What To Expect

Begin your tour in the morning at the Radius Tours Office and make your way with the group to the train, heading to Salzburg, Austria. where you’ll meet your guide and board a train for the scenic ride to Salzburg. As you ride, enjoy the marvel of the German rail system, renowned for immaculate service and equipment.

You’ll arrive in Salzburg by mid-morning, and your introduction begins with a walking tour. With your city map in hand, follow your guide for a stroll through this UNESCO-listed city. Admire baroque-era architecture and visit castles, churches, monasteries, gorgeous piazzas and more. Ask questions and snap photos along the way.

After your guided tour, break off from the group for a few hours of independent exploring. Plot your trip through the preserved medieval town, wandering along picturesque lanes to see sites like Domkirche Cathedral, the magnificent Festung Hohensalzburg, and Mirabell Garden and Palace, the setting for the classic ‘Do-Re-Mi’ scene from The Sound of Music (admission not included). You’ll have plenty of time to sightsee, souvenir shop and explore local boutiques and eateries.

At the end of your Salzburg walking tour, head to the train station for the return ride to Radius Tours Office and make your way with the group to the train, heading to Salzburg, Austria. You’ll arrive back at the departure point in the evening.

This was an unexpected bonus to our trip to Munich. So happy we saw this tour and took advantage of it. Salzburg has to be one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Our guide Suzette was so knowledgable and pointed out sites and things we would never have known about if we wandered around alone. Loved her and the tour.

We had an awesome day traveling from Munich to Salzburg. Elisabeth, our guide was magical as she maneuvered 24 adults from the subway to the train station on the train to Salzburg. She is so fun, friendly, organized, flexible, and kept us all safe . She is very experienced and was a wealth of information and stories. We had some “on our own time “and she gave us many good ideas of places to see and restaurants to visit . Because of Elisabeth our day was stress free and very enjoyable.

Maxine was a perfect host! She really brought Salzburg to life. She showed us clips of Sound of Music for every area related to the movie. I feel like I watched the video yesterday (and maybe I will today.. I highly recommend Viator and have never been disappointed with my tours.

Worst tour Munich to Salzburg

Way too much standing, guide was focused on everything Sound of Music showing us ipad screen videos and photos constantly from the movie and long discussions about Mozarts sister. This was supposed to be a sight seeing trip and all we saw were a subway, train, 2 bus rides, standing in hot sun and the gardens where we couldn’t even stay that long. Tour started at 9 am and we couldn’t stop for lunch till 1:45. We were able to just have enough time on our own to see the fortress. This was supposed to be a small group, 22 people is not my idea of small group. This was The worst tour we have ever taken!!

For that we deeply apologize as that is not the quality we stand for. For the group size this tour has a capacity of no more than 25 people which is listed on the Salzburg tour info.

Beautiful Salzburg

Lucia was very enthusiastic from the start. Sadly the trains were an issue at both ends of the day but Lucia managed to get us to the station both times in good time and we all sat close together as a group. Lucia explained about the plan for the day, gave a little talk about Salzburg and the links to Mozart and the Sound of Music before journey started. The walking tour was very informative and Lucia was full of fun. We went our separated ways , retracing where we wanted to see more of but also places that Lucia suggested we go too on our own. It was a long day but we enjoyed her company and the other group members who were from lots of different countries. I would recommend this tour if you have an extra day or too to explore outside of Munich.

Lovely day in Salzburg. Our guide Carlotta was fun , organized and provided clear direction. We enjoyed lunch in the world’s oldest restaurant (ST Peters),road the funicular up to the fortress and grabbed coffee and cake at the famous Sacher Cafe.

Our tour guide, Maxine, was amazing! So much knowledge of the history that was interspersed with pop culture references and humour. She gave us all an extra hour of free time in Salzburg, made recommendations of where to visit, helped us find all the Sound of Music spots, and even proactively booked tables at a great restaurant. This tour is great because there is a short walking tour, but then it’s 3-4 hours of exploring the Old Town on your own!

We had a great time in Salzburg. After our excellent guide Maxine pointed out some great Sound of Music sites.... we still had three free hours to explore by ourselves. That was more than enough time to walk around and have lunch. Salzburg's tourist area is easy to navigate and I did not feel rushed at all. Thanks, Maxine.
