What To Expect

Your tour begins through Monument Valley's natural attractions.

With your guide, make your first stop at John Ford's Point, where some of John Wayne's western movies were filmed, as well as 'Transformers: Age of Extinction.' Then head into the backcountry area of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park to see the Sun's Eye Arch. Standing here at a specific degree, you can look into the rock arch to find out how it got its name. Also at this location, check out petroglyphs from the Anasazi people and listen to stories from your guide.

Then continue to the Big Hogan, another natural feature that's a favorite photo op site, before stopping at your last backcountry attraction, the Ear of the Wind, the largest arch in the park.

Next, head to the Totem Pole for more photo ops and to hear about their cultural histories, and then visit the North Window, where you can admire the Mitten Butte from a different perspective. Your tour then ends with return to your departure point.

Please note: Guides are locals who have been praised for their storytelling skills and are first aid- and CPR-certified. Water is available but it's recommended that you bring your own snacks and other necessities.

The tour was very comprehensive. I loved hearing the history of the Navajos. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and he played the flute for us -- it was so beautiful. I was with my three grandkids and they all totally enjoyed the tour.

Guide john was great. Very knowledgable. It wasnt really a jeep tour as advertized but it was cold and looked like rain so we didnt mind the van. Our guide took us to some spiritual sites and played beautiful music with a flute like instrument and drum. All round nice experience.

Michael_C, Nov 2022
Our guide Lee gave my brother and I alot of attention since we were the only visitors on this tour. We thought we were taking this tour in an open vehicle, but it was too cold, so we took a van instead. Lee also gave my brother some tips on taking photos, which we never expected!
Excellent, memorable tour!
Paul_M, Nov 2022

John was the best tour guide! Clan before plan!
Saydie_Q, Nov 2022
It was so much fun. We had the best tour guide, John. Not only was he exceptionally knowledgeable, he had a fantastic sense of humor. He made the tour so much fun. John went out of his way to make sure that everyone had their phones in the correct settings, and he watched for unique photo opportunities for us. I posted the pics that he helped us with. He stopped on the side of the road because he spotted a puddle that gave a beautiful reflection of the landscape. We learned a lot about the Navajo culture.
Our Navajo guide, John,...
Kelly_B, Oct 2022
Our Navajo guide, John, was simply amazing. Educated us on so many parts of the Indian culture and traditions and played his flute for us at Sun's Eye Arch....brought me to tears.
Wonderful experience
Layne_S, Oct 2022
John (tour guide) brought the experience to life. He was an amazing combination of cultural anthropologist, geologist, and photography instructor. As a Navajo, he gave us an insider's view of the people who inhabited this land. The scenery is spectacular, and the context John provided made it and incredible experience. The guided tours visit places you can't go on your own. Well worth it!
