What To Expect

Head to Mexico City’s most visited museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, also part of Chapultepec Park. Follow your guide on a tour of some of the most impressive pre-Columbian and Mexican artifacts, including Olmec carved heads and the Aztec Stone of the Sun.

Then, experience one of Mexico City's most visited sites—Chapultepec Castle. Climb up a hill with your guide and reach the 18th-century castle.

Chapultepec started as a retreat for Aztec rulers before it was partially torn down and rebuilt into the palace of Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg. It then turned into the residence for Mexico’s presidents before most of the castle was converted into the National History Museum.

Follow your guide along marble staircases, peer into royal apartments, and admire the state carriages of Emperor Maximilian and Benito Juárez. Pass murals of battles painted by famous artists, including José Clemente Orozco and John O'Gorman, as well as the sword wielded by independence fighter José María Morelos.

As you explore the 12 halls, learn about the country’s history, from the pre-Columbian period through Spanish colonialism, to Mexico’s revolution and its independence.

Your tour ends in the afternoon so you have the rest of your day to enjoy at your leisure.

Alexa is a phenomenal guide. So knowledgeable and the info she shared gave us insight on how the history interrelated with current events. Highly recommend this tour, and Alexa went the extra mile in taking us through the incredible art and influence of Mexican muralists.

Tour took twice as long as it should have
sray1210, May 2023
We booked a mono-lingual tour of the Museum of Anthropology & Chapultepec Castle, but when we arrived the guide announced it would be bi-lingual. My guess it was a last minute decision by the tour operator to accommodate more people. As a result, our guide had to say everything twice, and the tour ended up feeling rushed and took almost double the time it should have. We were given half an hour for lunch after the museum and before the castle, which was unworkable given the group size and the crowd at the park, and then our guide ended up disappearing for an additional 20-30 minutes. The poor guy had to run all the way over to Chapultepec to pick up tickets for the people that had been added at the last minute and then back to where we were having lunch. Our group was about to disband when he finally returned. Once inside the castle we ended up feeling tired and left the rest of the tour. We could only pick up about 60% of what our guide was saying at the museum and castle. I don't fault the guide, he was very polite and cheerful and tried to keep things moving along as best he could. But I'd opt for a more organized mono-lingual tour next time. Having said that, I do recommend a guided tour to get the most out of these spaces. Amigo Tours can probably provide that, but I'd check to confirm you get the type of tour that you want.

Maria_M, Apr 2023
We had a great time with Christian! He was so kind & generous with his knowledge across so many parts of our rich culture. Given the limited time to walk through so much, we felt more than satisfied from the areas we did cover and si glad we decided to take this tour. Now we’re looking forward to a return visit to continue exploring what we didn’t have time to visit together.
Response from Host, Apr 2023

Not worth it.
Tessa_P, Mar 2023
Not worth the cost. I would have preferred to do this on my own. It would have saved more time if tickets were collected beforehand so we didn’t have to wait for our guide to stand in line and get us tickets.

Impatient guide - do not recommend
rozzieka, Feb 2023
TLDR: Our guide was impatient with us the entire tour. I would NOT recommend this tour. Our tour went from 8:50-12:50 - much shorter than promised on the product page. Our guide was late to the meeting point, and after he got here, he was chatting with the other guides, standing away from the meeting point, pretending that he didn't see us. During the tour, he seemed impatient, not happy with the group and even got annoyed that people were reading the english explanation on the wall, calling it "a waste of time". He never signals the group to follow him when he went into a different hall, didn't stop and wait for people's restroom breaks. The tour was rushed and unpleasant, especially comparing to some other tours we went on in CDMX.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Dear rozzieka We deeply regret that this experience was unpleasant for you, thanks for letting us know your feedback, we will absolutely keep it in mind to improve our services. Mariana, Amigo tours
Castle Up High and the Views Incredible
Joyce_P, Feb 2023
There is a lot of walking uphill to get to the main entrance but it is really worth the effort. Take it slow and steady. When you get to the top of the hill, you have entered a real castle like magical place. The building decor and architecture is amazing and so well preserved. The furnishing are beautifully set room by room to peak and see how these folks lived. The grounds make for some fine photo settings. I stayed about two hours and only left because I was exhausted. But one could stay a lot longer and just enjoy the views of the city from so many angles. Do it!
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Dear Joyce_P, we are very glad to know you had a magical experience on this iconic tour, thank you for your comments, looking forward to having you again! Ivana, Amigo Tours
Beware! A scam by Viator / Amigos Tours
Deborah_H, Feb 2023
I regret to say that this private tour was very disappointing. Our guide, Miriam, spoke English that was incomprehensible - she did not make it easier to understand the vast museum. My husband is very polite and did not want to say anything. This was US $130 wasted. We would have been better off buying entrance tickets to the Museum of Anthropology and the Castle for a few pesos and touring on our own. BEWARE!!
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Dear Deborah_H This is the first time that we have had a bad review from Miriam, we can even say that she is one of our best tour guides. In any case, we will speak to her to investigate what happened. Thanks for taking the time to post your review. Mariana, Amigo tours
Amazing cultural experience, not to miss.

Response from Host, Jan 2023
