What To Expect

Coyoacán, National University, and Frida Kahlo Museum

After meeting your guide in downtown Mexico City, your full-day tour kicks off at Coyoacán, which dates back to pre-Hispanic times. Admire 16th-century mansions along cobblestone streets, and learn about one of Mexico City’s oldest neighborhoods from your informative guide. Today, the area has blossomed into a cultural nexus for intellectuals and artists.

Visit the National Autonomous University of Mexico, built-in 1551, and check out the UNESCO-listed Central Campus, a collaboration that came together in 1952 involving more than 60 engineers, architects, and artists, including muralists Diego Rivera and Juan O´Gorman.

Next, head over to Jardín Hidalgo, and enjoy a lunch break here (own expense) in the garden area boasting restaurants, studios, and craft stalls. Next, enter the church of San Juan Bautista with your guide and admire the paintings inside.

A fan of Frida Kahlo? At Coyoacán Casa Azul (Blue House), or the Frida Kahlo Museum, immerse yourself in the tumultuous life and iconic artwork of this beloved artist. It is here where Kahlo lived and loved with her husband, Diego Rivera. Enjoy an hour of free time in the museum.

Xochimilco

Your Mexico City sightseeing adventure continues at Xochimilco, located 17 miles (28 km) south of Mexico City, a waterway network of floating gardens of flowers. An ecological reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage site, this valley was a lake during Aztec times. To get around the scarcity of arable soil back then, the people developed chinampas, islands with floating reed mats with soil.

Spend about an hour drifting peacefully along the canals and admiring the chinampas from your colorful, flat-bottomed boat called a trajinera. Hear festive music from other boats, occupied by families and visitors celebrating weddings, birthdays and other happy occasions.

As your boatman moves the vessel along by pulling a pole through the water, pass other painted vessels transporting passengers and check out boat-vendors selling fresh food. Enjoy an array of dishes and drinks for purchase, including roasted corn, mole, mixiote (barbequed meat), tacos, carnitas, quesadillas, pulque (milk-colored alcoholic beverage) and micheladas (Mexican beer-based cocktail).

Your day tour ends with drop-off back at the central meeting points.

Good in parts
Ann_B, Jun 2023
Unscheduled stops to outlets not signed up for. University & Frida Khalo stops very interesting. Canal boats way too busy - all we saw was other canal boats
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Dear Ann_B Thanks for letting us know your opinion, we are sorry that the itinerary did not fully meet your expectations. We will be working hard to improve our services. Mariana, Amigo tours
Pleasant experience
Martha_O, Jun 2023
The driver and tour guide we had were very considerate, comfortable bus. We would like to have had more time to buy stuff in the market next to the water channels.
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Dear Martha_O Thank you so much for taking the time to rate the experience, it was a pleasure to share it with you! Mariana, Amigo tours
Too much valuable time lost by tourist traps for the tour operator to have extra income
John_R, May 2023
Jerson was a great guide, but he cannot help that we started with a detour costing an hour to see a tourist trap silver shop where prices are at least 3x those elsewhere. The lumch place selected by the operator was also poor and too expensive (tour operator probably get big kickbacks). There was way too little time to stroll around Coyoacan. Some of the tour skipped the return drive and enjoyed more time here. The boat tour was great fun.
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear John_R We are so sorry to know that you did not enjoy the itinerary. We will considerate your feedback to improve our services. Thank you. Mariana, Amigo tours

Great visit to Frida...
sajidmaqsood268, May 2023
Great visit to Frida Kahlo museum with advanced tickets. Time to see Coyoacan is limited due to travel time between pickup and places of visit. Should skip the visit to a silver jewelers store to allow more time for touring.. Riding the Tajinara is a lot of fun, especially with the Mariachis. Excellent English and Spanish tour guides. Long day.
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear sajidmaqsood268 It is a pleasure for the whole team to know how satisfactory this experience was for you. Thank you for giving us your trust, we deeply appreciate it. Mariana, Amigo tours

FAVORITE DAY IN Mexico
Wendy_C, May 2023
Out Hostess and Driver were Ruben Juan and Yair, they were great! The way they explained the History of Mexico in each monument and place was very good! In the Xochimilco boat they helped us manage the money for the Mariachi’s which isn’t their Job but did it without thinking twice! Everything went good and they had a solution for every problem even if there were almost none
Response from Host, May 2023
Amig@ Wendy_C Excellent comment, thank you very much for letting us know your point of view and your experience. It has been a pleasure to serve you. Dulce, Amigo Tours

Not great if Frida museum is the main goal
volha_s, May 2023
If what you really want to do is Friday Kahlo museum, it’s not a good option for you. This involves 8 hours of driving around and many stops at local markets with souvenirs shopping for hours so the actual activity time is not much. Unless of course you are interested in markets and shopping. I wanted to see Frida Kahlo museum and maybe a couple of local things but the main part was so unimpressive, I had to leave after 8 hours and missed the opportunity to see the museum as tickets need to be booked month in advance
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear volha_s We deeply regret to know that the itinerary did not meet your expectations. Thnaks for letting us know your feedback, we will certainly keep it in mind. Mariana, Amigo tours

More cultural would better
Szeiber_L, May 2023
It was a “hopp- on / hopp - of” bus tour with silver shop and restaurant visit. Unfortunately the Frida Kahlo museum was just 1 hour. My expectation was bit more time for culture …in a City of Museums The guides were super nice and prepared from the history of Mexico City . Bus was clean , driver has a safe stile to drive
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear Szeiber_L, we are sorry to know that your experience has not been 5 stars, thank you for sending us your comments, which we will take into consideration for future tours, have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours
