What To Expect

After morning pickup from locations in central Naples, relax during the scenic drive to Pompeii.

Begin with a walking tour of the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, stopping to see the thermal baths, racy paintings in the Lupanare, the Basilica, Macellum (market square), and the formerly opulent residence known as the House of Faun. Your guide shares informative commentary about life in old Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

After your time at the ruins, enjoy a delicious pizza lunch or wine tasting (option selected at checkout). Next up, rejoin your driver and travel up Mt. Vesuvius to 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). Disembark there and follow your guide up a winding path that leads to the top of the volcano (this is a moderately challenging walk). Peer into the volcano crater and learn about the geology of the volcano from a volcanologist guide.

Please note that the admission fees at both sites are at your own expense.

Your tour ends with return to your starting point in Naples in the late afternoon.

Climb to volcanic crate is not easy but worth a try.

At Vesuvius it was beautiful but beware it is a strenuous hike but worth the view!

It was an excellent tour, with a very reasonable price.

Disappointing experience

This tour is poorly organised, we begun by being whisked to a basement at Pompeii where sales people begun trying to sell jewellery, statues and rocks. Nobody knew what was happening. The host of the pompeii ruins tour was fantastic and informative but the company tour guide was unorganised and confused. Finally, due snow Mt.V was closed (which is fine, you can’t help the weather) the operators ensured that we would receive a refund for the tickets. We agreed to this but when the time came to get the refund 1/2 of the agreed amount was issued to my account and customer service refused to do anything to help. I would skip going to a tour company at all and just find yourself a guide somewhere else.

Unfortunately Vesuvius was closed due to snow so we were refunded for that bit, however, the Pompeii tour with Hanna was great and Walter, our guide, was very accomodating throughout. The restaurant was great too!

This tour was great! We had a super knowledgable guide who took us through Pompeii for a few hours and really brought the history to life. It was great learning about the history of Pompeii and seeing all the sights. We weren't able to go to Mt. Vesuvius due to the weather, but the tour of Pompeii was enough to make this a spectacular tour. The pizza lunch was also really good and had a wonderful look out over Naples and of Mt. Vesuvius.

The trip in it's entirety was so great! We were met at our meeting spot, which was such an easy and convenient location, earlier than the meeting time by Giovanni and he was so pleasurable and funny. Everyone was on time and Generro, our driver, was such an experienced driver and made our trek to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius safe and quick. Our local guide at the ruins was Rafaello and he was so knowledgeable and funny and so quick to show us the highlights of what Pompeii has to offer. Unfortunately, the rain was torrential on this day so we were unable to hike Mt. Vesuvius but Giovanni was quick to let us know that we would be refunded for that portion of the tour and Viator immediately sent us the refund confirmation. We ended our tour with a wonderful lunch with yummy pizza and beer and a yummy dessert! Great trip overall! 👍

please read before booking!!!! literally the worst tour on we’ve ever been on and maybe earth. do not recommend at all!!! was so rushed and all over the place, left us in tears as we’ve waited years and traveled halfway across the world to see these things. tour guide at pompeii was rude and rushed and spoke very broken english so we had major difficulty understanding him. he also was handing out dirty used headphones (covered in someone elses earwax) but insisted they were clean. we missed out on seeing about 80% of the important things at pompeii. pizza lunch was soggy and rushed (got given 5 minutes to eat it after food finally came out) payed for a wine tasting, which we didn’t get, it got canceled and no one said anything until we complained about it. quickly went to use the loo after lunch and the tour guide practically followed me into the bathroom telling me to hurry, my partner had to stop him in the hallway. squished everyone on the minivan to mount vesuvius where half the seatbelts didn’t work. asked for a refund as it was the worst tour we’ve ever been on and spent majority of the evening crying about it. was given a 10% refund which i don’t think was acceptable as this completely ruined naples for us and was quite expensive

