He drove a huge bus like a compact car. Sunscreen and a hat are a must. It gets hot with no shade. Be prepared for vendors walking all through the park. If you don’t want to buy anything, don’t make eye contact and keep walking. They will leave you alone. This is very common in Mexico parks.

Lily was knowledgeable in this tour. However when I asked for clarification on something she was annoyed by the question and reminded me that she had explained it. Obviously if I needed clarification I didn't understand the explanation the first time. Didn't have much free time to explore. Spent too much time on the pyramid of the moon. Bus driver was rude.

The trip was good, Gerson was the tour guide and did a great job. I would have prefeared to be more time in the field instead to go to the market to taste tequila. The place to have lunch was good.

It was a great experience. The bus show up on-time and check-in process was pretty smooth. You do have to show your Viator voucher just in case you didn't download it ahead of time. On the way there, the guide showed us some sights along the way. We were one of the first groups there and walked the whole way from one end to the other end of the pyramids. It was a bit too bad we didn't get enough time to go to the museum. Maybe it was me, the complex history of the culture or just understanding the guide, I didn't feel like I truly appreciated or understood the history behind it. Guess I have to go home and read some books about it to understand better. We got on the bus at 6:20, got to the 2nd pick-up location at 6:50 and bus started moving around 7:15. Got to the first 20 minute highway service area at about 8:15 and in the parking lot of the pyramid at 8:55. The pyramid walk wrap-up at 11:10 and we have free time until 11:30. We then boarded the bus to a restaurant right near the entrance and had the usual tour sponsored purchase stop for Tequila, souvenirs and restaurant to purchase lunch. Got back on the bus at 1:30 and back to the pick-up area at 3:00.

The trip via highway coach was enjoyable and comfortable. The guides were friendly. The site is amazing and we were so glad to have seen the pyramids. The problem was we paid extra to take an English language only tour. We arrived at the meet-up early. The line formed behind us and when the bus arrived, guests were boarded in reverse order of when they arrived. The bus was overbooked and we were put on the Spanish bus. The guide made a few passing comments in English but we clearly did not get what we'd paid for. We did have the English guide at the site so that was good. Also, a tequila tasting was included as part of the tour. What they didn't say was that we'd be subjected to about an hour of promotion for other goods before having lunch. I'd like to receive a refund for the extra funds I paid.
