What To Expect

Meet your guide at the Hostel Mundo Joven facade. Begin your insider tour of the city's best markets the way the locals do:

Your first stop is a market that even some locals don't know about. As you have a look around, learn about the context of this place in Mexican social and political history in the early 20th century. Hear about the market's connection to prominent Mexico City historical figures Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

Jump back on public transport and head to the 3 in 1 flower market. Continue a few blocks to a market that has 3 parts: flowers, fresh produce and prepared food. Ask one of the vendors in the largest flower market in the city to pick out some flowers that match your eye color. Stroll through the warren of stalls chock full of local products, atole, taco, huarache dish, tamales and pineapple tepache as you walk.

Last stop is a local patio for some more food samples, also a cooking spicy hand-on class ensuring you won't end your 5-hour tour hungry.

Friendly and Informative
Joakim_B, Apr 2023
I had a good experiance, i was about 7min late and the host was still waiting for me, so that was a pleasant surprice. The tour have a lot more infiormation about the city, history and art, then i thought when reading about the tour. You do get to do everything that is stated on the tour if you want to. The host was very friendly and was intresting to talk to. He also seemed keened on that you should have a good time. It's for sure a nice experiance to do if you are in Mexico City. If i would have any kind of constructive criticism it's that everything felt so well planed and flowing on in a steady pase, that it felt i didn't really have time to stop and look at the shops in the markets to maybe buysome stuff. But still five out of five stars. Kind regards all the way from Sweden
Solo woman traveler.

I had a great time and learned a lot about Mexico City and the markets and subway system from my beautiful guide. My only suggestion would be that we only made one salsa. I was expecting to make a few different ones that I would not have experienced before. I am from Tucson so my expections might have been a bit different from most tourist.
You won’t regret this tour!!

As a solo traveler I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone thinking of visiting CDMX! It was my first tour of my trip and really set the tone for the coming weeks! Esteban is super knowledgeable and very well versed on all of the murals and market activity! Fernando and his family were so welcoming and kind when teaching us how to make authentic salsa! 10/10!
A wonderful food and history tour.

Alfonso “Poncho” was a fantastic guide explaining everything we saw and was so helpful shepherding our group. Loved the food. It was very educational and would highly recommend. Loved the Mercado Jamaica flowers and making the hursche. It was a little bit of everything with a knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend.
A great time!

We had an amazing time, and we would highly recommend this tour to anybody interested in a truly authentic cultural experience in Mexico City. Great guide! Great food! The whole tour takes about 5 hours overall, which is just the right amount of time. We (a family of two adults and two kids, one preteen and one teen) couldn’t be more pleased.

Sampling new dishes in really authentic surroundings. It was a lot of fun and our guide brought it all alive
Tasty, informative, individually tailored, super friendly vendors and tour guide.

Learning the history of all the sights was awesome. Such an in depth and enriching conversation about Mexican history and the present. Food was amazing of course and the vendors were very generous. I had so many questions and the tour guide really packed in tons of information during our trip.
Wish I booked it earlier!

This was a great tour of different food markets in CDMX, not only was the food delicious, but I got to meet and talk with a lot of locals. My guide, Alfonso was super knowledgeable about the area and it was really useful to learn how to navigate the metro.
Great first experience
Marta_I, Sep 2022
Our tour guide, Adriana, was knowledgeable, helpful, and patient with all of our questions. We felt well-cared for right away as she took care of all details including food and metro ride. Above all, the ability to understand how the culture of art, food, people, and history have developed into the complex society that is Mexico. Recommend this tour 1000%. Bring comfortable shoes and small denominations for shopping.
Delicious and educational

Poncho was an amazing guide. His enthusiasm for the history of Mexico City, and the clever ways he tied it to the food made this an unforgettable educational experience. We saw hidden murals, got comfortable with the metro, and of course ate amazing food. What a blast!
A morning in the City

Excellent private tour, lots of great history and culture information. Definitely recommend, perfect for small groups of 3 or less…..we’ve taken tours like this in the past in other cities with bigger groups but the smaller/private group is where it’s at!
What’s not to like?
Sharon_S, May 2022

Alphonso's knowledge of history and how he wove it interestingly in our tour is amazing. He was always calm, smiling and made this tour amazing!
Highly Recommended Cultural Experience
Juan_B, May 2022
Had an amazing experience with Nathan our guide. We met at the meeting point right on time and proceeded on an educational and tasty tour of the markets. He was very knowledgable about the history of everything we saw along the way and gave us a local's take on life in Mexico throughout the ages. The food was also incredible and not something we would have normally discovered on our own.