It was an excellent trip all round! Pompeii is an amazing site to appreciate the brilliance of the Romans over 2000 years ago and the tremendous power of Mother Earth as Mt. Vesuvius engulfed and preserved an entire city! Our guide Theresa was knowledgeable and patient in explaining several details. The trek up Mt.Vesuvius is a bit of a hike but we’ll worth it. Finally, our tour guide Gabriel was a ball of good energy, keeping the full “team” motivated throughout the trip! It was hard to believe he was a Maradona/Messi/Argentina fan as he never once mentioned it!😂

I booked this trip solo and joined a small mixed group. It was great. For anyone considering the VIP group, I highly recommend it. It was so nice to be in a small group. Mario, our driver was great and our Pompeii tour guide was awesome. The hike up Mt Vesuvius is a little challenging but it will be worth it, I promise. All in all I highly recommend this tour!

No customer service from Viator - so good luck when you are on your vacation!

Viator did nothing to reassure me that I would be picked up for this tour. I contacted the operator and they confirmed that I had canceled this tour - NOT TRUE. Repeated emails to Viator, had no response other than contact the tour operator. I'm in a foreign country and am told to reconfirm with the local tour operator. Finally when I contacted them, they told me that my tour was canceled - which was not true at all, as all of the tours I booked were already paid for before I left home. Great offering of tours, but no customer service or proper communications between tour operator and Viator. Will not be booking anything with Viator again (even though the other tours went well).

Arianna and our driver from world tours were both very nice and helpful. Our pick up was on time and easy. We had a different tour guide at Pompeii who was awesome, I wish I could remember his name. He was funny and informative and our tour was intimate. I highly suggest paying more for being in a smaller group. I felt like we had ample time at Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. Our pizza lunch was great and had a glass of wine too. The people who chose the wine tasting option also had some appetizers and pasta. So if youre choosing wine tasting don’t worry you’ll get food too. We had a good amount of time to walk up Mount Vesuvius and take pics from the top, also had a Aperol Spritz up there. Overall great trip

This tour was of waste of money. We sat on a bus for 2 hours waiting for a tour guide. This put us behind schedule. Pompeii and the volcano portion of trip was extremely rushed. We opted for wine tasting for lunch and no one came to our table to explain the wines. Tour guide said we could be in and out for lunch in under an hour. I have never been so disappointed in getting no value for the over $300 dollars we spent on this tour. I hope to see a refund as tour of Pompeii was lacking and wine tasting was not what it should have been.j

It’s a long trip for sure. Our guide Rita was fun and fabulous. I give her 5 stars. At Pompeii our guide was knowledgeable and made the trip fun. Almost a little too in depth, but manageable. Next we went Vesuvius, our tour van not the case. Clutch was burning out, truck never should have been on the road. Unsafe. Our driver managed to limp in first gear 90% of the way up before we had to stop and get out, walking the rest of the way up. Rita kept the positivity up and kept us in good spirits. The climb to the top is no joke people. Make sure you wear sensible shoes. It’s a long walk up a rough volcanic dirt/gravel path. But the top is amazing. After the long climb and decent, we stopped for pizza at a nice stop. I guess I expected more of a buffet, but it was individual service with our own 14” or so pizzas. They were good for local standards. Rita was kind enough to arrange for us to be dropped off near the shopping district vs our pick up location. Like I said, Rita 5 stars. Our Pompeii guide 4.5 stars. Driver 4 stars, Van 1 star.

Great tour experience. Our tour guide, the assistant tour guide and our bus driver were wonderful. It was a full day. Our guide for Pompeii was knowledgeable and entertaining. Mount Vesuvius was uneventful but if you're going to see Pompeii, you really should see Mount Vesuvius. You don't have to be an athlete to walk it but you can't be a couch potatoe either. Lunch was great and a bonus stop on the way back at one of Italy's winerys for some tastings. Great time, highly recommend this tour.

Both sites were amazing and would recommend it. The reason for the average score is due to the guides. The guide that meant us at the terminal did not seem to be organized. The guide in Pompeii was ok. The driver - if you are one to get easily car sick you may want to reconsider going to Mount Vesuvius - the drive was fast and scary.
